Sachs is right. We don't have to wait on the USA. With its countless monstrosities. The world has suffered in recent times more than enough by the USA (millions and millions of dead people, from Vietnam over Cambodja to Iraq and Afghanistan). It's more than time that we leave that country behind.

Could you be more specific - "this kind of thinking..." is rather vague

@@Tom.Livanos Sachs actually cares for people. That's what this Republican dick thinks is, "this kind of thinking." People like that don't realize that the only reason they have property rights is because of domestic government muscle. These same people who are more than happy to accept protections from government are the same people who, in everything else, want to abide by the law of the jungle. They want all of the good things a society provides without having to pay into that society in the form of taxes. It turns out the ones screaming that socialists are nothing more than leeches are most guilty of being the biggest leeches of all. If they want to live in a jungle, than fine, go live in a jungle but leave civilization to the civilized.

To place some time points on the record. Gerry M-cat posted her/his comment 11-12 months ago. I posted my reply 8-9 months ago. You, Silver Surfer, posted your subsequent reply 10-11 hours ago.
My view: I asked my question to Gerry M-cat in good faith. He/She is not compelled to reply of course but "This kind of thinking..." is vague. I do not consider it my place to explain Gerry's meaning. That is her/his responsibility in life. By the same token Gerry is conspicuous in her/his absence. We all have things to do in life of course; I am going by what I see here as I have no other choice. I have no evidence or argument to contest what you have said Silver Surfer.
As far as Jeffrey Sachs is concerned, I have seen him in other videos. I am inclined to agree with you Silver Surfer that he actually cares for people. He seems to me to see his fellow human beings as people rather than abstractions or part of a system. We are part of a system of course but Jeffrey Sachs does not go straight to that. He does not sideline the first and therefore more important point that we are actually people. We have needs (beginning with physiological needs) and aspirations and life circumstances and wishes and weaknesses and abilities and all the rest of it. In short each one of us is unique. Jeffrey Sachs has not lost sight of this fact. Then, sure, he goes on to express his analyses and perceptions on systems and the wider picture. In short he has not allowed his humanity to be sidelined by his analyses. I respect him for that.
Let me finish where I began: "This kind of thinking..." is vague.

Dear Jeffrey, I understand what you said. Your love of the world and equality in development in all nations. But Trump's thinking is America survive and win, all other countries have to suffer and control by US. A lot of people might not like you but I have high respect for your love and compassion to the world. Yes, why waste billions on arms and people are homeless on the streets. Jeffrey Sachs is a mouthpiece for the United Nations. The same United Nations that was responsible for the Cholera outbreak in Haiti, which killed thousands of Haitians.
The same UN which has been found sex trafficking minors.
The same UN which cannot be tried and held accountable for its crimes.
The same UN which forces its way into any country in the name of peace and order, while providing neither.
The same you UN which is so concerned about population control, that it promotes abortion and birth control predominantly in African and poverty-stricken countries.
The League of Nations, the predecessor of the UN, dismantled after a short time, as they were unable to stop countries from warring with each other, which was the purpose of the organization.
Some of the countries rebanded to form the United Nations a few years later, and yet we still continue to have waring going on., The Korean war, the Vietnam war, Desert Storm, and Iraq. Let's not forget that President Obama killed more civilians with drones than any other president,. It is apparent that the UN is unsuccessful in its endeavor.

This guy asks why does Saudi Arabia need to defend it self? Well does he want the US to keep doing it or not? Does he not know who Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Israel are?
He sounds like a little girl when he speaks. Maybe it's to help deflect his lack of thinking on the subject of defence.
$100 over ten years, of SA defence spending is nothing. It's just a standard upgrade. As their economy diversifies they can use their money in other investments but keeping yourself save and stable is the first duty of government.
