On the subject of crossing the solid white line to get past a queue of traffic, I asked this exact question on a Bikesafe course with Cumbria police. Their answer was, if a vehicle in that queue moves when you are passing it, then you have broken the law. Given it's very hard to tell when the queue will move, you are taking a huge chance. Also, solid white lines are there for a reason, you might me driving without due care and attention even if no vehicle moves. On a brighter note, me and two mates were going to the touring cars at Knockhill. Traffic queued for miles and we were carefully picking our way through it on the bikes. We were sitting in the traffic on a double white line section, when a police bike pulled beside us. He shouted over, "follow me lads" and led us all the way to the gate, ignoring all the solid white lines. Top fella, lol.
My Mrs got lit up by an unmarked car a couple of years back in the late evening (dark out) She was uncertain and couldn't really tell what the coppers were wearing so decided to drive to our nearest police station. She carried on driving obeying the usual laws and when she got to the station she spoke to the cops and they said what she had done was the right thing. If you feel uncertain/unsafe, drive to the nearest police station.
Have to give credit where credit is due these videos are excellent. White Dalton helped me awhile back win my case on an RTC. Got me back riding and selling bikes at a main dealer. Very thankful excellent service and advice from REAL BIKERS! ❤
When I was about 14, my mates and I were hanging around the local rec and there was a burned out van in the car park. For idiotic and unknown reasons we took it upon ourselves to try and kick the back door off (it was already hanging off). A police car came around the corner and we sh*t ourselves a bit. He came to a stop and said “Is that yours?”. We were a bit confused but said no. He replied “Well leave it alone then” and drove off. And we did leave it alone. Perfect policing!
Constable in uniform - constitutes anything that identifies them as a police officer. They don’t have to be in full uniform, a cap or body armour will do. It’s been tested in court before.
Interesting, I’ve just watched a driving instructors channel saying you are fine to flash a driver sitting in lane 2, as long as it’s just to let them know you’re there.
Good one guys, especially the 'POLITE' vest comments. I live in Germany and for some reason I find that German drivers can't recognise normal 'yellow' vests for some reason. After acquiring a Polite vest with the blue/silver stripe I have had zero problems of people cutting me up or driving/stopping within 2mtr's of my rear Nr plate. Dutch Motorcycle Politie even bought me a coffee at a petrol station as a thank you for spreading the 'Think Bike' message.
Great video chaps👍🏻 just on undertaking. On a speed awareness course they said we could but only for slow moving traffic. SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC: If the traffic in your lane is moving faster than the traffic in the lane to your right, you can undertake to keep up with the traffic in your lane.
Think I am totally safe from any speeding fines. Round here royal mail delivery mail to us ONLY when a parcel or signed for package is sent. So most times we go 2 to 3 weeks before we get any post and it's normally attached to package with rubber bands. If the police send any NIPs out they better send them recorded post or they won't make it in 14 days.
Gav, bus lanes in London have solid outer white lines. Buses, taxis, bicycles and motorcycles are all allowed to use the bus lanes. Going by your info, unless I merge into the lane at the start, I can't leave or move in unless because of one of your points you made. That is some confusing BS! They certainly didn't teach that at my riding school when getting my licence.
Covered in the video. It’s about when it is sent, with plenty of time for you to receive it within 14 days. Whether you are in, out or on holiday, that’s all that matters.
Many years ago stopped on M1 sat in back of police car with helmet on copper didn't ask me to take helmet off but started taking notes on what he could see through my visor
Some good coppers about, more and more bad ones. Had an undercover turn up a week after I'd overtaken him doing well over the limit, complimented the car and said not to do it again. Had another copper pull me over and tell me off for going 33 in a 30 at 11pm on empty roads. One copper pulled me and told me off for being brake checked because I'd caught a car up going slow in the right lane.
Emergency response drivers are not permitted to panic people into breaking the law eg running a red light to get out the way. See ‘blue light aware’ video for what they want from the public.
