Oliveira vs Makachev is a gift not only because it’s the closest things we’ll have to Tony vs Khabib, but it’s a clash between 2 styles where neither will dominate the other. This will be a fight and an absolute war.
I actually wouldn’t be surprised to see either one dominate. This could be a one sided fight either way. Islam will probably control Charles for a dominate decision or Charles hurts Islam and subs or kos him

Most casual thing ever. Charles embarrassed tony and stopped the 2 guys who ko'ed tony. And Islam is not as good as khabib. This is like a weaker version of khabib vs the guy who would mop the floor with the Ferguson ancestry
Decent reference but Tony and Charles are nothing alike, Tony was known to be taken down pretty easily and while a great submission artist he didn’t have he same fear on the mat Tony was more pressure on the feet and would melt your face with elbows and punches
Charles while good on the feet he doesn’t possess the same unorthodox style of Tony

I preferred the Stipe vs DC trilogy honestly. Cain vs JDS was essentially one flash KO in the first minute and 50 gruelling minutes of domination in the remainder. Stipe vs DC was a highly competitive trilogy with decisive results in all three fights.

I know it’s not exactly much of a bend in style for either fighter, as we all expect to see some techniques from high level kickboxing on display. Maybe I’m wrong, we shall see.

What I really like about this Oliveira vs Makhachev fight is we can see a little bit more of how jiu jitsu is going to respond to combat sambo in a MMA setting. Lately the books will give all favor to these credentialed combat sambo guys (and rightfully so) so beating the books will come down to anticipating what style will have the best response to the current dominance of combat sambo.
What makes Oliveira's BJJ different is that its tailored specifically to MMA, which is great for fighting against any grappling style. Its not pure BJJ which tends to get nullified easily in an MMA competition. On the other hand Combat Sambo is essentially MMA with many Judo techniques incorporated, after all Sambo was essentially Soviet/Russian Judo. Makhachev as we all know is an excellent Samboist. This is easily the most anticipated MMA fight this year, and one of the most anticipated ever. This fight will be one for the history books.

This match will give us the answer. Olives is a 3dr degree BJJ black belt. Makhachev is an international master of sport of Combat Sambo. I looked it up, only Fedor is ranked higher. To this day I have never seen BJJ do anything against Sambo. We shall see.

It's just straight out of a comic or movie. You can even invite causals to watch and maybe explain a little of what's going on and they wouldn't be bored because it's just so fascinating.
The taller skinnier BJJ artist who's slowly working on his striking and setting up his submissions with takedowns vs the shorter bulkier knock out artist that has a wrestling background and exceptional submission defense. And the first round was everything the fans hoped, but the finish of the fight was also the cherry on top. The BJJ Artist KO'd the KO artist. I mean if that's not an MMA headline, idk what is.

Call me a casual but I think Khabib vs Conor was honestly one of the best matchups period. One of the most explosive and unique strikers vs one of the most dominant wrestlers, and the fight itself was a hell of a lot of fun
If I recall right Conor got absolutely dominated in that fight. Maybe grappling is more effective than striking after all.
The matchup was arguably the most anticipated in UFC history, especially taking into account the PPV buy rate which was the highest of any UFC event to date and I don't think that number is going to be surpassed anytime soon. I had friends who didn't follow MMA talking about Conor vs Khabib. And yes the fight itself was a lot of fun, with Khabib stealing Conor's fans 😂

You could put pretty much any one of Bob Sapp's fights on here, roided out monster mindlessly flailing his arms around vs not that.
Its still crazy he managed to beat Ernesto Hoost (a GOAT Heavyweight kickboxer) twice using just his sheer size and physicality as well as actually having heart. When Bob Sapp actually tried to win instead of throwing fights, he often proved that yes, size does matter.
I think an honorable mention should go to Rasheed Evans and Forrest Griffin. It was a highlight of TUF, a title match against the first season champ who was a dog of a fighter beating Shogun and Rampage versus Season 2 Winner undefeated prospect coming off wins over Chuck Liddell, Bisping and a draw with Ortiz. It’s was a very interesting and monumental fight.

For real, the only other person in the conversation with Stipe is Fedor. And there's a good argument for either of them. But nobody else. Cain was great, I can see him at #3, right up there with Cormier, depending on whether you consider him HW or LHW, Francis is working his way up the ladder too. But Stipe and Fedor are the top 2, without question.

@@Bayliun Fedor was well along into his run when Cain was gaining steam though. It was pretty widely accepted at the time that Fedor was the GOAT. Maybe if what you mean is that people were saying Cain was making a run at that, sure, I can see that point. He was certainly on that trajectory, and a lot of it was outside of his control, injuries and all that. But sorry, "coulda been" doesn't count when we're talking about the GOAT.

The way you guys talked about Henderson Vs Silva makes it sound like Silva outgrappled Henderson after Henderson got him down. Henderson got an easy win in that first round, then if I remember correctly he came out trying to fight on the feet in the second, got rocked, dropped, and then choked out.
False. Henderson burnt himself dominating the 1st round and Silva just outgrappled him to getting a RnC.
