Don't Forget To Live Your Extra Life.
Thank you Brad, I am in my 60's. Did this haircut on myself. I cut 16 inches of my hair, had to use a tape measure it was to long for a ruler! You gave me good solid instructions that I could follow at home and wow I really love this hair cut. This is better than I have had with most stylist. Thank you so much for your help. You are such a sweet young man. Keep your heart beautiful and thank you. God Bless you!
That’s so fun!!
I wish I could see a pic!
Does this give you a blunt haircut in the back or shaped like a U in the back?
you must be the most beautiful 60 something year old lady then ☺
@@devkine Awwwww what a nice compliment!
Okay, I really hope you get read this comment because this just changed my kids life. She is 15 and has level 3 non verbal autism. I have tried to take her many places over the years, no one has been able to get a good cut. She won't sit still, and gets scared. So I have been cutting for hair for about 13 years with very few trips where I'll take her to the salon and we try again to no avail. I have attempted to give her shape but she doesn't sit still enough for me to gain any type of skill. So I always end up doing a straight cut across the bottom that takes me days to fix lol. This technique is a game changer. I sectioned her hair. Quickly put the back in a pony and did the front. I knew she'd never leave it on her face while I did the back, so I put the front in a bun real quick to get it out of her face. I used my comb to measure the 8 inches I cut off. Then set the back up the way you said and used her little nose as my guide to keep it straight. Used my comb to measure and boom. The fact that she needed like 10 breaks and moved the whole time and I didn't have to restart because it was tied in place. It was perfect. My multiple day experience took 20 minutes. And everything was pretty much even. I had 2 little spots just like you. I seriously don't think anyone will understand my tears right now, but I'm crying. I've seen you talk about this technique forever and her starting high school next week made me finally decided to try! Idk thank you hun, you explained it perfectly
❤
🎉🤩
❤ I'm glad you got a chance to see this video to help you with your daughter's hair ❤
God bless your daughter and you ❤
I love this. Mom to a 25 yo aspie
Well Brad, it's now January 2023 and I'm 76 yrs old and just did your butterfly cut and it worked beautifully ,Thankyou for smart videos that show us all how to cut our own hair when necessary, and in such a humourous way.Have a great New year xxxx
awhh
Damn u must look really pretty with it
We ❤ u and your new haircut I’m sure it looks great on you 🥰😘🫶🏼💗
Now it's May 2023 and I'm going to do this. Thanks for this review.
I always wanted to get THIS haircut but last time I just entered a random hair salon and she said I couldn’t have the haircut because I don’t have thick & enough hair to get layers. I followed your tutorial and it came out PERFECT! This is what I always dreamed of❤️
Wow! Who says that?! Happy you got it
Same girl. Always ended up with half assed layers 😢
They say the same to me every time I ask for layers! While everyone else tells me it’s thick. So I’m just nervous to try it
@@jademichaels5553 I have thick 2c curly hair and did it
Happy with results
Sounds like they didnt wanna do it and wasnt meant to be but so happy for you girl!!
OMG! I just did the butterfly cut at home, all by myself and dude!!!! This look is exactly what i have been trying to get for years, and from many stylists!! No one got it right! This is my new go to cut! No more $85 hair cuts for this girl!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!
I could never get anyone to do this either. Love it!
I was coming on here to say the same thing. I love it!
I'm right there with you girl, got the layers I needed, the body, and the framing just like I've wanted. Im excited I found his video as well.
Can you tell me how much to cut off in the two steps? Does it have to be the same amount in each case? So if you cut off 10 cm from one braid, you also have to cut 10 cm from the other? My English is not very good and I translate the text here with Google Translater.
Same! I just spent $200 at my salon for some babylights and this cut… but I came away with shy little layers that you couldn’t even see. So! I followed this incredible tutorial and now I have the gorgeous, swingy, voluminous layers I always wanted!! ❤🎉 Gorgeous haircut. Like you I am saving money and not going to the salon …I’m going to invest in a great pair of shears and save myself hundreds. Sooo happy with this cut!!
