There is something strangely admirable about the way these cartoons perfected the art of aggresively lore-dumping the entire premise of their show directly into a child's brain in under a minute.
All any discussion of war needs is a sick beat and some funny voices saying a clunky half-baked slogan and it’s got my interest. Probably how a certain funny voiced warlord got so many people to go to his massive parades/dance parties.
It took me 5 years to find this... I've had this on vhs and I had no idea what to search for. I serched like this: "80s cartoon two ships crashing frozen planet good vs evil robots transform with human pilots". I found noting untill today, my smile is from ear to ear
hmn sound like transformer to me - no wonder you can't find it , but i think robotix - description of there robot is more realistic than transformer robot men -- since ... look inrealistic term , so everyone here anyone realized that in transformer they just walking metal escaping from cybertron to here , no explanation - and this movies explain about that , nice.
Just so people know, Robotix was a construction kit line by Milton Bradley (subsidiary of Hasbro) in the same sort of toy as Meccano construction kits or Erector Sets and K'Nex. A short lived comic and cartoon were made to try and promote these sets. The comic was published by Marvel while Sunbow AND Marvel Productions produced the cartoon for the Super Saturday/Super Sunday/Super Week show, to promote this line with Jem, Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines and Inhumanoids, That's why they were able to recycle music pieces from G.I. Joe/Transformers and Inhumanoids as they were ALL by the same composers; Johnny Douglas and Robert Walsh and use the same Los Angeles based talent pool of actors for the characters. And YES four bars of the theme do sound like the song 'Ghostbusters' by Ray Parker Jr. It was a coincidence. The toys, cartoon and mini comic only lasted a year. The characters sadly did not appear like the construction kits, with the exception of Argus and there was no good vs. evil conflict. Just build the biggest motion toy that you can through multiple parts.
Josh Darnell OK then, but you see my point is that the majority of the characters didn't look like their cartoon counterparts. Venjurax for example was a space station kit or something like that.

Man, this takes me back!! Back in the 80`s during Transformers, GI Joe, GoBots, He-Man, Thundercats, Silverhawks, C.O.P.S, even the InHumanoids! This was a Golden Age of Cartoons.
Seems like we couldn't go a week without some sort of alien invasion back then. The younger generations owe us for taking up arms so they could live this peaceful lifestyle.
This is like (The Real) Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters, the latter which was done by Filmation and confused a lot of kids of my generation, making us think they were some sort of farm team to the much more movie like Ghostbusters cartoon.
I love how epic the mythologies and storylines were. Glad that the writers (and pretty much everyone else involved) took the creating of these cartoon seriously and didn't settle for just making 30 minute toy commercials.
i see this as the pilot for another robot show/toy line that could make a cross over with transformers both shows have the same narrator and deal with humans so its not a stretch but tossing that aside i do miss this level of cartoon entertainment and its done right short and sweet with some wiggle room for more

No movie, series, book, comics ever made me so afraid of my existing like this animated series, and the trauma stayed till today when I finaly had the courage to watch it again preparing to throw up again... I honestly wondered, where there any Terrorkors who, Similar to Drift, Jetfire, or Knockout who defected to the Autobots in transformers, like some Terrakors decided to join the Protectons, if the show went on longer, this concept would possibly been done here

Micheal Bell has done a immense amount of stuff. I don't know if you play games, but he does VOs for them too. Famously known for Raziel from Soul Reaver.
Actually, this is a lot like Rebirth / Headmasters in Transformers. And somehow Tyrannix sounds like Galvatron and Starscream combined. And the chubby guy is pretty much what I imagine Ironhide looking like as a human.
I absolutely loved this cartoon and toys as an 80s kid! Didn't get to watch the cartoon much as a kid have no idea what time it came on or channel, we didn't have cable back then just the 3 channels and PBS :)

Sunbow/Marvel produced this show originally for their Super Saturday/Super Sunday line up, that also included Inhumanoids, Jem and Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines in 1985 and yes the purpose was to help sell more Hasbro toys.
I was given a robotix sticker when I was about 5, and was always intrigued by it but never knew where it came from. Mystery solved and most impressed, thanks for uploading!
I had the two big good guy robotic figures. They tended to break at the joints, but they were easy to fix. The wires were strong, the motors good and durable. The ratchet pieces sucked though.
Wow this is a great find. I don't think I've even seen the series but when I remember a VHS movie of Robotix I used to rent from time to time when I was a kid. This is even better than I remember!
Having some of the top 80s voices from back then absolutely made this cartoon stellar!! Having transformers, GI Joe and mask coming together this way was absolutely impeccable!
Loved watching this as a kid. Each Saturday morning was exciting when Robotix came on. I didn't even have the toys. The story premise was (is) really good. Even in 2022, it would be cool to redo this as a movie with modern computer animation, I think it would sell. The plot / idea is really good, and the direction this could go would be new and exciting.

