Are Professors Rich? (Professor Salaries, Building Wealth, And Getting A Doctorate)

- Some professors are rich and some are less well-off. What I'm going to do is talk about how you actually build wealth as a professor.
The first starting point for building wealth is your income. Do professors get paid well? There is often significant variability across the disciplines in how much professors make. Some make less and some make more.
Do professors get paid for 12 months or 9 months? It is most often on a 9 month salary.
Do professors get paid during summer? It depends on what they do, and what is their focus. If they focus on research, they often get grants. If you like to teach, then you often get summer teaching gigs. If you like to do consulting, then some professors will consult in the summertime.
How do you build wealth as a professor? The wealthiest professors do the following:
1. They are intentional and think about their finances.
2. Professors who save and invest every day tend to build wealth. A good rule of thumb is 10-15 % of your gross income.
3. Professors are more wealthy if they have invested for 20-30 years.
4. Professors tend to build wealth if they are generous with their time and energy.
