Most TRT clinics will prescribe HCG along with test-c. HCG stimulates your natural testosterone production so that your body is still producing its own. Its also exceptionally rare for someone who comes off of trt to not be able to produce their own testosterone again. In almost every case, you go back to producing the same levels you were producing before.
When you're on TRT therapy you take a anti estrogen pill and you also take a pill that helps maintain your free testosterone production. For me it costs about $1100 for 5 months
When your testosterone is already very low, you aren't taking any risks at all; there are only benefits. After 50 years, it can really only be a benefit.

Don't know why so many people make such a big deal over HRT. The vast majority of 40 yr old men have low testosterone. And virtually all 50 yr olds do. Most could probably benefit from HGH supplementation, too, but that's a lot more expensive. But like Joe said, go to a doctor for that kind of thing! Don't try to wing it.
That's not actually true. The average 40 year old is going to have normal levels for sure, and the average 50 year old won't be low enough for TRT. My levels were higher at 38 than in my 20's, very good levels, not a lot higher at 38 but a little. My dad is 73, his test levels are close to 700, and I don't think he's even heard of TRT. He doesn't even lift, but he does jog. I think if you legitimately checked out the average levels by age you would see that even at 50 very few people would have testosterone low enough to be prescribed by a doctor. Now 500 testosterone levels are not optimal, and those are about the levels of the average 55 year old, but a doctor won't put you on TRT unless you're below 300, which is rare at any age.
