DISCUSS, DISCUSS! The first few seconds of the interview were lost due to the age of the source video cassette, but you get the idea and the best portions I believe remain.

I'm glad Chuck wore his kitty shirt for all these interviews he did. It sent a message to anyone seeing them who believed the metal stereotypes, especially those existing with extreme genres like death metal.
Too bad Metallica had already sold out at this point when he's talking all nice about them. They were good when they were "the outcast type of band" and not trying to appeal to the mainstream.

Yeah Chuck wasn't big on gatekeeping or elitism. As he said in his lyrics to be extreme so it seems is an attempt to cover up for those that are completely out of touch.

Guys, no matter how rare and awesome this interview is don't let it fool you. MTV was shitty back then too. It would only be a year later that MTV would can the Headbanger's Ball in favor of a hard rock/grunge show called "SuperRock" Despite being a tool, Rachtman did advocate for more death metal on the show (rumor is that his being vocal about this got him fired. I'm skeptical.) Death Metal videos on the show were a very rare treat in the sea of alterna/grunge videos. Also, Chuck's shirt = WIN

@thyPotato I met Chuck in 1991 when my band opened for Death in Oakland, CA. He is to this day one of the nicest, most laid-back, least "metal" guys I have ever met. Anyway, yeah. Chuck was the best and probably the only person in the (at the time) burgeoning Death Metal scene who could wear a shirt like that and not get curb-stomped by everyone else in the scene.

chuck schuldiner kicks soo much ass. he was an animal lover which explains the shirt. most metal heads would never wear a shirt with cats on it due to fear of what people might think of them but chuck didnt give a shit what anyone thought because he was being himself instead of trying to build himself up as something he wasnt. does caring for animals makes someone less of a metal head? animals are awesome. many people have stabbed me in the back but no animal ever has. people suck
