    I owned the Omega VSJ843 and I bought the Nama. My impressions: the prep time to juice in the Nama is outrageously long. The Omega juices faster, and handles much larger pieces of fruit and vegetables.
    The thing I dislike about the Omega is it is WAY harder to clean than the Nama. I need tweezers. I can clean the entire Nama in under 2 minutes. The Omega takes 5-6 because it holds on to fibers.
    Recently the Nama has been locking up, making disassembly difficult to impossible. There are finally videos available that show how to make release the parts when it locks up.
    Juice quality? About the same. Warranty? A joke. And the feed chute is so small, it's a pain in the ass to have to cut things into small pieces in order to feed them into the auger.
    Conclusion? I'm with you. The Nama is hyped by a lot
    of people who have never owned a decent juicer, but the Omega is a better machine.

    With the Omega you put the lettuce leaf down first and with the Nama you put the lettuce stalk down first. Could that have made a difference in the time and oxidation? I have a Nama and my only complaint so far is that the shoot is too small thus taking more time but I have never experienced the level of oxidation that was in this video. They both seem to be great machines. Thank you for your demonstration.

    I got BOTH juicers. John is right! The Omega VSJ is less hassle, easier to clean, larger fed chute, loner warranty, faster to use, and to me does a better job at not oxidizing green produce. However, I would say that Nama does have more torque and juices hard produce like carrots, beets, etc better. Hope that helps with your choice. To me , the nod goes to the Omega VSJ. You choose.

    My Nama arrived yesterday. I read the instructions last night, and I'm ready to use it for the first time today.
    I have decided to buy the Nama, way above my budget, because I am just tired of buying juicers that just make me waste money on the juicer itself aaaand the ingredients. I will not name all the ones I bought, but i even went as high as $219.00, and was still disappointed. So, after lengthy researches by me and my children, we narrowed down the Nama and the Omega. We really were stuck between the 2, but went with the Nama. So I will update after a week how my Nama holds up to its name.

I make meatloaf, meatballs, burgers with the veggie pulps and something sweet with the fruits. No juicer is gonna be 100% perfect, but I would recommend the Nama cause I feel it's the closest.

    A couple things that I didn't see were that no pulp comparison to see which was the driest and could it been that the darker Nama juice was because it got more of the nutrients out of the lettuce 🥬 than the vsj843. I can't help but wonder if Nama juice would have been a better color/taste had you cut to produce up more and not forced it through in such large bunches.
    It leaves the question of whether or not this test fairly represents the way the Nama should be used instead of how you want to use the juicer.
    We have to consider the possibility of diminishing returns, in terms of both time and results, due to the juicing method.

    • @yamamancha
      @yamamancha 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnkohler8711
      My assumption was that the Nama instructs users to chop up greens into small bits (the way you'd cut and dump in celery).
      If Nama promotes that juicer as not requiring precutting, that's a HUGE problem. There appears to be little "grabbing and pulling" action that you see with many vertical juicers when juicing green vegetables.
      I cut my greens into 8ths or 10ths and then just let them fall in. That seems to be the more logical way for the Nama. Having to use the pusher so much on on such a slow juicer is bound to impact the service life and surely require replacing the screen after a few years.

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@yamamancha One of "Nama's" claim to fame is the fact that "due to more torque" no PRECUTTING is required, saving you time. I personally would not advertise the Nama in this way myself. Other verticals do recommend precutting greens although not to the smaller size I recommend. Surely it is best to precut produce, but even when I do in the nama it can "hang" in the top of the feed chute and not drop in as easy as other verticals I have used.

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could have chopped it up into small bits and dropped it into the juicer, and it MAY have worked better, but this would even take MORE time. So if you want to go slower, you can. But in all cases, the vsj843 would still be more quick to juice due to feed chute size/convenience of opening and more easily accepts produce. Nama promotes that this juicer does not REQUIRE precutting of greens (which I disagree with). So you have to push with MORE force to get them in there. This is one of the pros/cons that each person needs to determine for themselves.

    I just saw that the new Nama J2 has an opening as big as a food processor and that is about the most awesome thing: no more one thing at a time trying to squeeze it through the narrow chute...now you can just layer everything just like processor or blender...I think that's the best option I have seen.

