Wayward Swordtooth is way popular in EDH, any card that let's you play more than one land a turn - Azusa, Oracle of Mul Daya, etc - has a high price, and Wayward Swordtooth will be no exception
Muldrotha establishes a very predictable and repetitive play pattern which is the exact opposite of what I personally look for in Singleton formats like Commander. But some people love that sort of thing and wouldn’t mind playing the exact same game card for card a thousand times in a row.
@@harrison1735 she does set up a repetitive play style....but it allows different strategies...my favorite is a mill deck I made using her...not the optimal power but a unique build that many take a few games to solve...but all her decks have the same weakness....her...kill Muldrotha a few times and she becomes to expensive to cast.
I feel like muldrotha suffers from yarok being very popular since all the sultai fanboys and girls can now chose between these two. If yarok would have been like the m20 kaalia (or just any other kinda shity commander) muldrotha would get even more players since she would be the only new sultai commander since the tarkhir block (please correct me if I'm wrong, but kadena, volrath and reyami (Well, he/she's just bad) doesn't count)
SeaDog75 it does but a 5 mana creature that you are hoping starts to close the game getting killed by a Shock or Cry of Carnarium is rough. It’s a sick card but 2 toughness is such a deal breaker.
You can maybe use cards like icon of ancestry to keep it from coming out as a 2/2. Because even though there’s tons of 3 damage and some 4 damage removals, it still has a much higher chance of surviving at 3/3
As cool as Growing Rites of Itlamoc is, I think the clear winner in terms of overall power and long-term value from that cycle is Search for Azcanta. If you have the color identity to run it, you honestly can't go wrong with it in EDH. Card selection is hugely important and the graveyard hate to shut down an Azacanta flip is a lot less common than creature destruction, not to mention the raw power of the card once its flipped. I've seen search cropping up in decks into CEDH power levels, and I have absolutely no doubt that the card will continue to climb in price in the years after rotation.
The level of value you can generate from an on-curve search is so good that it's even seeing play in legacy. Even if you don't lay it out turn 2, if you can protect it until the flip (which is certainly doable if you have the extra mana up for counters) you now have an extra blue mana to work with and a crazy long term card advantage engine. A flipped Azcanta is often enough to straight up end a control mirror match, and I've seen enough scoops to an azcanta flip on turn 3-4 to say that it might legitimately be the best card from the entire Ixalan block.
In terms of playability, you're 100% right. If people have the money, Azcanta is the clear choice. The only reason I didn't get any was dry stock, so I settled for Itlemoc. Doesn't have as high a ceiling, but they were worth peanuts so right now and in a few years it SHOULD pay off (unless we get a better remake of Cradle first lmao)
As of right now, they're 7.50 each pack fresh from card kingdom. Sure, that's 30 bucks for a playset but I would honestly be shocked if that price hadn't doubled within 5 years. I would STRONGLY suggest grabbing them if you can find a good price when they get offloaded during rotation in October. Enough standard decks are rocking them we'll see a big ol' pile hit the market at once, but prices WILL creep back up sooner rather than later.
Instead of buying the already expensive Rivals of Ixalan cards, buy Etali and World Shaper. From Ixalan Sunbird's Invocation and Vanquisher's Banner are good picks. M19 Detection Tower, Runic Armasaur and cheap Poison-Tip Archer, Satyr Enchanter and Open the Graves foils
Can confirm Jhoira is a powerful commander. I don't get to play it often cuz it's a little strong for my local group. Got weakened a lot by the Paradox Engine ban, but still hums along just without the explosive near-instant win Engine provided.
What do you think of Big Tef he is already like 22-24$ and has lost over half its value. He still seems a little play in UW control and midrange now I’m modern with SFM unbanned. Do you see him bottoming at like 15$ then starting to raise over time as supply dries up and the chance of a reprint is very very low
I honestly suggest buying teferi, it sees play in modern, legacy, and commander, it’s an extremely powerful card in those formats too. The fact that it costs 5 is why it only sees 1ofs and 2ofs, but so does JaceTMS, and look at that things price after 2/3 reprints (depending if you count FTV)!
I liked both Amonkhet and Ixalan but it really felt like they had boring mechanics. Funny how those blocks both have great cards and it seems didn't get opened much :)
Nicol bolas is not that great a card. I will probably buy 1 foil of him and done. He's a 4 cmc 4/4 that requires an unbelievable amount of mana to flip
Those commanders are precon brawl deck only cards, standard legal yes, you won't see them in booster packs. I just see them as the sets decks + the 2 planeswalker decks. PS I didn't win a single game with that knight deck
Yeah but equipment are generally bad while there are some really good equipment that you can use she won't be great in standard she won't be good in brawl and she won't be good in modern. In commander though someone can work a way in with something like the swords (feast and famine etc) and also that boros one that lets you search on equip but generally the issue is she's just hard to pull off cause you're required to run a good amount of equipment
LOL Guess I will be buying singles of these commanders. WOTC shouldn't make these Brawl exclusive or at least could have taken advantage of this weird 3 different types of booster idea via having these brawl commanders only appear in the premier/prestige, whatever they are calling packs, give more incentive to pay more for those over priced boosters:P