Great video, very informative!. Q. A "friend" once told me, that if you run from the police and they do not catch you at the time & or within 30 minutes committing the supposed offence that initiated the chase, then there is nothing that they do. I want to call BS, but just want to be sure first. Thanks Sean
Solid white lines . When the TT mountain is one way the solid whites still apply so - get this - if you follow the racing line at Windy Corner you will cross the sold white from offside to nearside and commit an offence according to IOM Old Bill.
That was entertaining. What would have been interesting is if you’d covered circumstances of duress in regards to speeding etc. Not many people are aware of that one. 👍
M40 may not have fixed cameras but rest assured on the bridges above there have been plenty of police cars and vans parked up with mobile camera’s. Be warned 😁
Couple of quick anecdotes for this topic. In my late 30s I was riding a ratty winter bike and got pulled for no reason by over zealous young coppers (both in their 20s). They were giving me the third degree in a rather brash manner and calling me son. Keeping my cool and in my best posh middle class accent, and calling them officer this and that, I took off my helmet. One look and it was sir this and sir that from them. 😁 Recently got an upright bike with a bike fairing in white. Not remotely police like but noticed the cars sitting in lane 2 on the dual carriageway move right over when they see me coming up behind them in their mirrors.😂
With regards to notices, what happens if you happen to go on holiday and are not home? Can they say that you “received” the NIP within 14 days and it’s your problem that you couldn’t respond to it.
I think Gav missed mentioning horses when discussing crossing a solid white line, (cut and pasted from the Highway Code): ‘Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.’ Who knew?
The stationary vehicle is very interesting. There's a section of solid line near me that is often standstill at rush hour and I've never been sure about overtaking. I know it's probably a grey area, but according to that it's ok to filter past the cars as long as they are at a standstill.
@@noggintubeI agree but it would be a brave person that used that as a defence. If the car(s) was/were actually parked though it’s definitely fair game
This was asked at a BikeSafe course I attended. Coppers aswer was that if you do it slowly, treat it like just overtaking one at a time, he wouldn't have an issue with it. Although he did point out that some of his collegues are not as understanding...
With regards to asking to take off a helmet, asking for name and address, asking anything... There is a difference between police being allowed to ask a question and a person being legally required to answer. They can ask whatever they want right? But what are people legally required to answer/do?
Question about solid whites. I've been told that if both the lanes are in the same direction e.g. in the tunnels on the A12, they're only enforceable if sanctioned by, I think it was the Home Office. You're unlikely to know which are and aren't though!

With a helmet and ear plugs I wouldn’t be able to hear plod ask for my name and address. 😃. Serious question though…. You mentioned that in a car there is no requirement to wind your window all the way down, do you have to open the window at all? In the case where you suspect that the people might not be police at all. As for the POLITE vest what a ⚓️ they must be constantly stuck behind traffic driving at least 5 mph below the speed limit and can’t overtake without breaking the law. 🤣. Cheers for the video.
My rules are don’t do anything they aren’t legally allowed to do. If they have the power to rip off your helmet they will, if they don’t they won’t. But they very well will tell you they have the power to, even when they don’t. Force them to do it, then when you get legal advice you may have an assault case.
I could never tell if someone sitting in a car was a constable in uniform so that suggests there's no legal requirement for me to stop. What about when it's dark ?
I was pulled over by an unmarked police car. They said i was doing over the speed limit (60 single carriage way) but didn't show me any recorded speed. Then she asked me to remove my helmet. I received £100 fine and 3 points. Was this legal since she didn't show me the speed? They pulled out behind me and I clocked them straight away so there was no way of recording and speed apart from me doing the limit for 2+ miles.
The LC8c parallel twin? Yes... Kinda. KTM are being very, very vague on the issue, but a couple of independent tests have pointed to low oil pressure to the head, one of which was found to be down to badly aligned cross drilling of the oil passages.
Question for any follow up video - Im aware that the police are now using joe publics dash cams to prosecute other riders/drivers. Can you be done for speeding from a civilian dashcam? Or would they just stick you on for reckless/careless?.... Asking for a friend (cough)....
