Great video Tim. I enjoy your reviews. Your review of the Tops NATA helped in my decision to purchase the Nata along with Aaron's review on Gideons Tactical. The NATA is one bad ass piece of steel.
However, I like the High Impact axe. Pricey, yes, indeed. With the quality one gets from this piece is worth it, in my opinion. This thing is no joke. To get the quality this thing delivers is under the adage, "Cry once," when one opens up the wallet. It is very much like Fjallraven clothing. Expensive but will last a life time. It is an investment. I think if one looks at it in that sense than this is something that could make it into somebodies kit. I agree going long distances with this is not ideal. However on short duration excursions, car camping, or other ideal situations that present themselves, this is something that could be used with great impact. Longer duration hikes, The Tops NATA would be ideal or maybe Tops Grandpa Axe.
My kit currently includes the Tops NATA, Tops Brush Wolf, Joker Nessmuck, Silky Pocket Boy or Big Boy, a Dalstrong Hori Hori for digging, and a hand chainsaw. With these options to choose from I am prepared to choose for whatever my trip may call for. The High Impact would round out and complete my processing field kits.

The handle length gives it good versatility and has great handle geometry. I'm always a fan of full tang construction though micarta is not my favorite handle material. Lastly, I would have made the hammer face parallel to the handle instead of the angle that it's at. All around great tool, something I would ask my Sugar Momma to buy for me if I actually had a Sugar Momma and deffinitely something I would invest in myself.

Cool axe! I too prefer the El Chete; as it chops and batons wonderfully. The El Chete is my favorite wood processing tool, although I don't backpack with it either. Thanks for the review Tim.

The Ontario FLEET fire SPAX is in my opinion the best truck axe ever made. Kind of surprising they discontinued it. Glad I got one when they came out.

Small cutout might be used to strike a fire steel?
Is there any shock reverberating within the handle when chopping? It looks like there would be some although given the thickness might not be..

Why would they go with 1075 as opposed to 1095? Honest question. Is it a matter of hardening?
1075 has a bit more flex so it'll take more of a beating. Also, easier to sharpen in the field. Some companies use 1075 for larger chopping tools.

Would you pick this over a estwing axe?.
I see people having issues with the price, but I think it depends what you comparing it to, for example I see people comparing it to a Gransfors or an Estwing, witch is like comparing apples to oranges, they are different animals. I think what this compares to would be the RMJ Berserker which I have a feeling is what TOPS was going for, now if that comparison is made the price doesn't seem all that bad. That being said I would love to see a bit more Hammer to it and a bit more horn/point.
Id love to see a video on the S7 tomahawk by mountain man toys looks really cool and uses s7 steel which is the steel they use on the tips of the best jackhammers and is know as a beast of a tough steel that also holds a great edge and isn’t hard to sharpen but there’s only one short video on utube literally under 30 seconds comes with a hickory handle a great looking head and leather cover that also looks well made goes for around $150 and it would be nice to get a detailed video on this tomahawk. They also sell replacement handles etc.
They should make a version of it, that has a blade one inch shorter and a handle 2 inches shorter. Oh and make the full tang thinner.
This would make the weight good.

I really liked your review until you got to the price. WOW! I can buy really good axes for less money. Maybe when I win the lotto I won’t care about the price especially for 1075 steel.
I want to see someone throw an axe like that to split a small tree in half kinda like you see in the Daniel Boone show intro's. That'd be worth some mega views and go viral. Probably.
You know Tim I like your videos and this one was good but I think that Tops is one of those companies that just charges too much for what they sell. It's like buying a balisong from Benchmade that cost at least 10 times more then I can buy from a lot of other companies I just won't spend that kind of money for a name brand.
Knife center has it for 250 $ I’d go with a Gransfors over this for that kind of cash .

Black socks with shorts not cool not cool at all man 😉. Looks cooler than all my tactical hatchets/axes but I still love my gransfors and tomahawks from 2 hawks and H and B forge and a cold steel beater which isn’t actually that bad just not the choice I’d make for a bug out or for camping/hiking for more than a week or two