Considering the price tag on those boosters, though, it's still probably better to buy singles.
As much as I think Helm of the Host is a good pickup right now, I personally have problems with high cost equipment that equip for even more. I personally think the check lands (Dominaria/Ixalan) are forever going to be an awesome budget, yet efficient land set for commander decks across the format. Some of the check lands (looking at you, Sulfur Falls and Woodland Cemetery) are going for under $2!! These are perpetually good pickups!
Where is lyra? Better yet resplendent angel? Those are 1 ofs that are great in multiple decks. Resplendent only had the one printing. (Lyra set release and the special 2020, etc.)

But if tendershoot can make the list, resplendent should too. Lol Lyra is just that card everyone had sideboard hate for. I think for 5 mana she has great value in mtg years to come. She probably wont top 20 bucks but she is something to scoop low dollar bill wise and hold. Imo I forget 5 mana teferi. How the mighty have fallen. 60bucks to about 20. He should steady out to about 50 again.
I would pick up search for azcanta because as its rotating its dropping more, and the card has seen modern play and might again see play are its a toss up between it and narset in b/x control, just depends on your preference since they kinda do the same thing
I think a lot of historic and Legendary matters cards will go up in price, like the Weatherlight, the Legendary Sorceries, and the sagas will go up, too, like History of Benalia.
You just have to look at the price of Gaea's cradle to understand that Growing rites of itlimoc will easily be one of the top cards. Also as much as I love Zacama I have to admit due to the colors and cmc that I see muldrotha going higher than Zacama in the long term. Helm of the host is pretty fun and cool but I wouldn't put it number one. Wayward swordtooth is an auto include in most decks with green and definitely in all the lands matter decks. It should be much higher. Overall great list though.
Well I don't know about you, but I love playing treasure maps, twilight prophet and helm of the host in the same deck and watch the carnage. Also with the sun, of course. Toughness five is important.
No because teferi was huge only because he was heavily played in both standard and modern. However with rotation, modern starting to opt out of big teferi, and baby teferi available, it won't see a price hike.

