Haven't watched your videos for some time, and when I opened XBOX One video notification, I wanted to write "Long time no see, Soren". I was a little perplexed when I saw 2 unknown guys at your desk, but after watching/listening them for 1 min, I already like them ;) They are.. hmm, funny and somehow relaxing. Hello Sorin, I'm new to the world of electronics, and I had a few doubts regarding safety. I would like to know what is safe and not safe to do with a board/power supply. For example in the video you checked the voltage of the big capacitor using the multimeter directly on the cap's terminals, right? Isn't that kind of dangerous? Also I'm confused because repair techs always say to take the battery/power supply out first before you work on a device but a lot of times you have to work with the current cable plugged in. Isn't it the same?

So I did this and got the 12 volts output from my multimeter on the 2 pins on the internal power supply. So this would mean it’s not the power supply right?

My power supply is making a loud buzzing sound I took it apart and the noise is coming directly from the power supply will replacing it fix the noise ??
If you check the pigtail and get 12 volts on every black does that mean the power supply is good?
Do u alz know what could be the culprit i replaced the psu on a xbox one x and it still just flashes power light on then off when i press it
just changed the paste on mine now it turns on then off could that be a power issue?
My Xbox One X smells like burnt plastic from the vent where the power supply is located. Customer service told me it's oke as long as the console runs ok (which it apperantly does). Although I think it overheats a bit in 'instant on' mode. What could it be? the Thermal paste in the processor? It sounds stupid but it's not cool to smell like that in a 4x3 metre room.
This was a really interesting video. My question is my Xbox one x turns on and I get picture on the tv, no errors showing on my tv. But it does shuts off on like a few seconds after it’s turned on.

You forgot to put the rubber pad back which was under the heatsink (diode was under the heatsink as you though)
What tells you the xbox looks fine taking 4 amps? Could be defect or shorted processor?
5-6 amps its normal for an xbox/ps4

Luigi, he was distracted because he was adjusting the power supply pot... :-) But, Sorin is like that.... it seems that he can repair *everithing*... lot of people says he's "dodgy"... but what he's doing is simply GREAT... teaching like he does is simply wonderful and eye-catching! I think I should learn alot by his humanity, other than electronics...
He does what's useful for his shop.... nothing more, nothing less...
For me he's a GREAT person.
He could kill that transistor by puting 12voltage on the ass side. (he changed direction, where voltage normally appears / should flow) Not all supplies can handle it.
Sometimes if power supply produce voltage from begining to end of chain- Then something (ic, chip, transistor, diode, etc) can be destroyed if you switch it off and put voltage only at the end of chain (using external power supply), because you are forcing then, the voltage to flow in other direction.
Yes sometimes he really scare me whenever he “randomly” try to inject voltage in some circuit ... most of the time I’m sure he knows what is doing, sometimes looks dodgy but I got used to it and electronic circuits seem to handle it fine anyway. Keep on rocking Sorin.
@@ictrepairs6963 Anyway I didn't understand where the fault was... he also tried to short-circuit the opto, but it didn't work... maybe the culprit was already the smokin' blown-up transistor, but once he removed it... the power supply worked well... (Oh, well... WE CANNOTE DENY, he's lucky!) I'm not saying that there will be no protection, (as he says there's the fuse) but ... where was the fault? :-)

It seems like all fixes have to do with either removing and discarding or shorting and disabling bad components.

Can some one explain to me what the actual failed componant was, and what he did to fix it ?
He removed a safety protection device (bc807 sot23 marked 5BW) put in by the manufacturer and bypassed it instead of just replacing the failed bc807 (literally a 5pence device)
I have a Blu ray player that turns on by itself and get stuck at the Sony logo screen but wont go any further. I have unplugged the ribbon cable that connects to the power button module but yet it still turns on. What do you think the issue is?

A laptop power supply is running all the time . It is like that as well with xbox one X. the original has standby mode.
37:17 haha you've forget to say about sparks, smoke, damage of xbox's motherboard and fire (less possible but there is very small chance) (before the fuse will blow up)

Hi all! There's a problem with xbox one x. I have a 4k monitor, but in games the picture is a bit soapy and the font in the menu shows pixels. Tried to change the hdimi cable and rented the xbox for repairs under warranty, but to no avail.
What should we do?
Sir i have a question on laptops side ... the main power supply 19 .. you usually removes the mosfet which have the problem. . What if you leaved the mosfet and make a short between drain and source what will happen? !

you can do it on the 2 first MOSFET but not on the other

it is clearly obvious that they didnt want a simple repair man to repiar that psu ,if fuse blow it would so easy to fix ,they want to make it complex enough to push you buy new part or better new xbox.
and it isnt dodgy because probably that machine will be dead till that time or will end of its service time.
