When I watched ROTN in the theater, it was one of the best movies and experiences that I've ever had. Many people were laughing, cheering, and clapping for the Nerds, throughout the movie.
This was one of the movies we got for ship's TV when I was deployed to the Med on an aircraft carrier '83 - '84. Makes me feel 20 again to watch it 😆. Much preferred it to Midnight Express which was played a couple times a day for a week before we pulled into Istanbul... turned out no worries though, that port visit lasted maybe 12 hours before we had to pull out & head back to the eastern Med.

Also, Robert Carridine (Louis) decided to see how well he would blend in and sat in on (audited) some of the classes on campus in character.

The movie was inspired by a magazine article with the same title. It describes how the once high school losers/nerds are now leading the 80's high tech boom and becoming wealthy and leaving their former tormentors in the economic dust and now getting the hot chicks. The only thing the movie had in common with the article is the title. The magazine is the long defunct New West.
