In an Era where violent/horror/Satanic imagery prevailed, (which I love BTW) Anacrusis was a breath of Fresh Air. Their music was powerful, but never hateful. I have much respect for them.🤘
If I’m not mistaken, these guys are from St. Ann. My brother and I were BIG into them. He saw them live back in the day, and met one of the member’s parents at their house. There is a video of Anacrusis performing live, on TH-cam, and my brother and his friend are in the crowd. I can point them out. Such a great album and band!!! 💚🌍🌸🕯🕊❤️

The guys screams are very signature and the guitar tone is nice. I remember hearing frigid bitch by them in 1988. Sounded hardcore at the time, they definitely had my respect.
This album was released a bit over 2 years after ...And Justice for All, another legendary thrash album with progressive elements. Was anyone around at the time Manic Impressions was released to say whether comparisons were made? Or whether the moment had passed for the mainstreaming of this experimental type of thrash (e.g. Black album and the next chapter of metal)? Would love to hear a fan of both this band and AJFA-era Metallica to hear your take.
I was kind of at ground zero when Manic hit. It was well received locally but it didn't get a lot of organized exposure. The comparisons it got were more with Voivod and very little else and the praise that it got was based on it being unique in the thrash landscape. Even though the exposure was small, the reach of that exposure was crazy. On the old IRC #metal channel and usenet newsgroup alt.metal.progressive, Manic and Anacrusis in general were well known and appreciated. In that world, the more popular bands were generally ignored and relegated to those who tended to type in all caps. That's not intended as a rip on Metallica, but rather a snapshot of the community at the time.
for your information they covered a legendary English band which will always be my favourite since am a kid: NEW MODEL ARMY. with the song I LOVE THE WORLD from their legendary lp Thunder and Consolation. they only did great albums as far as music and lyrics from the 80s till today.
Sepultura also covered New Model Army. On their Chaos A.D. album, they covered "The Hunt." I haven't heard the original, but I want to expose myself to New Model Army. Any recommendations on where to start, such as the album you mentioned?
Watershed moment: The first time I heard the pre-chorus in Paint a Picture ("The grey no longer satisfies..."). I also prefer the older version of Tools of Separation.