Wow! What a throwback! I remember this being on TV and having a few of the toys aswell. They were great, and I used to use them for my Star Wars and Action Force figures too. Happy days 1985/86 :-)

I remember seeing the advert for Robotix back in the 80's. I went to the video store to buy it but they didn't have in stock. I remember being very disappointed. I never got the chance to see it...until today - nearly 40 years later...
I m 36...had it on vhs, the first thing dad bought me when we got our VCR back in 86-87...can't stop watching it....but I've always pondered on what happened to their families on earth.....they had to go back with argus and co i think....
I just saw this today. I have been a fan of transformers, voltron, and the lot for years, but never heard of this show. I was hooked within the first 5 minutes, and have been quite entertained. Imagine what they could have done with more time. I would have loved to see this flushed out, but it is pretty good even as it is. Even the names of the characters sound alien enough to be believable.
This show is 30 years old now, I used to watch it when I was 9 years old. Too bad they didn't make any new episodes. They had this cut down to under 10 minute parts because there were 2 other shows that came with it.

You said it James Best Jr.! I'm ecstatic I was an 80's kid! Our cartoons had innovation, uniqueness, and challenged a child's capacity of imagination. Quite advanced and ahead of their tome mant 80's cartoons were. Most of today's toons are brain dead, doofus, goofy humor, with poorly drawn animation. The VERY FEW good modern day cartoons get cancelled too quickly. So sad. :-(
I just watched this show the other day it brings back lot's of good memories of how good it was. Hasbro,Marvel,Sunbow productions and Toei animation were on top.It's too bad kids today don't get the same treatment I did growing up the 80s still rock.

I have Bront and his construction kit version looks pretty close to the cartoon version minus the pincer arms.

The dark atmosphere of this cartoon just draws you in. You just can't beat 80s cartoons.
Pretty sure these were made by an anime studio. I think Marvel only handled the storyboards.

The toys were cool. They had motors in the box and you could build stuff and the motors would make them move

I had the two big good guy robotic figures. They tended to break at the joints, but they were easy to fix. The wires were strong, the motors good and durable. The ratchet pieces sucked though.

Wow this is a great find. I don't think I've even seen the series but when I remember a VHS movie of Robotix I used to rent from time to time when I was a kid. This is even better than I remember!

Having some of the top 80s voices from back then absolutely made this cartoon stellar!! Having transformers, GI Joe and mask coming together this way was absolutely impeccable!
I remember this,it was based on motorized toys,to the point that you could build robots and have them move.

Loved watching this as a kid. Each Saturday morning was exciting when Robotix came on. I didn't even have the toys. The story premise was (is) really good. Even in 2022, it would be cool to redo this as a movie with modern computer animation, I think it would sell. The plot / idea is really good, and the direction this could go would be new and exciting.

Yeah, I remember trying to watch this cartoon through the static on channel 3 (we didn't have cable when I was a kid). I remember the snake with wheels, but could never, for the life of me, remember what this series was called. I'm excited to finally have an answer. Thanks for posting this.
Wow! What a throwback! I remember this being on TV and having a few of the toys aswell. They were great, and I used to use them for my Star Wars and Action Force figures too.

I remember seeing the advert for Robotix back in the 80's. I went to the video store to buy it but they didn't have in stock. I remember being very disappointed. I never got the chance to see it...until today - nearly 40 years later...

I m 36...had it on vhs, the first thing dad bought me when we got our VCR back in 86-87...can't stop watching it....but I've always pondered on what happened to their families on earth.....they had to go back with argus and co i think....

I just saw this today. I have been a fan of transformers, voltron, and the lot for years, but never heard of this show. I was hooked within the first 5 minutes, and have been quite entertained. Imagine what they could have done with more time. I would have loved to see this flushed out, but it is pretty good even as it is. Even the names of the characters sound alien enough to be believable.
0:26 you can hear some the Ghostbusters theme used in this being used, also there's alot the same voice actors as The Transformers had.

This show is 30 years old now, I used to watch it when I was 9 years old. Too bad they didn't make any new episodes. They had this cut down to under 10 minute parts because there were 2 other shows that came with it.

You said it James Best Jr.! I'm ecstatic I was an 80's kid! Our cartoons had innovation, uniqueness, and challenged a child's capacity of imagination. Quite advanced and ahead of their tome mant 80's cartoons were. Most of today's toons are brain dead, doofus, goofy humor, with poorly drawn animation. The VERY FEW good modern day cartoons get cancelled too quickly. So sad. :-(

I just watched this show the other day it brings back lot's of good memories of how good it was. Hasbro,Marvel,Sunbow productions and Toei animation were on top.It's too bad kids today don't get the same treatment I did growing up the 80s still rock.

Interesting recycling of the classic Battlestar Galactica/Buck Rogers In the 25th Century sound FX.
ALOT of the show and story and fx and VA are recycled, but it is now part of transformers canon
