4x4 Off-Road UTV Build Ep.31 - Limited Slip Differential, Axle Assembly

  • Disassembly of the homemade 4x4 UTV and final welding of the frame including front mounted snow plow mounts. Primer and paint, control arm bushing & wheel bearing replacement, brake caliper rebuild, radiator & fan cover fabrication, timing belt and coolant pump replacement on the engine, power steering pump mount modification, limited slip conversion kit installation; control arm, strut, axle shafts & differential installation.
    This is part of a series of a four wheel drive utility vehicle build to lessen the work load on my trusty 2002 Honda Foreman Rubicon TRX500FA. This partially answers the question "Why?" but for those who want to ask "why don't you just buy a UTV instead of building one?" I just want to say - I'm not made of money. UTV-s are ridiculously expensive, even the car I drive around daily is worth less (not worthless though!), hell, it is even worth less than my 2002 Honda ATV.
    "How much HP will it have?" - the 1.4 litre FWD Peugeot petrol engine I'm using has 55 kw and this will not change, but the torque is tripled via the BMW E39 differentials I'm using to transfer power to front and rear axles.
    "It will be too heavy!" - this project just like the firewood processor project does not have to float. And a heavier vehicle will handle better anyway when hauling heavy loads.
    All of this fabrication is done in my tiny homemade workshop.

      Question for you, that metal block with the yellow springs is that some kind of locker if so how does it work, and did u make this or is it a kit, and if u made it where did u get the measurements for it, just curious maybe I can do a cheap locker set up for an old Subaru or half ton Chevy without welding it !!!!

      @@nobody4634 look up Lock Right locker 👍 They work awesome! No welding, they lock under load giving power to both wheels, off throttle they unlock so they don’t scrub tires in corners. I think you would like one. They cost about $250 but are worth it.

      an oft misquoted and misused Shakespearian quote
      This so-called jack of all trades was in fact William Shakespeare. The full phrase is “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” It was a compliment.

    A good pair of pliers to remove snap rings of that size would be a set of parallel snub nose pliers fitted (welding or grub screw) with pins. Because they're parallel, they'll never let loose the ring, causing untold destruction and panic. :)

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, if you do things yourself it's still DIY, isn't it? While you do them you get more skilled and thus the ordinary known "hot glue gun" DIY evolves into something else. But it's still DIY for the person who does it, I think.🤔

    • @horatiohornblower868
      @horatiohornblower868 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Donn DIY Absolutely! Every project you do on your own is DIY. But there is a galactic difference between your work and that of the commoners. And that is by no means denigrating towards them.

    I see that the process for removing snap-rings is the same as the US.
    1. Try
    2. Cuss at it
    3. Cuss at it some more
    4. Break pliers( a lot more cussing)
    5. Get new pliers
    6. Cuss at it some more
    7. Finally it almost falls out on it's own!
    I feel your pain. Keep after it. That UTV definitely has a mad max vibe.
    How about a powered trailer like a Gamma Goat to put behind it?