I don’t think the 14 days for speeding doesn’t count if it’s you’re a complete tool and they deem it to be dangerous driving, especially for those that upload videos with local road signs. What if the solid white lines are worn and look broken ? Also Al’s mate probably went through a stop line at the red lights
On solid white lines .. is it ok to overtake a slower moving vehicle whilst not crossing the solid white line if there is adequate room to do so ie staying within your lane and solid white line Cheers
2 cops on RT pulled me up yesterday said i overtook on solid white 1km back ,i said no i didnt it was broken line one car , he said it 100€ if you pay within 2 weeks or 200€ , i had no proof i hadnt he got no proof i had but there was 2 of them ( 3rd time been stopped in 10 days, first time with my son he got 100€ fine missing reflector ( i think there collecting for Christmas bonus figures) just love Spain
Has anyone known of anyone getting a speeding ticket in an average speed camera stretch of road? Like the M1 at this moment in time? “A friend of mine” went north up the M1 from derby to M18 at speed a couple of weeks ago and hasn’t heard a thing?
I got an NIP for speeding on the M27. I was on my old Hayabusa allegedly doing about 170 mph, then realised I was in an average speed camera section, and roadworks, so the limit was 50 mph. Once I realised that I slowed down to a crawl, it was about 11:30pm and there was no road workers and no traffic. After leaving the average speed camera section I thought I’d slowed down enough and rode long enough at that speed to even it out. Wrong. I got a NIP with a photo of me and the speed they nicked me for, was 90 mph in a 50 mph zone. Went to court, gave some ‘mitigating circumstances’, which may or may not have been true, and got a 3 week ban and a fine and costs of £320 😂
@ “my friend” was coming back from a weekend riding in wales and was getting annoyed with all the idiots who can use a motorway so he was under taking and speeding to get around the nuggets who didn’t know how to move to there empty lane to there left, it’s been more than 14days so I’m sure he’ll be fine now
When you’ve been stopped for speeding; PLOD: “How fast were you going?” SPEEDER: “No comment” The moment you admit you were speeding, they’ve got you. They might not have even clocked your speed, if they didn’t follow you for long enough or their equipment wasn’t working. So by admitting your speed, they can do you. If you say no comment when asked, they can charge you for ‘Excessive Speed’. They don’t have to give any speed at all, they just need to say you were travelling at ‘Excessive Speed’ and you can be prosecuted.
But you telling them doesn't count. Once they have decided to book you for something they will ask you if you wish to say anything, at which point they will note your response.
Exactly this, and that why the best advice is, if ever arrested or pulled up, is to not say another word to the police at all except to confirm your identity. “No comment, thank you, Sir”
@@andyreynolds6194 Not true at all. The best thing to do is actually be compliant and polite. You don't have to give them the specifics (your eyes should ideally be on the road anyway) as everything is on camera these days. And if they're pulling you with the intention of booking you FOR ANYTHING, they'll have almost all the evidence they need. The police are human too, so while some might be proper jobsworths, some would rather drill it into you that they would rather be preventing crimes, than informing your family you've wrapped yourself around a tree. This whole "Say nothing" is utter shite unless you're being questioned in an interview room, in which case you definitely want a solicitor - innocent or not. A roadside pull is a very different situation to being questioned over a murder.
Many moons ago, I bought a Vectra GSi. It was my first fast (ish) motor and I had just pulled out of the petrol station onto a 40 mph dual carriageway. A black 5 series sat up my arse, so naturally, I dropped a gear and thought let's have it. After about 30 seconds as it was only a short distance to the next roundabout, blue lights came on and he stopped me in a lay-by just before the roundabout. After a massive bollocking, he said it was my lucky day because they have to have at least a mile of footage for it to stand up in court, and that section of road was just under a mile. I've Googled it since, and can't find anything relating to the '1 mile rule' however.
