So heartbroken to hear this, his voice is fresh clean, so young, and his artistry is on older side, at least PhD. Thank you

Best American tenor of the 70s - 80s. Rivals any imported tenors.

      Forget Jerry Hadley

Jerry Hadley was a fine tenor, but I would classify him as lyric. Neil Shicoff was more of a spinto.

Nobody close to him when it comes to a fully committed outpouring of true emotion in his performance. This was simply outstanding.

Except Corelli who was his maestro. Corelli's the most emotional tenor.

SHICOFF1 yes. I prepared him in this and was with him at ROH when he did it with Bruson and Scotto. And we remain fast friends forever.

Mr Shiccoff, It has been my loss that you have been unknown to me for so long. My operatic un-awareness amazes me in that have found many new (to me) EXCELLENT artists on the internet. You are the most exciting discovery I have made, for which I thank God, I have long appreciated the tenor voice above all. You are definitely neat the top of my favorites list, headed by me sentimental favorite , Jan Peerce. I had the special opportunity of lunching in Minneapolis with him and is wife in 1960. I was awed at the opportunity to have done so. He sang Edgardo that night and, of course, it was a GREAT performance, Mr Shiccoff (and others) i'm sorry for the length of this comment, but i seem to have needed to say it. Thank you so very much.

Franco Corelli ha voce più drammatica ed acuti più possenti. Mi perdoni l'intromissione.

@@martinmariani8974 I do agree, but Shicoff was probably Corelli's greatest student, just as Corelli was in turn Lauri-Volpi's greatest student.

100% better than any tenor today, but you can hear even at the start of his career that he has the middle voice too far forward. After he covers the top is splendid. But as he got older the tone became frankly nasal, which I thought compromised the role he made so much his own, Eléazar.

Totally agree with your analysis here. The middle is too masky, but anything above the passage is wonderfully balanced.
