    Do you know what's sadder? Chuck only started to have more relevance after he passed away, sometimes he was unable to support himself financially through music, at some point he even returned to live with his mother. His friend Steve Giorgio says that there were some cool shows at that time, but also there were some empty shows, Death was really a usual band with usual struggles. Nowadays he is bigger and more relevant than he was in life, basically the Van Gogh of Metal, life sucks.

      I remember during an interview with Eric Greif some time ago he said Chuck actually did make pretty good money, contrary to popular belief. Owned a nice house, several cars, etc. It wasn't until he got sick and his medical bills started to pile up that he began to struggle.

I say this ironically as a guy who got into Christianity recently without going to church. That being said, I'm so glad he called out the bullshit of the church/churches at that time!)

      @@davef4214 YEAH, I was a lifelong atheist. Yet I have this opinion..... I just don't believe that bad believers are going to heaven and that "good" non-believers are going to hell for not sucking up to the "cross."
      I appreciate your appreciation because it was cool to be around in those days and I'm so glad that people like you are keeping it alive! I can't believe that Chuck disappeared so early, fellow dude! It was like Rush and Metallica and King Crimson all combined into something at times!
      We carry the torch for legendary music of all time! ("They just don't make music like this anymore...."*)
      *That used to be the obvious middle-aged guy comment.... 20 years ago, but things have changed... But when entertainment turns to crap.. I can hear any band or any bootleg I want to without even having to go to a hotel convention like the old days.. so it's better and worser than the old... Like the old adage goes, same shit, different day).
      **It's so cool that people more than half my age are still digging this legendary band still!! In a way, I'm not surprised because I always knew this stuff was legendarily great but I didn't know how it carry on without the commercial airplay (or underground push of a new band), but it's still living!

    • @davef4214
      @davef4214 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OkieDokie-ft5pm when my son is old enough, I'm introducing him to this kind of music, but Death specifically. I need to pass the torch down. He loves to watch me play my guitars. I'm a dirty slut for heavy music, and with the internet (as terrible as it can be) I've found some absolutely fucking KILLER bands. With that being said, I agree that no band makes music like Death nowadays. If anything, it's very few and far between. Not that I dont love new stuff because I do but Death just scratches a certain itch for me. It's fucking ferocious in every way heavy music can be.
      Music apps and the internet have done such an amazing service to music like this. I practically grew up with the internet, video games with awesome taste of music, mp3 and CD players and what not. I've always had this kind of exposure to bands like Death, At The Gates, Bolt Thrower and alot of 90s/00's hardcore.
      I'll be keeping underground music alive and thriving until I die man. Whether it's supporting every band I can and or finally getting on stage myself with the boys.
      If you are ever looking for band recs, please ask. I'm more than happy to expose underground bands to people that are interested! Even if they're well known within their respective underground genre. Aside from my wife and son, this shit is my life

      @michaelr.4878 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The difference between the legacy/respect that people have for Chuck is different than the type that they have for other late musicians is because Chuck's comes from his peers. Other musicians are the ones that hold Chuck in such high regard and have upmost respect for him. He is a legend in his peers' eyes and that means a lot. On the other hand, an other guy with a 'rock god' legend around him is Cliff Burton. But it is different. Cliff's 'legend' comes from the fans...mostly non musicians. Cliff wasn't the legendary bass wizard that so many people hold him up to be. Chuck on the other hand, had his legend, legacy and totally respect placed upon him by people that actually understand what they are talking about. Chuck's writing just made sense. Nearly perfect songs.

But I've been reading a lot about this guy, lately. He had a very relatable mentality and was super intelligent and thoughtful in his interviews. I think that probably had a lot to do with why the culture of death metal is so cool. I remember being afraid of the two death metal kids in middle school, but they turned out to be the only two people I had to hang out with for quite a while, and the one dude with the gnarliest shirts was a real sweet kid, and was super mature. I figure he probably ate up Schuldiner interviews back in the day.

    Chuck was the GODFATHER of death metal. He is still influencing millions of kids today to start up death metal bands. Yeah, Chuck is known for death metal, but when Jason McMaster talked about Chuck liking Dangerous Toys, i was like WTF??? Chuck idolized KISS when he was a teen. That was different, though. Dangerous Toys is hair metal. Kinda hard to imagine Chuck digging them, but Chuck liked Watchtower, which was Jason McMaster's band before Dangerous Toys...This past July, another death metal band lost it's longtime vocalist, as Brett Hoffman of Malevolent Creation passed away from colon cancer. I am bummed over that! Like George Fisher said, we think we will live forever, especially in a death metal band. This was obviously an old interview, as George talked about Hanneman's arm that got fucked up from that spider bite...this was before Jeff died, about five years ago from cirohsis of the liver from drinking too fucking much.

    Im not gunna lie first time me hearing of chuck and this band Death i agree it is sad me and probably millions of other people are just now hearing of this man and his music.. on the contrary i do like metal but im more of a classic rock, blues, oldies, classical music type of listener but i do occasionally listen to metal all types and when i do i always enjoy my listening experience..

      True he was growing as a musician, song writer and composer on each album. Was a surprise and treat to witness. I remember getting the news in Dec 2001... I was still in high school and in long hair and tien up jeans with all my metal head friends, the hardest one that never shows emotion started crying first near the water fountain where we hung out. Then we all got the news and it was dead silence with the rest of my and my friends with tears rolling down our faces... I will always get emotional listening to Death or Control Denied

    What this just one of many metal heads is infuriated by is how he needed a brain surgery! Insurance blows! I suffered cuz of it but how various claimed,"We're going to help his life saving surgery!" Chuck was, is, always will be such an amazing humble man! I'd gladly give What's left if it'd arise him! A Perfectionist as well as so kind and sweet... Not to mention DEATH metal as is only genre named after this amazing Man! Praise Chuck!