A solicitor is there to give you advice and to inform you of your rights. The courts decide if you are guilty of any charges levelled at you. And they sometimes pass some funny verdicts...

No, absolutely not. If the Police were considering reporting you for a moving traffic offence they may well in those circumstances seize your footage to assist in their investigation. But remember the footage/evidence is on a SD card, therefore there is no necessity for them to seize your actual GoPro although they will no doubt try to do that as the default position. If this situation ever arises, offer them the SD card and politely inform them that the camera does not contain any data, everything is on the SD card.
@@mattstringer7838 If they are considering pursuing some action against you, then yes absolutely they can seize it as it will be part of their evidence gathering process. But I must emphasise that they cannot just take it to go on a fishing exercise to see if you have done anything you shouldn’t have. 👍
But, surely, re the 'undertaking' - all the cars in the offside lane are driving carelessly if they are in that lane and not overtaking ? Rule 137 Highway Code - cars should keep to left unless overtaking. Therefore, if you are within the speed limit and driving on the left but going faster than the cars ( boneheads) who are queuing in the right hand lane you are complying with HC - yes/no?
In this video isnt it a personal opinion you're giving of what constitutes a uniform? Has this been tested,is there case law defining what is a uniform? I'd worry that a something as little as a police peaked cap would constitute uniformed.
with all due respect: crossing red light is A SUICIDE and CRIMINAL becasue when you have red, someone has green and he/she expects the road to be empty. Yes, we all have to look everywhere but I believe that the worst offence on the road is crossing the red light.
Eh?? They talked about getting out of the way of an ambulance when you’re at a red light. Firstly this does not involve moving out aimlessly into traffic but also, the driver for whom the light is green has a responsibility to be aware of the lights and sirens of the ambulance and should at the same time be giving way.
Question though, I passed my full A2 license. For the next 2 years I had maximum 6 points. Then passed my full A test. Am I still on maximum 12 points or does this reduce to 6 again for 2 years?? I’ve asked traffic cops before and they were stumped!
@cxb8664 6 points for two years is only for your FIRST driving entitlement of any kind. So if you did your A2 or say car, it starts from then. Once you have your full A it'll be the standard 12 points.

KTM are being very, very vague on the issue, but a couple of independent tests have pointed to low oil pressure to the head, one of which was found to be down to badly aligned cross drilling of the oil passages.
What happens if your number plate 'falls off'. And you didn't know about it until you're pulled over or they turn up at your house?
Did the Ktm legal team also remove your Ktm video?
Question: Do Police have the power to pull over and speak to e-scooter users?
Answer: Yes
So why don’t they?
Question for any follow up video - Im aware that the police are now using joe publics dash cams to prosecute other riders/drivers. Can you be done for speeding from a civilian dashcam? Or would they just stick you on for reckless/careless?.... Asking for a friend (cough)....
I don’t think the 14 days for speeding doesn’t count if it’s you’re a complete tool and they deem it to be dangerous driving, especially for those that upload videos with local road signs.
What if the solid white lines are worn and look broken ?
Also Al’s mate probably went through a stop line at the red lights
On solid white lines .. is it ok to overtake a slower moving vehicle whilst not crossing the solid white line if there is adequate room to do so ie staying within your lane and solid white line
Cheers
2 cops on RT pulled me up yesterday said i overtook on solid white 1km back ,i said no i didnt it was broken line one car , he said it 100€ if you pay within 2 weeks or 200€ , i had no proof i hadnt he got no proof i had but there was 2 of them ( 3rd time been stopped in 10 days, first time with my son he got 100€ fine missing reflector
( i think there collecting for Christmas bonus figures) just love Spain
Is the 14 days equal to 14*24 hrs or until midnight on the 14th Day.

Has anyone known of anyone getting a speeding ticket in an average speed camera stretch of road? Like the M1 at this moment in time?
“A friend of mine” went north up the M1 from derby to M18 at speed a couple of weeks ago and hasn’t heard a thing?
