Ernie Phillips...my all time favorite tenor. I still rememer Jim Hamill introducing him on the Kingsmen Live in Chatanooga Album. I grew up listening to the Kingsmen and the Inspirations and still today no group holds a candle in comparison to them in my eyes.
Used to follow these guys around in the seventies and eighties, when it was Ray Dean, Squire, Eldridge, Big Jim, Ernie, and Anthony. God, do I miss those days, and those concerts...
I so agree! I have admired Ernie since I was a youngster, also! I do have to say, Ernies boy Eric is just as good, and may even surpass Ernie as he matures. He sings with Mark Trammel Quartet, and if you haven't heard him, give a listen here on TH-cam, I think you will enjoy him, too. I saw MTQ recently at Florrisant, MO, and was so impressed.
The Kingsmen Quartet sure got that right, on that first song! If someone is a Brother or a Sister in Christ Jesus, no body should be knockin' and kickin' and scratchin' on 'em! The Holy Bible tells us:"Judge not, that ye be not judged"! Love them Kingsmen! Wish they were all still alive and performing together, but, unfortunately, time and death waits for nobody. Eldridge Fox, Jim Hamill, Ernie Phillips, Gary Dillard, Anthony Burger, and maybe some of the other Kingsmen Quartet Members, have shuffled off their Mortal Coils, and have hopefully gone on home to be with the Lord. Ray Dean Reese is in, like, his Middle 80s, and has had to pull in a new Bass Singer, and there was one other lineup change that happened here recently, that caught me totally by surprise: Chris Jenkins, formerly of the Kingsmen, kinda trading places with the Tenor from Gold City! Chris Jenkins, though, is one of my favorite Tenor Singers, ever. He's right up there with Brian Free, Johnny Parrack, Johnny's son Jay Parrack, Ernie Phillips, and Harold Reed, just to name a few. Let's see what the Lord has in store for the Kingsmen Quartet, in time to come.
