People say this BS every next console generation. Sony and Microsoft never do anything innovative at all the most innovative we got from them was from the 7th generation. Everything onward is just an improvement not a revolution. The PS6 will just be a more powerful PS5 paired with PS VR3 nothing more or less.
I mean, they did some really cool stuff early on, but not much in a while, we can always hope they do something new and innovative, but I would tend to agree with you, it will just be a better iteration on the PS5, and they will claim that Ray tracing is theirs and how great they are for it, kind of like how they did with their hard drive this gen, which was for real, just an early adaptation of what Microsoft had already developed for direct x 12 🙄🙄

Hardware is nothing without software (games). Ps5 is great but it's just a more powerful ps4. I'd like to see new innovations other than bigger and better looking games. I want better npc ai, I want more input options from me as a user like my voice to be able to talk to characters etc. VR really needs a big push.
Yes. Give me more complex AI. The most fun I have with games lately is after I beat them I play with the AI, Days Gone you can lead the various factions against each other, playing with AI mods on Fallout now. All of these are very basic, vision, hearing and fairly scripted responses but it's still fun manipulating the AI to see what it will do.

x86 compatibility with their back catalog is a more important target for them. The ARM µArch would need to be more than 2x the IPC of Zen 2 with a similar perf/watt increase in order to make it worth it.
We haven't seen anything close to that tech demo they showed us on how powerful the next gen is... That tomb raider like game.... Spiderman 2 looks great but it still looks like it could be on a ps4, there's no leap yet..... Wukong is the only next gen looking game

But based on what your eyes can see it doesn't appear that way because visuals are currently on diminishing returns where you need much more power from more little details. Of course in our minds we are also comparing the best most optimized PS4 late titles with early PS5 titles. At the end of PS5 games will probably be more optimized and show bigger difference than they do now.

With the upcoming desktop APUs, there should be a DDR5/6 with GDDR7 combo ram sticks. Yes, it IS added cost and likely a significant one, but with current GPU pricing trends it sitll might be more affordable for the end consumer.
The CPU can't use that. Intel and AMD would have to design a CPU with a memory controller capable of using that memory, and then you would need a mobo designed with memory slots wired for it.

Series S isn't holding anything back, ffs. Developers are not building games based on it as a baseline. They are using PS5(primarily) and XSX as the baseline, and then scaling Series S versions down however they need to.

I'm much more interested in PS5 Pro, leaks say it will have equivakent performance to 7800XT which if true is a huge upgrade from 5700xt/2070 Super level of performace the PS5 has now.
They're already scheduling for 2028 fab time. They haven't settled on parts, I'm not disagreeing but they're actively working on it, they probably were in parallel to the PS5.

If the research is done, then it's more likely that the tooling and production line is on course for PS 5 Pro. Be pretty rich, if a year, year and a half sees release of PS 6. THAT will give a very narrow window for PS 5 Pro.
They have to build dev kits. Test the hardware and develop games and online systems. They could revise the hardware. I think 2 years at least probably 3.
I am a bit worried about this effort of using AI to create more realistic behaviors and overall settings for the games. IMO there is a thing as too much of a good/"good" thing.
As long as it makes things more immersive it should be good. Thats basically how gabren defines fun, its the environment responding to your choices. And he also hates boring realism.