@@robertholmes8795 I’ve seen them go off before. I wouldn’t chance it tbh unless you want to fuck around and find out
I got 1 but was sure I kept the average speed. 1 week later. They sent me another notice saying the speed ticked has been voided.
Went to court, gave some ‘mitigating circumstances’, which may or may not have been true, and got a 3 week ban and a fine and costs of £320 😂
Depends if the cameras face towards or away from you. Biker only have rear plates. If the camera faces you, drop a gear and disappear.
@ “my friend” was coming back from a weekend riding in wales and was getting annoyed with all the idiots who can use a motorway so he was under taking and speeding to get around the nuggets who didn’t know how to move to there empty lane to there left, it’s been more than 14days so I’m sure he’ll be fine now
When you’ve been stopped for speeding;
PLOD: “How fast were you going?”
SPEEDER: “No comment”
The moment you admit you were speeding, they’ve got you.
Even if you say I'm not sure, that means your not riding/driving with due care and attention? 🤔
Exactly this, and that why the best advice is, if ever arrested or pulled up, is to not say another word to the police at all except to confirm your identity. “No comment, thank you, Sir”

Not true at all.
If the bike is leased, and the NIP is sent to the lease company prior to being forwarded to the rider, does the 14 day period still apply?
As long as the lease company gets the NIP within 14 days it counts, it doesn’t matter how much longer it takes them to pass it on to you.
Cannot be trusted ...... none of them...... !!!
Under taking isn't illegal in the uk ...
For a lawyer he doesn't half add a lot of "I think' to the end of his statements...
A solicitor is there to give you advice and to inform you of your rights.
The courts decide if you are guilty of any charges levelled at you.
And they sometimes pass some funny verdicts...
What about speeding a front facing camera?
Even talking about law and regulations and boring shite(not really) Al drags it into the gutter top bloke 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇮🇲🇮🇲🇮🇲🇮🇲🇮🇲🇮🇲
my mrs got pulled not long back by the police... for incorrect insurance... maybe because she happened to be near me as i zoomed off into the sunrise... fortunately she has her documents at all times as he said her insurance doesnt include commuting. (the certificate did) Little did we know that its a 6 Point offence so definately check what you put as the bill is a wan*er
MID made a mistake with everyone on Suzuki Insurance. including alot of trade policies that week.
🤣
If I am wearing a Burka a copper can't force me to take it off to see my face, why would a helmet be any different... My religion is biker
Where in Somerset I live in Devon so where are u ????
? ... in zivil-clothes it is also allowed to "stop" you , they use "stop sign " , blue light's and show plaque with or without a gun in the hands
helmet off ➡️ yes for the biometric passport picture comparsion also move the glasses out of the face ( borderpolice done this at LHR airport )
@@grachoderunwiderstehlichen in plain clothes officers can request a vehicle to stop, however it is not a legal obligation to do so. Officer will usually get a marked car to make the 163 RTA stop (Ex-cop)
I got flashed 6 months ago hear3d nothing so they can't prosecute?
Do you have to hand over a go pro or similar if stopped ?
No, absolutely not.
If the Police were considering reporting you for a moving traffic offence they may well in those circumstances seize your footage to assist in their investigation. But remember the footage/evidence is on a SD card, therefore there is no necessity for them to seize your actual GoPro although they will no doubt try to do that as the default position. If this situation ever arises, offer them the SD card and politely inform them that the camera does not contain any data, everything is on the SD card.
@701Adventures so they can take the footage ie sd card ?
Do you need a nip for driving without due care and attention

Myth: The Police are useful competent professional individuals.
Nah who am I kidding, that’s never been a myth or true
Policing by consent, not any more.
They’re not police, they’re Government enforcers.
with all due respect: crossing red light is A SUICIDE and CRIMINAL becasue when you have red, someone has green and he/she expects the road to be empty.
You don’t need to remove the helmet. All you need is a hoodie (helps if you are not white too) and the police won’t touch you.
R1 will win BBB 🤌🏼🤌🏼
You know it 💪
Question though, I passed my full A2 license.
