Railfanning Suisun - Fairfield - 10/8/17

- On a rather nice Sunday morning with some free time available, I decided to head down to the Suisun - Fairfield Amtrak Station and catch some trains from mid-morning until around noon. I had visited this station back in 2015 and had plans to return and railfan but it has eluded me for a while, that is until this day. The Suisun - Fairfield station still retains most of its historic depot that was built in 1904 in addition to some station amenities, although it is unstaffed with the exception of a local store inside the station itself. One of the good things about this station is that approaching trains can be heard from either the east or west, primarily due to grade crossings just a ways from the station, but it is worth noting that there were also a number of transients that frequent the station. Furthermore this station also has a hold-out rule where no more than one train can board passengers at a given time, allowing for some conveniently timed trains. Overall though, it is a pretty nice place to railfan with some interesting camera locations and the activity that runs by here.
Train 1 : Amtrak 727 with F59PHI #2013 & CabCar #6963. Just after twenty minutes of being here, 727 arrives and departs with some nice long horn action to start off the day here !
Train 2 : Amtrak 720 with CabCar #8303 & F59PHI #2015.
Train 3 : Amtrak 729 with F59PHI #2003 & CabCar #8301. Friendly engineer on 729 !
Train 4 : Amtrak 724 with CabCar #6962 & F59PHI #2008. Nice engineer on 724.
Train 5 : Amtrak 733 with F59PHI #2009 & CabCar #6965.
Train 6 : Union Pacific KOADU-08 with C45AH #2577, SD70M #5063, C45ACCTE #5273, SD70M #3925(Mid-DPU), & C45AH #2653(Mid-DPU). This was definitely an unexpected surprise as I was only expecting Amtrak 6 in a couple minutes. Not only that, with the best of luck, the Mid-DPUs precisely stopped right in front of me and idled for 10+ minutes while waiting for Amtrak 6 to clear ! Awesome crew on KOADU-08 as well ! (I included some portion of the idle as it is very rare in my opinion to be that close to a locomotive and as long as it did when railfanning ! )
Train 7 : Amtrak 6 (California Zephyr) with P42DC #168 & #125. I had originally expected only Amtrak 6 to pass through here, but after UP KOADU-08 showed up and stopped precisely at the Mid-DPUs, I utilized that to catch it passing on the far track.
Train 8 : Amtrak 728 with CabCar #8311 & F59PHI #2011. Nice engineer on #8311 with some horn echoes as the train departs !
Train 9 : Union Pacific MRVOA-08 with SD70M #3871, SD59MX #9927, SD70M #4175, & #4301. This train definitely snuck up on me as it was almost silent approaching the station !
Train 10 : Amtrak 737 with F59PHI #2015 & CabCar #8303.

ziggypwner Thank you ! Haha, well I still have quite a lot to film at, but the plan is to film all Amtrak stations in addition to other heavy rail stations in California. We’re still looking at 25+ for Amtrak stations and 40+ for commuter rail stations.
I wish you stayed there longer, because there was a UP Military train with CSX power. But your video is Awesome by the way!!!!!
Copper Cruz I know !!! :/ After I left to get food and headed back to Sacramento, I saw the train just east of Davis while on the Yolo Causeway. I was bummed, but it happens (and has happened) anytime you go railfanning, haha. And thanks !