Do you know if a 4080 Ti will still happen? Because now it seems more likely again because NVIDIA will apparently sell a special 4090 Version for China to evade the ban that was imposed there so they technically could use the AD102 chip again for a 4080 Ti. Consoles need to be affordable in order to attain huge adoption. And that adoption is critical to the health of the games industry as a whole. If you're unhappy with the necessary limited specs of consoles, THEN BUY A PC.
I can see the next gen consoles being better options than low to mid tier gaming pc’s. They’re pretty close as is. For the price of a 70/7000 series gpu you can plug n play a console. If APU’s keep getting better I can see future builds being micro atx console size units. AMD moving away from the enthusiast high end market and Nvidia seemingly prioritising the high end, big fast flashy builds aren’t going to get any cheaper unless you buy second hand.
Many of the games I thought I was going to like I don't. I still find my self compelled by games not on PS5, like Mario games for example. I wonder if anyone else has that experience? The hardware on the PS5 is great, it performs well, but the games don't captivate me as much, so it's almost like, what's the big deal. Is it just me?
Certainly the games aren't like they were in previous Playstation because Sony focus on AAA and censorship rules cut out some quirky or different games BUT is also because players like yourself don't actually really put the effort to get interesting games they can find on a platform to play other the most superficial obvious titles like Spiderman or God of War. Even with Nintendo you only went with Mario that is an obvious thing. First the title with that little robot that comes with it is amazing. Many ignore it. Have you tried Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5? Have you tried Kena: Bridge of Spirits or Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Final Fantasy 16 or Returnal? Or other types of titles that Switch can support like Tales of Arise, Baldur's Gate 3, Stray, Rollerdrome, Deathloop, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Hell Let Loose, Deep Rock Galactic, DIRT 5, Everspace 2, Aliens: Dark Descent etc. No matter what platform you have there are more games to try than time really so i have idea how people like can't find plenty of things to try on any platform.
Some people still playing on PS4 and now a PS6 coming. I think people are just going to stream games from their smart TVs or cheap media players. Cloud gaming is everywhere now.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the PS5 Pro launch with a dedicated XDNA AI accelerator(NPU) at this point. This would give Sony invaluable data to work with.
I hear the PS5 pro is going to be the graphics power of a 3070 I'm willing to bet that ps6 is going to be a 3080 TI or 4070 power but I think it might be too soon to call it we might see the GPU power card in 2026

Based on the past and current chip situation I think PS6 will change the gaming forever in the way that it will be produced like 1 unit per month so Sony will sell about 100 pieces in its entire lifespan, before PS7 comes out with its full 5 pieces amount. Board games will have its new renaissance.
Reconstruction is already basically standard on consoles by now. Which was inevitable. We'll have to see about frame generation for next-gen, as it's currently not great for turning 30fps into 60fps.

Just like computers I expect the same upgrade times. Every 8 years sounds about right. Just cost is stupid ridiculous. Should never go over 600 here in Canada. That is about 450-499 in USA. But I understand with technology becoming better it cost more to get it into the systems. I just hope it never gets over 1000.
Unless they change the design to that of a box, I will be skipping a generation for the first time since the PS1. Here's hoping to a more practical and angular PS6.
It better be a big leap, both graphically and also feature wise. They won't be releasing for another 4 years at minimum so something special better be on the cards. Graphically basic path tracing should be the minimum the new consoles should strive for.
It will not be as big a leap as last time. It basically cant be. Suggesting it will be shows great ignorance of what's going on at the moment, the longer and smaller process node updates, the heavily increased costs, etc. There's no reason whatsoever to think the next gen will be some newly precedented leap, especially if we're only talking like 2027-2028. Maybe we could get something a bit better if we can go to 2030. Either way, we're undoubtedly going to go through another very long cross-gen period anyways, so it will be quite a while before the new consoles can properly be used anyways.

I've never lost anything as far as the stupidity of this current generation is concerned. I stopped buying games long time ago but occasionally buy cheap physical games. No single game this gen is worth purchasing at full price. Everything we've been getting is just tantamount to a Ps3 remaster.

I kind of wounder what the diffrance would be even. A ps4 pro have say 3 times the gpu preformance of a ps4. A ps5 have lile 3 times the gpu preformance of ps4 pro. But for the cpu and drive preformance it was a huge leap. .here is where I kind of think.. there is no diffrance. There will not be a simular boast in cpu or drive preformance.

@@dante19890 I know I'm just joking. I have a PS5 and Xbox and never use them. If the game I'm interested in is available on PC, I always default to PC version. PS5 pro is ok in performance mode in games that support 60fps. They sell exclusives like Horizon with amazing visuals that look nothing like that in performance mode which you'll want to use because the visual fidelity isn't worth playing at 30fps.
PS VR2 has tapped out PS5 with even its double-A games needing to implement reprojected frames, and essentially being so basic graphically (lower texture detail and internal resolution, no ray tracing etc). PS6 couldn't come fast enough for VR. But then, we really need more AA/AAA VR games and it seems like first party have abandoned it (again).