I’ve been looking for a Twilight Prophet for my Markhov deck for a few weeks now :(. No stores or players in my area seem to have a copy for sale/trade.
I have a Muldrotha deck that I have absolutely dominated the local standard showdowns with. I've taken first place out of 20+ people almost every single time I enter. I'm gonna miss her in standard!
There's a few of these cards I was looking at and was like "how are they still so cheap?" Things like Helm of the Host just have this insanely high ceiling in EDH.
sweet list, though i'd wager muldrotha has the highest ceiling on it out of the one's you picked out (besides the legendary crucible). it's been floating in the top 10 commanders on edhrec for months now, and i don't think it sees any less play after rotation. i'd guess it's pushing $20 by year end. anybody have a foil for trade?
@@ToliG123 yeah I enjoy playing modern a lot ;p. Just kidding commander somehow isn't really for me because the games usually take forever and I can't really influence who wins in the end. I still like playing it sometimes but only on a really basic level.
Yea...he pretty much replaced him....he is the wall tribal commander...I still like doran as a "big butt" commander...plus acess to the best color...black.
Pretty sure wayward swordtooth is expensive because modern amulet titan players are thinking about playing it. Which sucks because I just want to build a casual experimental frenzy deck.
Because while they were in standard they were only used by commander players which probly means the demand will still come from edh after they rotate. while the supply will not rise cause there wont be anymore prints the number of commander players only increase. Now if u add ppl hoarding certain cards the number of supplies go down. So its all supply and demand from there on
Helm of the Hoist is busted as hell especially when you can make anon creature permanents, creatures and duplicate that amount. For example, if you can make all enchantment creatures, you can slap the helm in doubling season and go at it.
Azcanta was everywhere in Modern control until Narset showed up. Since I’m still hoping that some day they’ll ban that awful mistake Azcanta could maybe see a resurgence someday.
Only problem with investing this way is they have been reprinting alot of different cards in the new sets even cards that are standard legal rn have been reprinted in the new commander set, to me it seems like they are reprinting alot more and making more sets, which makes long term investments alot more dangerous.

Tendershoot was 1 toughness away from being worth playing in standard. It got swept up by too much haphazard removal

Muldrotha is the best generic sultai commander by far. Most of the other sultai options have very specific strategies.
Truth...but you have to make a deck that can work without her since the easiest way to beat a Muldrotha deck is to keep killing Muldrotha.

Arcades is an awesome commander, it is one of my favorite decks to play.
sweet list, though i'd wager muldrotha has the highest ceiling on it out of the one's you picked out (besides the legendary crucible). it's been floating in the top 10 commanders on edhrec for months now, and i don't think it sees any less play after rotation. i'd guess it's pushing $20 by year end. anybody have a foil for trade?

Bleistik No, not an effective way to make money. Unless you mean in mass quantities. Better idea is to just play MTGs best format ;)
Just play commander, that's the reasonable thing to do.
@@ToliG123 yeah I enjoy playing modern a lot ;p. Just kidding commander somehow isn't really for me because the games usually take forever and I can't really influence who wins in the end. I still like playing it sometimes but only on a really basic level.

Yea...he pretty much replaced him....he is the wall tribal commander...I still like doran as a "big butt" commander...plus acess to the best color...black.
I knew Helm would be #1. It enables so many broken combos, it's price is sure to go up.
Pretty sure wayward swordtooth is expensive because modern amulet titan players are thinking about playing it. Which sucks because I just want to build a casual experimental frenzy deck.

Why will the price increase after standard rotates? Commander already could use the cards so surely the price will drop
Because while they were in standard they were only used by commander players which probly means the demand will still come from edh after they rotate. while the supply will not rise cause there wont be anymore prints the number of commander players only increase. Now if u add ppl hoarding certain cards the number of supplies go down. So its all supply and demand from there on

Helm of the Hoist is busted as hell especially when you can make anon creature permanents, creatures and duplicate that amount. For example, if you can make all enchantment creatures, you can slap the helm in doubling season and go at it.

Search for azcanta is I think a bit better than growing rites, it's being played in a lot of control
Azcanta was everywhere in Modern control until Narset showed up. Since I’m still hoping that some day they’ll ban that awful mistake Azcanta could maybe see a resurgence someday.

Only problem with investing this way is they have been reprinting alot of different cards in the new sets even cards that are standard legal rn have been reprinted in the new commander set, to me it seems like they are reprinting alot more and making more sets, which makes long term investments alot more dangerous.
Do you have a single example of a medium to valuable card reprinted right after rotation?
