There really needs to be a (new) game exclusively based around Vietnam, the potential for weaponary is incredibly expansive from modern automatic carbines to Czech kar98ks.

2 things to note on the Lazy Dog
    1. It saw limited use in the Korean War even before its introduction in Vietnam,
    2. It wasn't phased out because it caused gruesome, indiscriminate injuries (which it definitely did) what actually happened was around that time the US Military realized that large troop formation warfare was becoming more and more a thing of the past, and the guerilla warfare of Vietnam convinced them the weapon was no longer worth the effort to produce.

Agent Orange and the other Rainbow Agents was probably the most devastating of the weapons. 600,000+ dead and 4 million suffering from mild to very severe adverse affects from exposure. The birth defects caused to the unborn children of parents who were exposed is horrendous.
The US troops also suffered from exposure. One source states that 400,000 US personnel have either died from diseases or developed disabilities that are linked to their exposure.

    • @blackhawk7r221

We have no clue of the number of people effected. The VA identifies a blanket list of symptoms then veterans self-report claims. Same with burn pit claims. Same with Desert Storm Syndrome. Everyone is trying to make a claim decades after the fact, so accurate numbers are impossible. But no doubt, defoliants injured thousands.

      @joecaner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

The US Army is all about its objectives.
US personnel are a secondary consideration, if that.
Their deaths during hostilities are built into their calculations.
Visit any homeless encampment to gauge their concern afterwards.

Yes I just commented on a guy my step dad worked with. He served in Vietnam and had to walk through the areas they cleared with agent orange. They were mechanics at the same company and his tool box had about 15 different prescriptions in it he had to take because his health was so destroyed from exposure to agent orange.

The first time ST Idaho used them, they actually hit a massive ammo dump destroying a huge cache of NVA ammo in the middle of the jungle by pure luck.

A cool fact about the “Daisy Cutter” is that in the beginning of the War in the Middle East, the US dropped a few as a scare tactic to try to avoid unnecessary deaths from ground troops moving in. A group of Royal Marines saw this and radioed their superiors “The yanks are dropping bloody nukes!” It was the first time a British soldier had seen a Daisy Cutter in action

By relocating them into an area where they need to clear a path or trail, they then smack shovels, pots, basically make a lot of noise, then run far away from there. I was a Vietnam era child that was born in 1971. All my relatives and neighbors were Vietnam vet so I was kind of like a military brat I was fascinated with the stories about the war etcetera. My Uncle Dave according to him was responsible for more deaths than anybody I've met who went to Vietnam. He was an aerial Observer who dictated where and when and what type of bombs to be used on the enemy. According to him he was responsible into the thousands but never personally killed anybody. He didn't even go into the plane when they were dropping the bombs. He said he could call an airstrike from field artillery Naval artillery or from the air his choice. He told me some great stories🎉 my favorite one is when he had the biggest bomb he could have dropped carpet bombing on this area. He explained that there was a battalion or whatever there and when they went back there was nothing except holes. He said upon further inspection. Zooming in on the photos he could see that they were digging in on the bottom of the impact crater of the bomb. He said so I ordered the same identical bombing run with the same bombs. He said our bombing was so accurate that they landed in the exact same spot and you could put the negatives over each other and they were identical. Wow🎉

Here's one from the Vietnamese: The RPG-2 rockets back then had a contact fuse positioned only at the tip, and even if the rocket is stopped midway with the fuse intact, it won't explode. The solution to defend against those rockets? Chain link fences with holes just smaller than the widest part of the rocket. The rocket would just go through a hole and get halted by the fencing, falling on the ground safely. Those chain link fences are still called B40 fences (B40 is the Vietnamese designation for the RPG-2)

The tree crusher reminds me of the Sidewinder from the old Thunderbirds show.
The Sidewinder was a massive prototype walking fortress, it's weight caused it fall into sinkhole. The walker took massive damage in the fall causing a fire which put the crew in a very dangerous situation. If you know anything about the Thunderbirds shows you already that they found a way to save the crew just in time.
Ps: I don't have to warn you for spoilers for an almost 60 year old show.

The tactical tree cutter seems like something you'd see in that 2009 Avatar movie. Or the Jungle cutter from an Indiana Jones movie. Or even that Leveler machine from the first Ferngully movie. There is something fascinating about machines that can carve out a road within mother nature's domain.