All of this is a money grab IMO , if you don't have the games that ACTUALLY make use of the hardware. Im tired of hearing development speaking about the hardware hindrances while creating previous gen ( sometimes games of the gen before the previous ) of games with subtle differences as well as load / response times. Then the double and triple dipping from series of said consoles. It's sad that the consumers don't see it or have THAT discussion but it's not surprising. Very few call out the shady business practices , half-baked games with DLC content that should have been in-game at launch , still having bugs and glitches and now taking away ownership of games through the cloud and no physical game copies. I like to have ownership in what I play and spend my time in. This is now moving towards the Netflix , Amazon Prime and Hulu of gaming. Sad times we live in where the threats ( shady business practices ) aren't discussed , while people are STILL having console wars as well as the discussion of what's better between console vs Gaming PC. For me the os5 has some major issues that need fixing in the next gen , graphics power in the ps5 is the equivalent of a 5 year old card , it badly needs more horsepower as bottleneck issues are seeing titles limited to 30 frames and absolutely shouldn’t use mobile equipped rdna 3.0 but instead work on a higher graphics quality 4080 + equivalent to allow developers more power and home gaming experience to be desktop equivalent for at least 5 years without compromising on the 120hz 4k that’s appearing now from ces 2024 on tv and monitors , and storage options a single m2 is s huge issue and needs to support multiple has storage over 2.5 Ethernet as well as two storage devices easy access plug and play upgrades as well for achieving and recal when needed on the fly, and absolutely shouldn’t need a internet connection to run , it’s a console people buy these as an easy access to games without the need to permanently connect especially since many people still are on sub 20mbs connections
Major issues? Consoles are always limited. That's inherent to them because of their form factor, power draw, and cost restraints. A PS6 will not change this situation relative to what will be available on desktop, and will be 'bottlenecked' depending on how hard developers want to push it. There is nothing stopping every game right now being 60fps if developers wanted them to be. But as always, developers do not just use more power to push framerates, but also graphics and scope/ambition. And if they push hard enough, then games on PS6 could easily be 30fps again. It has nothing to do with the hardware, it's a developer choice. We've had 60fps games since the fucking 80's.

Consoles can’t innovate in terms of hardware components beyond what is happening now in PC world, they are playing catch up. But to be honest PS5 Dual sense controllers were very creative and this was the main reason i bought PS5 although i have a good PC.
I'm betting the PS6 will have a detachable disc drive, I'm really hoping it can be fully backwards compatible PS1-PS5 with disc based games

I'm much more interested in PS5 Pro, leaks say it will have equivakent performance to 7800XT which if true is a huge upgrade from 5700xt/2070 Super level of performace the PS5 has now.
They're already scheduling for 2028 fab time.
They haven't settled on parts, I'm not disagreeing but they're actively working on it, they probably were in parallel to the PS5.

They have to build dev kits. Test the hardware and develop games and online systems. They could revise the hardware. I think 2 years at least probably 3.

I can see the next gen consoles being better options than low to mid tier gaming pc’s. They’re pretty close as is. For the price of a 70/7000 series gpu you can plug n play a console. If APU’s keep getting better I can see future builds being micro atx console size units. AMD moving away from the enthusiast high end market and Nvidia seemingly prioritising the high end, big fast flashy builds aren’t going to get any cheaper unless you buy second hand.

Many of the games I thought I was going to like I don't. I still find my self compelled by games not on PS5, like Mario games for example. I wonder if anyone else has that experience? The hardware on the PS5 is great, it performs well, but the games don't captivate me as much, so it's almost like, what's the big deal. Is it just me?
Certainly the games aren't like they were in previous Playstation because Sony focus on AAA and censorship rules cut out some quirky or different games BUT is also because players like yourself don't actually really put the effort to get interesting games they can find on a platform to play other the most superficial obvious titles like Spiderman or God of War.
Even with Nintendo you only went with Mario that is an obvious thing.
First the title with that little robot that comes with it is amazing. Many ignore it. Have you tried Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5? Have you tried Kena: Bridge of Spirits or Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Final Fantasy 16 or Returnal?
Or other types of titles that Switch can support like Tales of Arise, Baldur's Gate 3, Stray, Rollerdrome, Deathloop, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Hell Let Loose, Deep Rock Galactic, DIRT 5, Everspace 2, Aliens: Dark Descent etc.
No matter what platform you have there are more games to try than time really so i have idea how people like can't find plenty of things to try on any platform.

Reconstruction is already basically standard on consoles by now. Which was inevitable. We'll have to see about frame generation for next-gen, as it's currently not great for turning 30fps into 60fps.

