Great vid, A man after my own heart! You buy a brand new motorcycle and one of the first things you do is pull it to bits to see how it fits together. I also have an FTR1200s, 2 days after I bought it a mate comes over and its in 20 bits all over the garage, He asked what the hell I was doing, it isnt broken is it? No just looking I said. He looked t me as if I had grown two heads! I's got's to know whats under the skin man! P.S. Hi from Far North Queensland
This is the essence of what modern tuning is all about. You can be certain your dealer won't do any on this. Add an aftermarket exhaust and an Indian free flow air intake and you'll have a completely different bike. This is the same thing that you do with diesel trucks. I have a RAM and it runs better and gets better mileage after tuning. Lots of fun!
I tune Indians daily using the PV3. It can be a very overwhelming process if you aren't familiar with the changes you are making. If you need some help getting a map built to fit all your mods, let me know. You need to make some changes to the fueling to compensate for the more open exhaust you are running.
Awesome video man. I have a 2019 ftr race replica with a cat delete as well. It definitely has a hard time starting every once and a while, and will definitely backfire on the downshift. Dealer wants 700 usd for a tune. Looking into opions and your video is great. P.s. i couldnt tell what in the aussie heck was that background sound. A bird? A baby? Lol all good fun man thanks again
Good video! I use a more old school approach for my cold starts, a portable electric hotplate wedged against the sump with a jack a power point timer and she's kicking over at at a toasty 30c on winter mornings. i need this PV3 after discovering the FTR has a 7,500 top gear rev limit or 200 kmph top speed (ride day) apparently unlocking it voids engine warranty. She's a beast in track mode that extra 40kmph would be nice!
I’ve had an FTR since they came out. Great bike but it runs like absolute trash until it’s warm. The stalling issue is well known and Indian doesn’t seem to want to fix the issue. I actually ran the bike once and took it for a ride when it was 45 degrees outside, and that’s Fahrenheit. I had to pull over and let it actually warm up to about 200 degrees before it would actually run well. I might have to invest in this so I can eliminate the speed limiter as well
One thing I've noticed on my 2023 FTR 1200 Sport is some VP Racing Fuel Octane Booster. Really makes a difference in Sport mode.... 🙂 Maybe you have better fuel over there. All I have is crappy 91 octane pump gas so....
It was running lean cause you had the air box off. Removing the cat and installing a free flowing exhaust doesn’t lean it out as much as intake mods do.
I agree with you there. Running open throttle bodies will make it run leaner. Think thats why it back fired out of the bodies. Running a derestricted exhaust will only lean it out under high loads on rapidly snapping open the throttle, depends on the ECUs ability to compensate. Instant mixture control relies on the fuel maps, so probably leans out when the throttle is snapped open. Ive read that the feed back loop from the O2 sensors is delayed by a few seconds, depending on O2 probe type.
Stock tune means it's a tune for a bike without mods like exhaust/airfilter, the tune itself is not the same as the factory tune if that's what you thought.
Indian have to prove it caused the problem, in reality it will be more reliable if it's fueled correctly with mapping as apposed to the euro 5 mapping.
@@mostlymotorcycles. Theoretically, making ANY changes to your bike before the warranty expires could void it. It's funny how people won't stray away from a manufacturer's recommended brand of oil, for fear of voiding the warranty, but think nothing of installing an aftermarket exhaust as soon as their bike hits its break-in mileage!
rather than bump the idle speed, why not correct the idle speed fueling and AFR's? Seems absurd to idle at 1500, when my Triumph will idle all day at 900 RPM if I program it to do so.
The FTR is a high reving motor 10,000rpm red line and idles at 1100 when warm. Its not unusual for a cold motor start map to increase idle revs to help prevent fuel wetting of the cylinder in cold conditions. I did increase the cold start air fuel ratio once I figured out the mapping software and now have the cold start RPM at 1350. It only idles at this level for around 15 seconds then ramps down to normal speed as the warmup proceeds.
Hi, do you still have an unlocked .djt file? I would love to compare a tuned file to the stock one but sadly now they are all password protected. Cheers!
The extra rpms help with cold thick oil. And gives it some spinning inertia to keep the motor running when it miss fires. I have richened up the fuel mixture for the cold since that vid and was able to drop the cold start rpm by 200.
I keep pausing this video to see if the baby whining in the background is mine or yours. I guess if I was wrenching on my bike instead of going down the youtube rabbit hole, id let him whine until im done too.
Very informative, helpful video. I haven't used my new DynoJet yet or my cat delete... Watching this has been immensely helpful!!!

Hope you have been enjoying the ride!

Cheers for the vid, definitely going to buy the PV3 tuner. Can you tell me what bar end mirrors you bought?
Check your gas. I now run only ethanol free premium gas and it has eliminated ruff idle and stalling. Tried everything else until I did that.
most fuels in Australia are ethanol free except E15 and E85.... bmw and moto Guzzi euro 5 models have the same issues.....way to lean.

speed limiter on mines set to 250ks. have had it up to 230 but dam its hard to hang on to.

Have you had a look at the Corbin tail tidy piece ?

That's interesting our premium is 98.
But I seem to recall the US use a different method of figuring out octane ratings.

Cheers for video. Does the stock FTR map on the PV3 make any improvements, or is it literally just a plain old stock?

Can I ask where you got the Tail Tidy from? cheers
The tail tidy is just the shortened original. Cut it short, blanked all the tubes, redrilled for the plate, sand blasted and repainted.
Seems too complicated for me I think I will need to have someone do the download but thanks for the video
I have the same issue, but will this remapping impact your warranty? Surley its for Indian to recall and sort this? Many thanks good viewing!
I'd say your right, it could void the warranty. Make any changes at your own risk.
Indian have to prove it caused the problem, in reality it will be more reliable if it's fueled correctly with mapping as apposed to the euro 5 mapping.

can you turn off "cold start" like on a car tuning software. since there is no cat that is the only purpose of cold start extra rpms
The extra rpms help with cold thick oil. And gives it some spinning inertia to keep the motor running when it miss fires.

Is that seat better thank the black one? More comfortable?
It’s a little bit better, more padding I’d say. Not sure if the price warrants the up grade though.

Baby??
It sounds like either a cat or a bird to me.
Hahahaha that's a crow....
Its a Magpie.