      I understand you feel I am "biased" with the Omega. I personally believe I tend to be very analytical, and CLEARLY if you watch the video, you will learn the pros and cons of every juicer. I strive to SHOW WHY I say the things I do. Am I perfect? of course not, but I strive to do the best job I can. I have nearly a hundred hours of juicing with my nama juicer to date. and this video shows 1.5 hours of that. I can say IMO In Fully Raw Kristinas videos, she does not show the full video, only "clips" out parts she feels to be important. The fact of the matter is each juicer offers their own set of pros and cons, and each person needs to determine which juicer "checks more boxes" for them. I strive to make the best juicer comparisons on youtube to help people make this decision, despite my commentary, if people do not agree with what I am saying.

      Well to be fair every video “review” I’ve seen for the Nama might as well be an infomercial for the juicer. While it’s easy to see that John favors the VSJ, at least we’re finally seeing the downside of the Nama. Quite honestly a small chute would drive me nuts. Sometimes I wish I got the Kuvings over the Slowstar because even the Slowstar’s feed chute is pretty small. So if the Nama’s is even smallEr that’d make juicing that much more tedious. And so far John’s the only one I’ve seen to mention that or say anything negative about the Nama.

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I was not paying attention when feeding lettuce into the nama. I'm not perfect. That being said, no matter which way you feed, the following time you feed, you will get the "stem end" which is what matters, as it will help push the softer material thru the juicer. Next, I HAD to be more forceful with the nama, the lettuce got STUCK in the feed chute, and would not go in as easy, due to the design of the top of the auger. In addition, due to the higher level of backpressure the nama puts (due to the design, which may make a higher yield) the produce doesn't feed thru the juicer as easily as on the VSJ843. I encourage you to purchase BOTH juicers, and do this test, I am confident you will get similar results as I did. Due to having more backpressure, it also causes more oxidation, see my video on the MM900, where this also occurs.

    Is the juice darker because it’s more oxidized? Or because it pressed the produce harder and got out more of the chlorophyll and what not?

    • @johnkohler8711
      @johnkohler8711 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While that is possible, I highly doubt it. As evidenced by the more brown pulp inside the juicer. Also if you were taste the juices, you would taste the very minor difference in taste. I have juiced 1000s of pounds of produce using many different juicers, and am quite familiar with how oxidized juices taste and look. If I used a champion juicer, it also browns juices, and it is TOTALLY because of oxidation in that juicer that will also make a more brown juice, which is caused by more friction in the creation of the juice. In the old days, champion would advertise this as a more "rich juice".; which I personally dont believe is accurate. If it was more chlophyll, I believe it would be more of a darker green, (not brownish). think wheatgrass juice from a dedicated wheatgrass auger juicer. Some juicers such as the Pure juicer, when I press pulp (from a slow juicer) DOES make a darker juice, because I believe it is extracting more phytonutrients by crushing cell walls. I will make a video about this one of these days.

    My review on Juicers
    I have used 4 juicers to date. One of them Breville Fountain Plus, Omega 365, Omega 1000HDS, and finally Nama.
    Breville - Could extract only 50% juice from Produce. Completely inefficient and a waste of money.
    Omega 365 - Could extract 70% juice from Produce. A bit of a compromise in terms of efficiency. Biggest Con, Weak parts, broke in 2 months.
    Omega 1000HDS - Could extract 90% juice from Produce. Satisfied with efficiency but the con was it could only juice hard vegetables, gets completely stuck with soft produce especially fruits. Only works for vegetables.
    Nama 5800 - By far, the best juicer I have used. Extracts up to 90% juice. Works equally good on both vegetables and fruits. Completely satisfied. It does make a squeaking sound now and then. I don't know if it means something but hoping the parts keep up with juicing. Otherwise, I am happy.

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike, Honestly, I get "caught up in the video" and sometimes move too quickly. This was my oversight. That being said, EVEN if juiced the other way, which is not optimal, it doesn't matter THAT much,. The issue is
      When you feed stem end first then leaf end, the juicer "gets the crunchy stuff, that works BEST" folled by the softer stuff.
      If you feed the stem end first, you get the crunchy stuff first, then the leafy stuff, BUT the next piece, you get the same CRUNCHY stuff first, which in the end accomplishes the same thing.
      Also because the nama lettuce was cut into 1/4s there was NOT as much crunchy stem to affect the juicing process as much as on the VSJ843, which each time got 1/2 a crunchy stem.
      In any case, I believe IF You purchased BOTH juicers and did this exact comparison, if you DID properly feed "perfectly" each time, you would get similar results that I show.