Just like computers I expect the same upgrade times. Every 8 years sounds about right. Just cost is stupid ridiculous. Should never go over 600 here in Canada. That is about 450-499 in USA. But I understand with technology becoming better it cost more to get it into the systems. I just hope it never gets over 1000.
Unless they change the design to that of a box, I will be skipping a generation for the first time since the PS1. Here's hoping to a more practical and angular PS6.
It better be a big leap, both graphically and also feature wise. They won't be releasing for another 4 years at minimum so something special better be on the cards. Graphically basic path tracing should be the minimum the new consoles should strive for.
It will not be as big a leap as last time. It basically cant be. Suggesting it will be shows great ignorance of what's going on at the moment, the longer and smaller process node updates, the heavily increased costs, etc. There's no reason whatsoever to think the next gen will be some newly precedented leap, especially if we're only talking like 2027-2028. Maybe we could get something a bit better if we can go to 2030. Either way, we're undoubtedly going to go through another very long cross-gen period anyways, so it will be quite a while before the new consoles can properly be used anyways.
Path tracing is a huge ask even with PT rendering software improvements coming down the pipe in the intervening years.

I've never lost anything as far as the stupidity of this current generation is concerned. I stopped buying games long time ago but occasionally buy cheap physical games. No single game this gen is worth purchasing at full price. Everything we've been getting is just tantamount to a Ps3 remaster.

A ps4 pro have say 3 times the gpu preformance of a ps4. A ps5 have lile 3 times the gpu preformance of ps4 pro.
But for the cpu and drive preformance it was a huge leap.

I have a PS5 and Xbox and never use them.
If the game I'm interested in is available on PC, I always default to PC version.
PS5 pro is ok in performance mode in games that support 60fps.
They sell exclusives like Horizon with amazing visuals that look nothing like that in performance mode which you'll want to use because the visual fidelity isn't worth playing at 30fps.
Maybe we'll finally get native 1440 at 60fps LOL.
PS VR2 has tapped out PS5 with even its double-A games needing to implement reprojected frames, and essentially being so basic graphically (lower texture detail and internal resolution, no ray tracing etc). PS6 couldn't come fast enough for VR. But then, we really need more AA/AAA VR games and it seems like first party have abandoned it (again).
All VR needs reprojected frames, going back to 2012. Even the new Quest3 does it.

Im tired of hearing development speaking about the hardware hindrances while creating previous gen ( sometimes games of the gen before the previous ) of games with subtle differences as well as load / response times.

It's sad that the consumers don't see it or have THAT discussion but it's not surprising.
Very few call out the shady business practices , half-baked games with DLC content that should have been in-game at launch , still having bugs and glitches and now taking away ownership of games through the cloud and no physical game copies.

I have a very tough time believing the PS6 will still use Zen 2 cores along with 30 Cu's/WG's of Zen 3.x. No way. Literally impossible. They would lose the next console gen by so much they might be outperformed by Nintendo's new hardware. I'm thinking more like 12/24 with 40+ CU's of Zen 5.x, 24GB of total memory, most likely unified along with an AI chiplet capable of at east 150 TOPS. Probably twice that and possibly on a separate chip altogether.

For me the os5 has some major issues that need fixing in the next gen , graphics power in the ps5 is the equivalent of a 5 year old card , it badly needs more horsepower as bottleneck issues are seeing titles limited to 30 frames and absolutely shouldn’t use mobile equipped rdna 3.0 but instead work on a higher graphics quality 4080 + equivalent to allow developers more power and home gaming experience to be desktop equivalent for at least 5 years without compromising on the 120hz 4k that’s appearing now from ces 2024 on tv and monitors , and storage options a single m2 is s huge issue and needs to support multiple has storage over 2.5 Ethernet as well as two storage devices easy access plug and play upgrades as well for achieving and recal when needed on the fly, and absolutely shouldn’t need a internet connection to run , it’s a console people buy these as an easy access to games without the need to permanently connect especially since many people still are on sub 20mbs connections
Major issues? Consoles are always limited. That's inherent to them because of their form factor, power draw, and cost restraints. A PS6 will not change this situation relative to what will be available on desktop, and will be 'bottlenecked' depending on how hard developers want to push it. There is nothing stopping every game right now being 60fps if developers wanted them to be. But as always, developers do not just use more power to push framerates, but also graphics and scope/ambition. And if they push hard enough, then games on PS6 could easily be 30fps again. It has nothing to do with the hardware, it's a developer choice. We've had 60fps games since the fucking 80's.

Consoles can’t innovate in terms of hardware components beyond what is happening now in PC world, they are playing catch up. But to be honest PS5 Dual sense controllers were very creative and this was the main reason i bought PS5 although i have a good PC.