I know you'll probably not see this but in case you do,I just wanted to say thank you. This is the second haircut tutorial of yours I've followed & the both came out perfect. I have lupus (among other things 🙄) which has progressed alot this year. It's Made me gain weight, swell everywhere &just overall feel like an old hag to the point I hadn't looked in the mirror for over a month. When I did,I cried. I also noticed that my hair needed cutting 😄 So, remembering my successful wolf cut attempt,I looked to you again & found this. It once again came out beautifully & I actually found myself singing today. Thank you for giving me some happy back ❤️I can look in the mirror again because of you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@Deadgrl 77 I know I'm just some random stranger on the internet, but I can relate well to your issue. Please look into Dr. Ken Berry. He has a channel here on TH-cam. He has videos on lupus specifically. He and other doctors in his sphere have literally saved my life and freed me from years of debilitating pain and many health problems. I don't mean to sound preachy or snake oily, and what they have to say may go against everything you've ever heard, but believe me when I say, this time last year I was on deaths door and now I have much of my health back and I feel 20 years younger. Read his comment sections. God bless❣️

Gurrl...I think you should change your username 🤐💜💜
Lupus is so tough! I know so many people that suffer from it. Wishing you well ❤
We love you. Stay strong 💪
Brad is literally one of the best content creators. He pumps out so much content regularly and yet I can't think of any video I didn't enjoy. It's always fresh, fun, and new and that's gotta be flippin hard to pull off. So much love and respect for Brad ❤
This is really sweet, thanks babe
Agreed!!!
@@BradMondo would this work with a under cut 😅
I have a toddler, a baby and a broken ankle. My hair was so bad I could barely comb it. I followed the instructions and gave myself the best haircut I have ever had!!!! My curls bounced up like I have never seen before Thankyou! Thankyou. No going back
I notice you have a side part in your Pic. Do you still? I can't go middle part but I need a trim lol
Who else wants to see Brad put on a wig and make a tutorial that way? I love these tutorials, and my hair looks great now thanks to another one of your videos, but it is so much harder to this on your own hair!
I was going to write the exact same thing! 😂
Why?
@@susanmetz9892 to see how to actually do these styles on yourself. 🙂
100%
That’s my biggest stresser. I can do some things with my hair and other things with other people’s hair. I need a happy medium between being able to work on my own head and work on someone else’s.
THANK YOU! I know you won't actually read this, but here goes....I am a middle-aged woman who has gone through HELL the last 7 years. I have been unable to afford to get my hair done for three years. My daughter did this for me. Not only did it turn out AMAZING, it also gave my daughter and I some great bonding time (The "liquid courage" we indulged in beforehand didn't hurt either!)
I feel so much better about myself! Sorry no pics, I'm old and have put on SO much weight in last 2 years. I LOVE YOU and your tutorials. Cut off 6 inches by the way! 😁
Maybe Brad won't read this, but a lot of others will (like me)! Thanks for sharing. And I'm sure you are beautiful no matter how old you are or what the scale says! Stay sassy! 😉🥰
I’m so sorry you’ve had such a hard time. I hope things turn around for you!
Please remember that you are beautiful. Always. No matter the age, no matter the weight. ❤
Love this. ❤
Sending you lots of love I hope things turn around for you ❤
This is amazing!! I have 3 daughters that I only wish I could share this experience with!! I'm smiles for you rn!
I’m sure you look amazing! Thanks for sharing! ❤
Okay Brad, seriously. I'm a mom and wife in a super small town in Wisconsin. This tutorial helped me SO much! You are so easy to follow, your directions are super simple and super easy to grasp. You break everything down so everyone can understand. THIS butterfly cut was amazing and the best thing I've done for myself. I wish I could thank you in person and have you work on my hair personally, but, this the best I can get and I'm so happy you share your knowledge with people like me who are on a budget and can't afford to go to the salon. From a mom in Wisconsin, thank you for being a generous person who wants to help the people of the world feel better about themselves through hair styling. You make a difference, so thank you! This tutorial helped me more than you know!
Aw I love this 🩷 so happy you feel beautiful!
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes will have eternal life in Him. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. The one who believes in Him is not judged; the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, so that his deeds will not be exposed. But the one who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed as having been performed in God.”

@@kimberlyjennings618So gracious of you to compliment her and leave an encouraging Word.