    I really liked the thoroughness of this review as you compared the components of each machine. Where I wish you had changed your comparison method is when you put the romaine lettuce into the juicers. Each manufacturer has recommendations as to how to put vegetables/fruits into the respective machines. When you were demonstrating the Nama, I wish you had cut the romaine up a little bit more so that you didn’t have to use the pusher as frequently because as you pointed out, the chute to the Nama was significantly smaller than the Omega. I think that would have prevented leaves from falling all over the place including into the juice container, as well as getting jammed in the chute because more romaine was put in than the chute could handle. The Nama would have taken even longer had you done that. Last, looks of food do influence our taste. In fairness, I wish you had blind folded your self so that you didn’t know which juice you were tasting. I feel that would have been fairer. That being said, all of the comparison that you did machine to machine, convinced me that if you want juice, I would go with the Omega. Thanks so much for doing this video and sharing.

    I have the omega and a breville. I never stick with the omega. Cutting everything up, cleaning etc takes A LONG TIME! with the breville I juice consistently. And yes I know the difference between the two. Time is also money...

    John would you prefer using the nutramilk over the VSJ for nut milk 🥛. Or stick with the vsj strictly for juicing and use the nutramilk for nut milks.

    • @johnkohler8711
      @johnkohler8711 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Each style of making nut milk has its own set of pros and cons.
      I like the less parts to clean of the vacuum blender/VSJ to make nut milk.
      I like the "richness" and thick and rich taste of the nut milk made in the nutramilk
      The nutramilk also provides you a better benefit as you get more fiber in the nut milk than made with the VSJ843.
      Nutramilk saves you more money as there are very little waste when you are done.
      Of course, if you want the pulp and dry it you can turn it into almond flour for baking gluten free goods. The nutramilk will not provide this.
      I suppose it depends on what you like in the end. In general, I personally use the vacuum blender/VSJ843 when making nut milk over the nutramilk. I do use the nutramilk to make nut butter over using a juicer, as it works significantly better.

    Thanks for another informative video, John. I bought an Omega 8006 from you years ago, before the vertical masticating juicers came out. It’s never had so much as a hiccup in over 10 years so no complaints from me. My family can do whatever they want with it after I die. 😄

    I have the Jack Lalane juicer which is still going good for me, my only complain is it cannot juice leafy greens. I observed that you purposely sabotaged the Nama by the way you were putting the leaves in, head first as opposed to leaf first as you said to. I also noticed that you might like the name a lot more than you are letting, because it has way more use than the omega.

    I got the omega recommended here manufactured June 2020 on ebay. Very light use from previous owner. I was surprised that greens stuck to the underside of the black thing that turns and after parsley and kale I used reverse and it dislodged the whole thing forcing me to take it apart. What a mess! Clean up is not what I expected either. Not sure if this was an exception or if omega is going down hill. Opinion?

  • @HansDelbruck53
    @HansDelbruck53 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Watts are not a measure of torque. Watts indicate the power consumption of the motor.
    The Nama motor may very well produce more torque than the other one. You'd have to look at the relative torque specifications for each motor to know for sure.

      I did view that video, and in my expert opinion, it is flawed. Here are some of my thoughts:
      1. She does not weight out produce to let you know it is a fair comparison.
      2. She juices OFF camera, she could add more or less juice to affect yields.
      3. She has a financial relationship with Nama but NOT the other two companies.
      4. The other juicer names are taped over. Is she afraid of getting sued for slander? Why else would she tape them over?
      In the future, I Will make my own video showing the truth juicing carrots and celery in three different juicers. So subscribe to my channel to be notified when it comes out so people can learn the truth. Im not a gambling man, but I almost guarantee the other two juicers will yield more than she shows, In my personal opinion. Would love to do the juicer comparison with her to ensure it is fair and accurate.

    I just bought the Omega Juicer from Home Depot. The unit working fine:
    1. The juice seems sweeter than the Horizontal Juicer H8008C making juice. I have this H8008C almost 3 years.
    2. The Unit produces less yield than the H8008C
    3. The pulp is finer and less volume than the Juicer H8008C
    4. Noise of this machine is quieter than H8008C, Range: 47db - 52db
    5. The pulp of VSJ843Q is moist comparing to Juicer H8008C is dried bone.
    6. It is easier to clean the juicer H8008C than the juicer VSJ843Q. But no big deal.
    I have to return the VSJ843Q juicer because there are No RED color (missing) on the triangles. It is a visual AID for alignment. It is hard to align without the RED color triangles.
    The made in China H8008C is the good one for me. Omega customer Service is VERY quick and helpful.

I’ve had frustrations with my Slowstar from using it that I wouldn’t have ever learned if the only knowledge I had was TH-cam vids.
