Not anymore, now you place it in the first position and the green light under AUTO turns on.

@@darconner you can adjust the speed on auto though, that is what that switch is for, you can make the auto more or less sensitive to rain. Took me a while to figure it out, that is what the owner's manual is for.

I used to have a countryman 2018 S with jb4 tune , and jonh cooper works tuning kit, omg that car was amazing. As same time i got a mustang 2019 convertible 300hp... and i prefer 100 more the mini than the mustang. Muuuuch more better in road, much more fun. And quality is no there un ford...
@@mbmpablo3631 Yeah, Mini has a lot to offer, especially with their recent diversification and focus on performance. I definitely have an affinity for muscle cars too, but the Mini takes the cake in its class when it comes to the driver experience.

André Blackaller really? Mine was pretty reliable, all you have to do is keep up with the maintenance, which if you know what you’re doing, shouldn’t be a problem

Thanks guys , because of your great review I bought this JCW for my wife and she really likes it. We both find it peppy and fairly good handling with good brakes for a small SUV. If it only had a manual transmission it would be so much more fun. Quality of materials and fit and finish is typical BMW. The gas mileage has been excellent. It amazes me that 301 horsepower can be had from a 2 liter turbo and these numbers were unheard of only 10 years ago for a road car in Canada. Keep up the great work and wonderful reviews.
Pro Tip - Slowly spin the cup when putting it in the holder when there's high tension on the clips. It slides in a lot easier.

I'm starting to think I'm the only person who prefers manually adjustable seats rather than power seats
I prefer manual seats. I don't need electric ones because I'm the only one that really drives my car. Just set it once and let it be.

The more electrical shit in a car, the more things to go wrong, especially when it's so unnecessarily needed, lazy humans.
My wife is a foot shorter than me. Every time I drive her car, her electric seats take sooo long to slide far enough back for me to get in. Manual seats ftw.

For the wipers, you press the button at the end of the right control for auto (green light will light up). The +/- scroll changes how often it wipes in auto.

Listen I had the 2019 countryman S all 4 and it was an amazing rush on the summer streets, and also a powerhouse in the snow. The look on muscle car owners when you outperform them is cute 😂 I can’t WAIT to see how this bad boy handles
so much of this.. i'm at 2,000 miles on my 2020 JCW Countryman and yea.. i've been next to a few muscle cars and a few raptors and surprised them.. the exhaust alone gets em ;)
One thing that I'd love to see that I think would be beneficial would be, when you list the horsepower and torque numbers for a given vehicle, to also provide the weight. Power numbers on their own don't tell the full story. The power-to-weight ratio paints a more complete picture of a vehicle's potential performance.

They give you 0-60 time and the power, which tells enough about the practical performance for most people.

I'll be honest. I actually like how the turn signals work, that it goes back to the normal position. I got used to it really quick, maybe I use my turn signals more often then other BMW drivers.. =D

Hi Jacob & Yuri, big fan from Australia love watching your videos and ironically your 2018 Countryman JCW helped us decide to buy one! You’ve asked for comments on certain features, I have answers! Intermittent wipers ? Press the button at the end of the stalk, it’s different to BMW being the first stage lift of the wiper stalk. Onto the direction of rotation of the iDrive wheel , you get used to it. Looking at the iDrive before you select helps, it took about 6 months ! And yes I have a BMW X5 G05 (liked that video too) and a Mini. Lastly iPhone 11 Pro and Apple Car Play does have gremlins. I requested a reloading of software from the dealer so I will see how we go. Frustratingly we have a pro max which doesn’t fit in the wireless charger. 2018 to 2019 interior is fairly the same but the gear shift selector has changed. Keep up the great work!
After seeing your 2018 JCW review, I was jazzed to get one, but then I knew they were (minor) changing up, for 2020. This solidified my initial thought, on the 2018. Thanks for the review.

