I saw in concert back in 2012 at Crystal Ballroom in Portland. I told myself I was going to meet her two week before the concert. She came out in the audience and came up to me and put her hand out, I got to tell her, I love her book Just Kid!. I also saw her back when she was touring with her Easter album.
Jimmy is right, she toured with Mr. Dylan and a Great tour that was! She even shot me the sneering look of Oyy one night in Philly and if you have to get "that" look from anyone, who better than Patti Smith! And I'm glad she changed her mind about poets because she performed some of her spoken word that night. Just Sublime! Ps. No, I wasn't doing anything creepy or wrong to get the look. More of what I didn't do. Pss. Also thanks to her, some very important art work in Italy was saved from being ruined forever to fade away!! Then sometime after folks around the world cried tears of joy and strength for and to her that day she sang a song for that friend of her's. God Bless that woman!
I HIGHLY recommend checking out Patti Smith's Substack. It's casual like she's chatting with friends; sometimes from home, sometimes from the road. Videos, stories, photos, writings, readings, show-n-tell, old works, new projects, book talk (what's she's reading, what she's writing, books, art, and artists that were important to her throughout her life... and most often just checking in at the end of her day before retiring for the night.
Is there anyone on this planet with more effortless charm? Is there any woman in show business that defies you to dismiss her because of her age? She inhabits her being so completely that you cannot impose your own limitations on her. Somehow Patti Smith has figured this whole whole equation out for herself and we can only hope to live by her example.
Her book was recommended to me years ago by one of my idols and I have to say, it’s by far my favorite book I’ve ever read. It’s called ‘just kids’, even if you’re not a fan of her, her storytelling is incredible and it’s pretty much about music in nyc in the 70s.

I probably would have said (and later regretted) the same thing.
This might very well be in my top 10 favorite interviews. Absolutely adore her. 🖤🖤🖤
She's my Hero!
What a modest and warm person she is.
I LOVE PATTI
She’s amazing omg her energy
Just love this woman she marches to the beat of her own drum - unchanged !!
It’s called ‘just kids’, even if you’re not a fan of her, her storytelling is incredible and it’s pretty much about music in nyc in the 70s.
babymoonlight x I agree awesome book
I have the book and the audio book, she reading the book on audio! EXCELLENT!
DIDN’T WANT THE READ TO END!
I know a singer songwriter that met Dylan backstage at festival n he said Dylan is weirdest man on the planet lol
Funny to see Jimmy deal with a real person
