Easy way to fix "failed to connect to serial port" , "programming failed, no response from bootloader", solid blue light, and most other problems. Use the same process for the naze, but don't
change baud rate and download firmware for naze.
Steps:
-disconnect board
-short bootloader pins
-open up stm flasher
-set baudrate to 256000
-download firmware hex file
-flash
-un-short boot pins

You are the man, man! I accidentally bricked my DYS Elf trying to update it to the wrong firmware. Not only have you helped me fix my microkwad, but now I also have D-shot commands available and can flip it back over after crashing upside down!

I hoped so mutch that it work at my FC but still not working as it should. Red light blinking slowly 4 times follwed by 5 fast flashes of the red led. What could it be?

Woke up this morning happy as I remembered how to re-flash my boards using the correct pins; thanks again. Subscribed.
Worked perfectly! Saved me a good $30 in ordering a new flight controller - took me a while to save up for my wizzard 220 and I tried hooking it up to work with my turnigy 9x - that worked --- to an extent - fast forward another 5 months and I bought a flysky FS I6 so I could use the S-bus instead of trying to make it work with just manual hookups to each channel (never got the auxiliaries to work properly in the first place with my 9x...the adventure continues and I have yet to maiden the thing - been just fooling around with 1s quads - they're lots of fun) had to recalibrate the sticks because channel 1 on the FS I6 kept drifting to the left so I didn't want to risk it even ordered a new direction gimbal (useful as a spare anyways) the recalibration did work although it will probably still drift... somewhere along the way as I was trying to program the SPracing f3 board in the wizzard i think I disabled the UART1 which I think also disabled the USB connection and afterwards the board wouln't connect to betaflight... tried reflashing it in there - couldn't get a response from the bootloader -after I followed the instructions here it worked first time with the flashloader. Thanks for the help mate!

i think i had flashed the wrong firmware (instead of spracingf3, i did stm32 f3 discovery) and ended up with ""programming failed, no response from bootloader" (i think so). and your video solved the problem. thanks and keep up the good work.

Took me 2 hours of trying to find out what to do and nothing worked. Then I found your video and it worked
Excellent, just one little stumbling block, before you select your hex file, open the drop down box on the right and enable 'Hex' else it won't recognise the file type. Default seems to be 'en'. Worked brilliantly with two bricked boards. Thanks.

OMG I've been trying for ages to connect the boot pins... and I was shorting the two pads near the word boot, not the two holes at the end of the rail.... thank you.

Nope this still doesn’t pick up my port. Betaflight closed and everything.
Betaflight, device manager and Zadig all pick up my FC as COM3, but this program only brings up an empty tab for ports no matter what I do.
Do you have a solution ?

Thanks! Saved my bacon, as I mistakenly flashed my SPracing F3 with Betaflight 3.1.6 for SPracing F3 Evo ... thought I was screwed, but downloaded the STM flasher and was able to load correct FW. Even though I had a solid blue LED, jumpering the BOOT with a pair of tweezers, I apparently wasn't getting good contact to possible middle layers of the board. So, I soldered a wire jumper in and was able to get the Flasher program to work (prior to soldering in the wire, it would time out. Thanks again. Thumbs UP for sure! Cheers!
Bill Somrak how did u get the GUI flasher thing to work? all it seems to do is install a driver. I see no application or exe file to run
When you install the program mention above, it should make a folder in your startup menu called STMICROELECTRONICS. Inside that folder will be a folder called FLASHLOADER. Inside that folder are 3 entries: a Command line program (for DOS), a program called Demonstrator GUI, and an Uninstall file. Run the Demonstrator GUI. You may have to install some STMicro drivers 1st, in order for this to work. I'd already installed those on my computer (Windows 7 - 64bit) long ago, so the Demonstrator GUI program fired right up. Hope that helps.

Even after that on my NAZE rev6 i am getting "No configuration received within 10 seconds, communication failed" and no led 's beside solid blue turning on
You can get older versions of clean flight to work in chrome easy with win7 not so fun with win 10.

I used a jumper. hooked up the usb. port name wont work like you said. but it still wont show a com port if I open and close clean flight.. am I missing a step?

Betaflight recognizes com 5 but windows calls the board "unrecognised device" instead of stm32

STM32 will not show in ports of the device driver. Only in USB devices will it show STM32 Bootloader. I am at a standstill. Nor STM32 Virtual Com Port in my Zadig. Any ideas? Thanks.
Though this didn't work for me, it lead me down the trail of finding the STM32 ST-Link Utility, and flashing through the debug port with an ST-Link dongle left over from the h8 days.. they are around $5, and potentially works like this on most boards with SWCLK/SWDIO/RST pins..

hi, I did everything you said, but I just got the same, "Programming Failed, no response from bootloader error again." I can keep trying it over and over again, but do you have any other suggestions?