There's a button on the wipers stock, that you have to press to activate Automatic Wipers. And you adjust how fast it engages by regulating this rotating knob on the front. That's how it works in my Countryman :)
I got three Minis, Cooper S, Paceman S ALL4 and a convertible. I soooo wish they would build a Cooper S with ALL4 and 300 HP it would be a riot. Great review guys as always, proud your from Canada!!!
The wipers are kind of weird but I've got them in my '15 MCS. It makes some sense once you get used to it. The actual movements up and down for the stalk are set speeds for one wipe, intermittent, slow and fast. When you hit auto on the end of the stalk the dial on the stalk adjusts how sensitive it is to liquid on the windshield. The higher the more it'll try to wipe off, the lower it'll let rain pile up more before it activates.
UPDATE: Just realized this morning when I had to use my wipers that there's in fact no intermittent setting on the stalk. There's only low, high, and once along with the auto setting. The auto functions as the intermittent I guess.
My 2012 S Countryman ALL4 also has the same lag from a stop, I believe from what I've read on forums is that it's the AWD system taking one extra second from a stop (not including launch control) to decide where to send power to get you moving, not to mention the added weight
I like the Clubman’s design a lot more mostly for the Union Jack tail lights.
I just got a used Clubman and the interior (door and dash) looks better than Countryman IMO.
And I remember the standstill lag in my old X1, drove me crazy! The manual trans in clubman solve it but doesn't comes with JCW

What I like about the new clubman/countryman is, that you can use the full tachometer...in other cars you have 20/40 units left for RESERVE. Mini puts raceflags on the side and lets go! :D
I used to own an F56 mini JCW with protune exhaust and a few other upgrades including a tune, but I also work for BMW, and I never got used to the alternate wheel scroll. Every morning I would jump out of my car and be in one of the BMW’s and I’d go the wrong way with the wheel. Then after all day of being in and out of cars and finally getting it correct I’d jump into my car and get it wrong. Annoying but at the same time cool and acceptable! Ones mini ones bmw and it helps differentiate the brands! Enjoyed the review content is amazing as always!
Should have reviewed the JCW Clubman instead, same drivetrain in a lower, sleeker, faster mini wagon package. Plus it's even quirkier with the double rear doors.

@@robertdaone I'll take a slick little wagon over an overgrown "compact" crossover anyday. The Clubman has cleaner lines, a smooth Mini profile and better handling from its low-slung chassis.

@@robertdaone woah I thought you were joking but I guess a normie stumbled in these comments. "Who still wants a wagon?" Looking ass. Wagons are superior to crossovers in every way imaginable except the reason that nobody actually uses or needs, extra ride height.
The intermittent wiper thing exists in my 09 mini clubman, you have to use the side button on the stalk without twisting the rear wiper setting. I mostly just click around until i get it haha.
There's a good aftermarket 3D-printed solution to make the key smaller. I did it with my 3 door JCW. The bulk of the circle is completely useless (not housing any microchips or anything)
I bought a 2019 because of your 2018 review. I tested the 2020 this year and fortunately, even with less power I prefer mine. Reason why is more crackle and pops, along with other reasons. Also, the intermitent wiper thing, it's actually an auto detect mode and the roller is to set the sensitivity.

The iDrive controller confusion is so real. I had a '17 M3 and '16 JCW together for most of this year and I never got used to it. I ended up changing the coding for the Minis iDrive to be the BMW skin just so the controller would work in the same direction because it drove me insane. Also, the auto wiper function is the button at the end of the stalk.
You have to click the button on the end of the stock for auto wipers and the twisty bit is the intermittent adjustment.
I don’t really like minis. I’ll never buy one or even drive one. But I’ll watch any vid of any car you put out. You guys are that good!

You should try the DTE Pedalbox. Easy install and it absolutely eliminates that annoying throttle lag.

