What’s sad is, it’s actually a pretty good game. I prefer it to COD if I’m honest, but Ubisoft management ran in into the ground by not pushing marketing and content in the first 2 seasons. Most people I spoke to literally didn’t even know the game existed.
Marketing was not the problem. Even closing the game Rubin talked about how proud he was of their total downloads and the amount of people they got to try the game on launch. It simply didn’t retain players. Also I bet you don’t have it downloaded right now and can’t even hop in for these last six months lol
Over 15 million people tried the game, with 5 million of those coming launch weekend. If over 15 million people try your game and you struggle to maintain a playerbase, you got issues. Most game devs would DREAM of having that many people play their game
I don’t mean marketing purely in the “get players to try the game” sense, but marketing with an online social media presence is also really important and can help retain players, while also inviting new ones in. Obviously there were other problems with net code lag (again, likely due to Ubisoft trying to rush the game out the door), but to say marketing wasn’t an issue, just isn’t true.

It had 'potential' amidst its issues, but potential is a grace period that'll only last for so long. Enjoyed the beta but the honeymoon phase ended for me within a week of its full launch. Too many generic guns, bland cosmetics, and performance issues.
Ubisoft years ago ruined another great game with tons of potential due to terrible development choices and it eventually shut down. That game was *The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot.* I don't blame you if you've never heard of it since it didn't receive much marketing attention, but long story short, I've loathed Ubisoft ever since. It's very depressing to be reminded of. I was one of the best players in the game too, and even _the_ literal #1 player at times.
I dont understand ubisoft anymore all old projects have like no content ever and all new projects either suck or get killed instantly I don't know what all their resources are going to because everything produced is filled with cut corners.
@@Anomaly-uj1sxUbisoft is experiencing a financial collapse right now. 2024 was a year of multiple big releases and despite that they have been bleeding money this year. If AC Shadows isnt a major commercial success we might well see the family purged and some form of venture capitalist or media conglomerate like vivendi take over. Trust me, for all the criticism people have of ubisoft, both of those options would be much worse.
Xdefiant lost its hype when it kept getting delayed for me. I wanted it so bad, and then suddenly I got nothing. (Then the finals took me but that was a pleasant surprise)
Anyone who doesnt want SBMM fundamentally doesnt understand how PVP games work and I'm glad none of them work in the industry because its such an obviously awful take
This is what happens when games are made as a product and a job, and not a passion. Nobody feels compelled to play it again. Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, Space Marine 2, people want to play those again when they get home. For me, what gets me to play a game a lot is the people I can play with.
just because you're rolling every game, doesn't mean most people are getting rolled every game, you're the minority. SBMM just does not work in the slightest, and only hurts the game. maybe it's more appealing to braindead casual players, by that I mean those that genuinely do not even use the slightest of brainpower while playing, because that means they get rewarded for that, but that's not what a game should strive to be, and it's not required for a game to be successful. if xDefiant was literally just a bo2 clone, I am certain it would do well. my experience with bo6, after playing modern call of duty for the first time since I stopped buying the games after bo4, is that it doesn't matter how well I play, it doesn't matter if I even try, the optimal way to play the game, is to turn your brain off, hipfire only, and get 1 kd every game anyways because the sbmm rewards you by placing you in similar skill lobbies. I've been playing cod ww2 recently, and genuinely even thinking about touching bo6 multiplayer makes me just wince. I'm not even a great player, I have below 1 kd on cod ww2, but the skill based matchmaking rewards me for just not even thinking, and that's the audience activision wants. xDefiant fails because it doesn't try to capture the audience that actually cares about using their brain even slightly while playing video games, and I think it could have been successful if it just copied old call of duty, instead of being just a lesser version of black ops 6, but without the sbmm, it doesn't even have scorestreaks for christ's sake!
xdefiant was not even close they missed the mark on 1000 different little things that made the moment to moment gameplay piss, with no real rewarding feeling to stay on and keep playing. game had 15 million players, its not like it had bad marketing, it was just bad gameplay loop, and because of no SBMM the casual player base was the ones who flocked to the game, and in classic fashion, casual players didn't play much, didn't make many if any in game purchases, casual players still kept leaving due to "sweaty rick rolling games" even with no SBMM. revenue wasn't breaking even, game announces its shutting down. their only selling point was to casual players with the no SBMM, and it turns out that its far worse for the audience they are trying to appeal to.

Yea wasn't on steam plus had linear maps + overpowered sniper rifles that's a recipe for disaster.
a miss opportunity to release xdefiant on steam
To the surprise of no one, they lied
I Love XDefiant so fucking much.
Ubisoft years ago ruined another great game with tons of potential due to terrible development choices and it eventually shut down. That game was *The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot.*
I don't blame you if you've never heard of it since it didn't receive much marketing attention, but long story short, I've loathed Ubisoft ever since.
Era of slop is finally ending.
just because you're rolling every game, doesn't mean most people are getting rolled every game, you're the minority.
I think what did it in is COD is actually decent this year.
The hit detection in cod now is getting exposed its bad 😂
I had more fun with this game than bo6, the sbmm in bo6 is so atrocious i cant play more than 1 match
Welp time to drain as much content as he can before it goes
I don't believe for a second sbmm is good for the game. It simply makes it so you can't have a fun relaxing game.
you're as bad as flat earthers 😭
Sad I even like the game
Game was too sweaty on launch and overtime the game got worse compared to the earlier betas
shoker
Xdefiant wasn't close, it sucked
xdefiant was not even close they missed the mark on 1000 different little things that made the moment to moment gameplay piss, with no real rewarding feeling to stay on and keep playing. game had 15 million players, its not like it had bad marketing, it was just bad gameplay loop, and because of no SBMM the casual player base was the ones who flocked to the game, and in classic fashion, casual players didn't play much, didn't make many if any in game purchases, casual players still kept leaving due to "sweaty rick rolling games" even with no SBMM. revenue wasn't breaking even, game announces its shutting down. their only selling point was to casual players with the no SBMM, and it turns out that its far worse for the audience they are trying to appeal to.
We do not care🤣
It was awful anyway
So sad way better than cod
To No One's surprised it was garbage on release
lmao
the game was ass in my very subjective opinion. just plain ass.
not a good take
sbmm is not what gets you to keep playing the game unless you are a crybaby lets be real. just get good
And that’s the biggest problem this game had. No offense to you but ubi sponsoring you what a bunch of idiots. No wonder this game died
Wannabe Asmongold ! Stick to overwatch dude, even tho you are a big nubi
the greatest problem with xdefiant was that it was made by ubisoft
Ass creed: Blacked is going to flop, they can go all in on it all they want, it's already dead before arrival
🎉🎉 who’s ready for Ubisofts deserved layoffs lol
