Patti Smith: Way back then, until this- simply AWESOME, AMAZING, this lady then/later just ROCKS! Terrifically written song, delivered then/later POWERFULLY, does IT get any better then this? AND to have the superb Sarah McLachlan doing the sublime piano intro, then later instrumental harmony. So GLAD I've lived in the BEST MUSIC times EVER!!

@@patrickoshnock6925 The soul is a metaphor for the personality of a consciousness. Electricity is just a name mankind gave to a force of which we have no idea where it comes for or why it even exists. People can agree or disagree on the meaning of a word and that too changes over time as society changes. So, yes the soul is an old word that has religious baggage. Today we use the word "consciousness" because it more scientific. However, both essentially mean the "essence" of a person and both cannot be proven even exist. Good day and goodbye.
This is one of the world's most beautiful women, one of literature's most honest and intriguing voices, one of the most exciting performers on the stage... yes, you could say I've got a vibe for Patti, and it goes back to her first show in Detroit, at the Masonic Temple. Her band was preceded by Fred Sonic Smith's band Sonic's Rendezvous, which I had followed at Second Chance, a bar in Ann Arbor, and before then, when I was in my teens, I saw him many times with the legendary and genuinely revolutionary MC5. I've seen Patti many times and it's never anything less than a spiritual experience. And her book, "Just Kids," shows she doesn't need a band or a stage to be at her best.
There is a spot in the R&R Hall of Fame for this wonderfully beautiful influecer who has been doing it forever it seems; well, since we were kids anyway. What passion!
It's a good song but we live in a fortunate age and place where there are thousands of gems of songs which I'd consider to be 'perfect' as well, such as 'Heaven'-Bryan Adams, 'Father Figure'-George Michael, Alone-Heart, and I could go on and on. Let's just be grateful we celebrate music in our culture since there are evil nations and religions out there which ban music and punish those who listen to it or create it. Oh, my good gracious. Yes, she is very talented and I sense that she is a wonderful person. BUT she is one of the most beautiful women in THE WORLD.........
It's an interesting story. BTN was one of the first songs (if not the first) Bruce started work on for the Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions. He played around with it on and off for a couple of months but saw it as "just another love song" that didn't fit thematically with the direction Darkness was headed and shelved it. Jimmy Iovine was an engineer on Darkness and was producing Patti at the same time. He asked Bruce if he could take it to Patti if Bruce didn't intend to use it and Bruce said go ahead. Patti finished off the lyrics and got a hit out of it and Bruce regularly played it during his epic 78 tour as well. Win/win.
I saw her live a little while back in Gateshead (UK) and she was stupendous; I've been watching bands for nearly 40 years and I've been enthralled, excited and moved before- but I have never experienced the emotional charge she elicits from an audience. She's special.
