I dearly hope Hasse gets the recognition that he deserves. No offense to Vivaldi, but it seems unjust that Hasse's operas are so rarely done, if ever, while Vivaldi seems to be the new Handel nowadays. Perhaps, could it be because Hasse's works seem to be so expansive? I have yet to encounter a Hasse aria that clocked within 6 minutes. Anyway, I'm so going to give that old "Cleofide" recording with Emma Kirkby another chance now. Thank you, wienerfr, for these wonderful Genaux/Hasse arias!!!
Händel and Vivaldi’s music imo have their own colours that make them extremely distinguishable from your average opera seria composer’s (I’d add Francesco Gasparini and maybe Alessandro Scarlatti to that list, but I do find them to be less unique the the above mentioned composers). Hasse’s overal language to me seems like a slightly upgraded Vinci, Leo, Feo style Neapolitan music.