You have to push the button on the right stock to have auto wipers turn on. The slider thing controls the sensitivity
I literally own a 2019 330i Touring AND a 2019 JCW 3-Door Manual. I have NO issues with the infotainment between each. But I do have issues with the BMW steering. Last year ever the touring will be here in Canada so I had to get my dream dad wagon (sans RS6) while i could...but ya, goddamn steering. Everything else is cool though! Now back to the review!
I have a BMW X1 and the MINI Hardtop 2D. The opposite directions of the scroll wheel for the info system is super annoying. Also the wireless carplay skips on the mini too. But not enough to bother me that much. Great video guys!
it took time for these to grow on me. ive only seen very few but so curious to drive one.
I remember the standstill lag in my old e84 X1, drove me crazy! End up putting a tune and sprintbooster to help a bit. Don't understand why. My Clubman S maunal doesn't have this problem but they no longer offer

I own a BMW X4 and a Mini Copper and agree with idrive issue. I normally just hit menu to get to where I want!
There is a wheel at the windowwipper stock, thats controling the auto speed mode, or the manual speed mode of the wippers. But the lowest settings is sometimes still not to low. And just a free rant, but the extra window blind at the driver side is an option, wich is driving me crazy because on my previews lease mini it was there. (Mini 5-door driver)

For April 2019, the Mini Cooper Countryman had above average reliability for Consumer Reports data. For November 2019, they dropped it to below average reliability, based on newer owner surveys.
I wish it jad the union jack taillights like the other models.

I have a 2019 jcw and a new iPhone 11.....CarPlay is almost unusable, constantly drops calls and clicks on audio. It’s so bad I’ve stopped using CarPlay and use Bluetooth only. I’m soooo glad you mentioned this. Thought it was just me !!!!!

Others have probably mentioned, but the adjustment on the wiper is for the sensitivity of the water sensing auto wiper mode.
Starting to look like the smaller models may never get a manual if they do get that sweet 300hp motor, which is a true shame. Still, the manual with the current JCW hardtop engine is more than enough to leave a smile on your face when you blast down some twisty roads with the exhaust flaps open. :)

No issues using the iDrive controller in the Countryman when switching from my BMW. The circular setup of the infotainment in the Mini makes it so they had to reverse it. It wouldn't work visually if they had kept it like the BMW iDrive setup.

Late to the comment but as F55 MINI owner you press the end button on the wiper stalk for AUTO and the green LED lights up 👍
Just a quick note about changing radio stations: you only have to click the ok button to select a channel if the car is equipped with a HUD, otherwise you just hit the up or down button and it will cycle through the channels as expected. Just a weird quirk of the brand.

As someone who bought a 2009 Mini Cooper S brand new back in 2010, I can wholeheartedly tell you to never own one without a warranty. Driving it around was probably the most fun I've ever had with my pants still on, but it was also the single most unreliable car that I've ever had. Granted, the R56 generation had a French motor slapped into a German-owned British-built car, so I should've known better than to expect it to be reliable. Needless to say, I became good friends with my local MINI dealership's service department over the years, and I immediately traded it in at the end of the factory warranty period. I actually convinced the salesman that I traded it in with to not buy it for himself. Last I heard from him, they had sold it to some little old lady who consequently had to dump over $3k into it when it broke down and left her stranded a few months after buying it.
Never again.
Had an '07 Mini Cooper S that we bought used in 2014 and it was a POS. Too bad because it was a very fun car. Now we only lease Minis.
Had a 2010 Cooper S for a while before it got totalled (not my fault!) - it was a super fun car and usually ran great but we did have problems with our dealership because there was an engineering fault with the timing chain that required servicing every few years and the dealer wasn't allowed to charge for the repair because it was a known issue to Mini. The dealer would try to make us service EVERYTHING but the timing chain so they could charge parts and labor. Not cool. I now have a 2015 Cooper S from a different dealer and I've had no issues so far - though I've only owned it for a little over a year.
My father also owns a 2017 Cooper S convertible that's had absolutely no issues since he bought it (new). I think BMW has finally figured out how to make em right (I hope)

The one thing that's completely unnecessary and you don't even do it right anymore, it's the Box Test. I mean, there was room for at least a couple more back there...other than that....GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS!

My household currently has a 2018 330i xdrive wagon and a plain old 2018 Countryman ALL4. The dial thing is pretty annoying and I doubt we'll ever adjust. Also, CarPlay in the Countryman seems a bit more stable for me after upgrading to iOS 13.2.3.
Will you also make a review for the 2020 Cooper? With the new 8-speed, i'm curious to know how this thing drives.
