I have newfound respect for "The Gilmore Girls" now. Sort of like when "Tiny Toon Adventures" played music by They Might Be Giants. Some acts are too hip to be kept a secret forever. God bless Ron and Russell!
Absolutely right! And I was surprised by the references in litterature and especially the European literature or Russian like Tolstoï, the French Moliere or Flaubert or Sylvia Plath and Emily Dickinson the American. . I heard about Gilmore Girls many years ago but I watched all the seasons only recently. A delicious "feel good" TV broadcast. Nice to watch this lovely seasons in our so hard times.. .Greetings from Paris! Paris France (not Paris Geller (lol). Nice to watch
@MrJFlashify I don't know dude, GG is in its own class. Ive never seen a weekly, episodic show largely geared toward teens that was so intelligent. This is a perfect example! The girls talk about Kids In The Hall, Norman Mailer, Jack Kerouac, Chuck Berry, etc
You know he's 71 years old! No disrespect but I have to wonder if he takes steroids or hormone therapy to look that youthful...even now! He looks amazing.
After watching GG multiple times and only having just got into Sparks, man, am I kicking myself right now! I knew they FELT familiar when I saw Annette!
This is perhaps my favorite episode EVER!!! It makes me laugh how many people know Mary Lynn from "24", which I have never watched, & yet I STILL have all the lyrics to "Car Song" memorized!!
I'll second that, LAMLKMHWC1. (How can you remember that when you log in..!?) Russell is so cute in this video, it must be the 40th time I've seen this video or so, just to see "Well, screeew the past.."
My hair is long and black....and I like both sparks and Emo Phillips. HA! Both were interests were acquired from a friend of mind with short red hair... Sparks + Emo = nifty people.
I was walking thru my living room and i saw my mum was watching Gilmore Girls, and i saw Russel, i was like ,,What?? Is Russel actor or somethin?” No, he was in Gilmore Girls, SPARKS WAS IN GILMORE GIRLS
How extraordinary! I did not know that so many liked both Emo and Sparks! Their sort of humour must be similar, I haven't really analyzed it, but.. Oh, in the song Good Morning, when they sing "I hope it's just your laugh that is infectious", I was thinking it sounded like an Emo Philips-joke! We really must start a club. Name suggestions?
I found it interesting how the moustache of Ron looked in this episode. In earlier days it looked like the one of Hitler or Chaplin, but here I have to think of "John Waters" ;)!
@@radvibes Hey Iam a long time great Fan of Russell and Ron! ! ! And Ron is a big fan of silent films like Chaplin of Stan and Olli (Laurel &Hardy ). I find it personal always so hurting to see how often people saying that's "Hitlerstyle" And additional to that they haved both an Jewish Anchestry! !
In an interview, Ron explained that a tv appearance they were supposed to do in France was cancelled when the producer saw Ron's mustache. They didn't want to upset viewers with any Hitler references! So after that incident, Ron changed the style. Ron said "I meant it to be Chaplinesque. I didn't mean it to be dictator-esque."
The thinner moustache looks rather suave on him though. Russell looks great here with his lighter, boyish hair cut. It's always a pleasure to watch clever, charismatic Sparks perform.
I hated Gilmore girls but always found myself watching it cos there was nothing else on. Watching the conversations swing back and forth in that show gave me a headache and made me dizzy. Of course this is one of the rare few episodes i missed.
I still can't get over the fact that Gilmore Girls had Sparks and Sonic Youth in one single episode.
I kind of appreciate Carol King having a small role too!
Yeah!!!!!
And yo la tengo
This is enough to make me watch the entire series TBH.
Well, not really sonic youth… only thurston, Kim and coco…
I just wish there was a full length version of this ...... street corner version, with just the vocals and keys.
GG is one of the best TV shows ever. Period. The pop culture references, the fast and funny dialogue and great characters...

Ron and Russell are the greatest, love them with all my heart!
Was thrilled to see Sparks on Gilmore Girls!
Darn!! If I'd known Sparks was going to be on Gilmore Girls, I'd have made myself watch that episode!!They look MAHVELOUS!!!!
Its SPARKS!!!! legendary band!!!
i keep coming back to this
Omg i might have to watch gg now that they've had a sparks seal of approval
Sparks are still awesome, I've never saw this until now. They're really lovely!
yall I’ve watched all the seasons 21 times. i think I have a big problem. Gilmore girls is the only show I watcg
You're not alone, sis!
Same.
This is one of the greatest videos to be uploaded over to TH-cam ever. And I'm not even being ironic.
i mean... this video is literally as old as I am
The best busking duo ever!!!!
One of the great things about Gilmore Girls was all the hip pop culture references they made. I love it. ........plus Lauren Graham is waaaaay hot. :)
Absolutely right!

You appear to be a person of very good taste. I shall look through your favourite videos for the next object of my obsession.
OMG they are so good in this.
I've never heard about Gilmore Girls until see this video haha. I love Sparks!
I never watch Gilmor girls but I'm a Sparks fan.
Thank you to post this clip.
I love this song. It's my fav off the HYL album. God, how hot is Russell?
You know he's 71 years old! No disrespect but I have to wonder if he takes steroids or hormone therapy to look that youthful...even now! He looks amazing.
@@radvibes Keep in mind that this episode was shot 14 years ago!
@@Exodianecross1978 Yes. I'm going by a more recent video I saw of him dancing on the Sparks Facebook page.
How did those two keep their personal lives a secret? Usually significant and insignificant others are not so cooperative.
@@Exodianecross1978 do yk what episode this is?

I love the Gilmore Girls, they are a little like my mom and me. And this season of this show is the only one I bought on DVD- ust because of Sparks.
Well, I did have at one point! Good to hear from you.
I was utterly shocked when I saw them in the episode with all the Troubadours.
I
i just came here for sparks but oh my god the other street musician is the guidance councelor from FREAKS AND GEEKS!
It's Mr. Rosso!
He pops in and out throughout the series
And I just realised you posted this comment 8 years ago 😂
I love these episode. XD

Now I'll have to kick myself. Totally missed out on that! Sparks ROCK, they need their own variety TV show!
Netflix...
Ron's rhythmic piano melody makes this version better than the sterile original album version
hahaah if only in real life you could just bump into them playing in any street corner
Gilmore Girls is like Clerks for girls. ;)

the first song is actually good wtf
XTC was played a few times on the GG's....

@MrJFlashify i was just going to comment the same thing...stupid show, BRILLIANT band!
This is probably why us Brits love them, we aren't Mediocre or ignorant (well, most of us aren't)
Thanks. Hope you find something you like :)
OMG - a Sparks + Emo Philips-fan!!? Do you have long brown hair, cuz if you do, you're pretty much me!
Thank Amy Sherman-Palladino for being a diehard Sparks fan!
Well done, someone let me down over this clip, isn't Russell looking young and Rona looks the same he always does.
Russell goes a bit Emo Phillips at 0:07!
I found it interesting how the moustache of Ron looked in this episode. In earlier days it looked like the one of Hitler or Chaplin, but here I have to think of "John Waters" ;)!
You're right. Its always been hitler-style. Directors probably didnt want it to resemble a Hitlerstache!
@@radvibes Ron changed it a long time ago, he already had a thin moustache when the Sparks released "When do I get to sing my way"!

Lorelei would have worn Clinique Happy.
Still hate this show, but glad to see Sparks getting featured on it... Never saw this clip until now.

Haha, I think any title with the word "Emo" in it would arouse suspicion.. The Sparking Emo-philiacs maybe?
The Sparking Emos?