Dino Zuzic You only have to gold down the button while plugging in the fc to power. Once plugged in it should switch to bootloader mode and you can let go

Broken Drones how did u open the STI GUI flasher. mine just installs a driver, not seeing an exe file
legend! thank you so much have been driven nuts trying to get a flash to INAV this worked a treat! PS> had to download and install CP210 driver and stm 32 driver (as inav/cleanfligh/betaflight) before the i could get the updater to run. Also my board had to be in 115200 baud.
Hey Man. I have followed all this steps I am using a mac I have a solid green light on my cc3d openlpilot board. But when I try to connect to beta or cleanflight it says no response from bootloader. ANy suggestions. Is it because I am using mac?
Were you able to download the configurator on mac? I didn't know they had made the firmware available for mac
@@sohansunku1016 i had researched that mac already have the drives downloaded so dont need any external downloads.

when trying to boot jump it the first time i connected 5v and gnd.. blew a diode. i replaced the diode and its ALIVE! YES!!
now i have to fix my SPRacingF3 when the new chip arrives... It died in a crash.... same day i got it...

Also select "Full chip erase" in STM flasher if your board after flashing still has a flashing red LED.

Hi, im finding when i dont have the board in bootloader mode the software will find it via the com port. However when I do have it in bootloader mode the software can't find it in the drop down menu! Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you
when click in the demonstrator the first time next I get "No response from the target, the Boot loader can not be started. Please, verify the boot mode configuration abd the flash protection status, reste your device then try again." My FC is showning only one solid blue light so it should be in Bootloader mode. Can someone help me??

It now hangs up losing communication half way through set up . Do you have any suggestions . Note board was fine before flash . Thank you
Are you able to connect to the board, or does it stop and give an error?
It will connect and let me go through set up but about 7 to 10 min blue light goes out and the board no longer respondsto any commands and get the infinite rolling circle until i discnnect and reconnect and still the same .
Normally one would just get another board but it flew well and my local hs had hammered me good for it like 75 bucks trying to no waist my cash and save it

Wayne Wilder That's really odd. I'm not sure what is causing the problem, but when stuff like this happens to me I usually just reflash and update to the newest version of betaflight.
Can't find sp racing hex file as it's 6 yrs later so how I find them now please downloaded all files lbut don't find com port Cheer's
In the chapter where you select the Target. There is no target in my list available!? PID:0422, BID: NA

Does the boot pin need to be shorted every time firmware is updated? I learned the hard way my first attempt, but totally forgot when I updated earlier tonight... but it said success so...? Lol
And I had the connection issue at first but found the fix right on the first page in betaflight... I noticed 3 links to different additional software. downloaded the USB driver one and bam, problem solved.

Sohan Sunku I flashed through betaflight. And had both problems you described: the USB driver betaflight provides fixed my connection and I used a small wire to short the BOOT leads on the FC. Without the wire I just couldn't flash it no matter what.. now a few months later I reflashed again in betaflight but forgot the boot so I didn't open the quad or select any options.. it just went, said success so idk lol I'm still new and learning
Mike Peterson I'm not too familiar with the actual reasons behind it, but betaflight normally enters bootloader mode without you needing to short the pins. Also, if you've ever having driver issues I would recommend the impulse driver fixer. It fixes everything lol

Are you sure the board is in boot mode? I honestly haven't messed with demonstrator in at least a year and have forgotten the process, but when I get home I'll try to help troubleshoot.
Yes, the led is full blu, and so is in boot
could this be done on a mac? i may have bricked my furibee 32bit f3 board and now it wont respond, would it be the same procedure you described?

Thanks for the great tutorial! I tried twice but still wasn't able to connect via BF(failed to open serial port msg) although COM port was visible. I then re-flashed the .hex file a third time, selecting Global Erase, which worked! This may have wiped old configuration that prevent the fc to talk to BF (as in my case I disabled uart1)

one more question. I did get the F3 not the EVO hex.. but why not the EVO? I thought I had the EVO. but really I'm not sure what I have. . it does say F3 on the board
daytonpyro I think that the evo has a micro sd slot on the bottom, whereas the regular has nothing. The regular f3 is also very popular and has many clones, so it's likely that that's what you have. I'm not completely sure what causes different boards to require different hex files, but it might be because of different electronic layouts of the boards.
ok thanks mine does not have an SD slot. do I need the magnetometer? mine by default is turned off but i went into set mag_hardware = AUTO and It still wont show up in cf
daytonpyro I don't think that you need a magnetometer. I think that's for maintaining heading, which is useless for angle or rate mode.

Are you sure that your board has enetered into boot mode?
flash loader shows COM1 and then after i click NEXT it loads a while and says then : No response from target, the bootloader can not be started. please verify the boot mode configuration and the flash protection stuts, reset your device and try again. i dont know what i can do anymore...
