  • Today’s most urgent problems, from food security to global warming, are fundamentally global. They require nothing less than concerted, planet-wide action if we are to secure a long-term future. But humanity’s story has always been on a global scale. In his new book The Ages of Globalization, Jeffrey D. Sachs, renowned economist and expert on sustainable development, turns to world history to shed light on how we can meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
Sachs will take us through a series of seven distinct waves of technological and institutional change, from the original settling of the planet by early modern humans to today’s globalization. The dynamics of these past waves offer a fresh perspective on the ongoing processes taking place in our own time. Sachs emphasizes the need for new methods of international governance and cooperation to prevent conflicts and to achieve economic, social and environmental objectives aligned with sustainable development.

    Dr. Jeffrey Sachs
Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, Columbia University; Author, The Ages of Globalization: Geography, Technology, and Institutions

This is a very narrow western view of the history of globalisation in the east there were multicultural empires where different religions and ethnicities lived as one nation. This eastern view seemed very feminine and submissive to Herodotus and Greeks.

The orginal economic hitman. Bolivia, Poland, Russia, and Africa. How does someone who has been so wrong, so many times, get this much attention for expertise ? In theory, Trump should be consulted as an expert on coronavirus, if we use your template. Christ, quit wasting time.

hoping to learn something I was greatly disappointed in what Jeffrey Sachs sees as important understandings over time. Two key ideas after the first 21 minutes - he missed the importance of the Peacemaker - the message of the Peacemaker as a process for peace. basic concept - stop feeding the warriors - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually The second notion was his reference to the planet - without attaching the word HOME to it. I mention this as an educator who took the first photo of the earth from outer space into classrooms. This program - planet in every classroom identified a light in the hearts of students - when you attached the word home to te poster - a light goes on. You have to test it of course - do not take my word for it. but this was a major change in consciousness. Jeffrey has not yet experienced this.

going further into Jeffrey's mind we see him not using terms referencing our global mindedness. - words like holistic accounting processes including triple bottom line as a first step - he seems oblivious to TBL and most certainly he will be totally unaware of what Beyond TBL means. He may talk around the idea - but he has no awareness of it. So too a fact that most knowledgeable people make reference to when they try to explain world GDP - they first point out the OECD Report in 1993 where the front cover noted for the first time in history a graph that demonstrated that an increase in world GDP was not followed by an increase in jobs. they in fact crossed. Jobs decreased. World GDP Increased. This anomaly has made it necessary to change our economic modelling thinking - and he is not aware of it yet. It is interesting that his position at Columbia does not require him to pass any tests as to what he has been paying attention to. It is what we in Canada call GIGO. Garbage in Garbage out.
The UN Office of the Future is being designed to counter the observations that Mr Sachs is making and provide real solutions in real time - not the gibberish the Universities would have us believe.

in 1993 the notion of a Global Ethics was argued by the religions of the world. 44000 pages of information were presented, from which a 44-page summary was developed. and then from that summary, the following poem was created:

      Survival
A community of all beings, interdependent, respectful
Preserving Earth, the air, the water, and the soil
      Manifesting responsibility and individuality,
Understanding that failure to do so has consequences
Treating others as we wish to be treated
Committed to respect, dignity, and individuality
      Developing an aptitude for forgiveness
Learning from the past and renouncing hate
Narrowing the differences for world community
      Humankind is our family
      Practicing kindness, generosity, serving others
Honoring the children, the aged, the poor, the suffering
Equal among equals, sexual and moral
Putting behind us all forms of domination or abuse
Commitment to non-violence, justice, and peace
Achieving true social justice and economic order
      Speaking truthfully with compassion
Moving beyond greed for power, money, and consumption
The consciousness of individuals must change
      Before Earth can be changed
Discipline the mind by meditation, prayer, or positive thought
All are invited to share the experience of survival.

Jeffrey suggests we are hardwired to hate each other ignores the 100th monkey philosophy of Ken Keys Jr. and so many master teachers his perspectives are myopic at best and dangerous at worst.

an antidote is not the answer. it will be understanding what it is - a weak immune system - there will never be a vaccine - let's face it. But we can eliminate its effects by teaching people how to strengthen their immune system. we are examining some processes that we will give away that will combat the existance of the virus. face mask need not be talked about - it is in the philosophy. moving beyond do no harm - do good.