Did you know that it has been said that v.15 has been altered and the word is 'obey' and NOT believe. If that is true, it is powerful! Because everything the Messiah taught was from the first 5 books of the bible. And practically no body in the church obeys the commands and celebrates the feast days that are listed there; It's like the church thinks it above the law, it's crazy!!
I know I will diligently search this out till I find proof and I hope you will too!
Have a beautiful day!
I’ve used this video twice to cut my own hair. I keep my hair long, so the first time I only took off 4-5 inches off the back, and the latest time I cut of 8-9 inches off the back. Everyone is shocked that I did it myself because it looks so good, so I always tell them it’s thanks to Brad Mondo! By the way, the trick to doing the back pony without having to over work your arms is to stand up, bend over like you’re going to touch your toes, then let gravity do the heavy lifting while you comb out the bumps and put in the ponytail. I wear my long hair in a top of the head bun when I work so I can fit it under my chef hat, and that trick helps my arms not hate me!
Omg-enius!!! Genius idea!!!!!
How many inches did u cut off the front the first time?
I always do the bend too! so much easier to get the perfect high pony for this!
I also did the bend over trick 😂
Brad makes these videos just so he can react to more people obliterating their hair at home... and I'm here for it.
😹
Can't wait for them tbh 😂
True story! 😂😂

Before I do it I’m gonna pull up the next three mannequins and make sure it works on the so I don’t go into my in hair and fail miserable

A REAL LIFE HERO !!!
I saw the butterfly cut on Pinterest and I said, “I’m gonna wait till Brad comes out with a how to.” THIS IS MY SIGN FOR A CHANGE BABY! Thanks so much for sharing and being awesome. Last cut I did was the shag from your tutorial and curtain bangs and I loved how my hair turned out. You’re the best. Thanks!
Update: I cut it exactly as instructed only I went a bit shorter and ended up with the Rachel cut! I’ve gotten so many compliments on it! Thank you Brad! ❤️
I cannot express how much I appreciate this video. My hair has never looked so good! It’s literally two snips and my curls are so happy! And since I wear my hair short now, this cut frames my face and gives me perfect curtain bangs!! It takes me 5 minutes to accomplish a look that would take a salon stylist 30mins+ and $100 to accomplish. My only complaint is that I don’t have a Time Machine to be able to show this video to my teen-self. 25 years and I finally LOVE my hair ❤❤❤
I'm 68 years old. I just cut my hair according to your instructions. I dried and styled it. Then I got a feeling of Deja Vu. I've worn this style before. Then I looked through my photo album. It's the hairstyle I wore in the late 1970! It's the big Farrah Fawcett Majors hairstyle! I love it! Since I'm getting old and my hair looks thinner and lifeless, this is the perfect hairstyle for me. My hair looks so full, healthy and so youthful. It's the style I have been looking for. Thank you, Brad!
Farrah hair!💙🦋💙
This is what I needed to convince me to do this!
Yesssss and the bangs that are trending are very Farrah too, I think about her at least once a week styling my bangs 😅❤
I was gonna say. Butterfly cuts are Farrah hair and a wolf cut is just a shag!
Yes yes yes you’re right. I always loved Farrah Fawcett’s hairstyle.
This is actually the haircut I've been doing for myself since I was a child, and kept getting compliments on.
Because I did not know how to do it efficiently, it took me hours every time and made my hands feel like they are about to fall off.
The very few times I was too lazy to do it myself and went to a hair dresser, I left disappointed. No one managed to do what I described, not even close.
Now I can finally actually do it easily thanks to you! You are awesome Brad!
Lol this is the haircut I’ve been giving myself as well, it’s a little crazy making to see him do it so simply and quickly.
Also, it’s definitely just the “Rachel.”
@@rainbomg exactly! Everyone in the 90's had this; though I'm glad its coming back
Same story as you but me it was the wolf cut , it took hour to do it , when I saw his tuto it saved my time
When I tell you to do this I MEAN IT. I have a round face and I didn’t see many people do this with a round face but I decided to just do it. IT LOOKS SOO GOOD. I am so happy I did it, it give my hair so much body and volume. If you’re thinking about it then just do it. Trust me if you do all the steps correct you be so happy with your results. I also have wavy hair that is a little more on the thick side and usually a little bit weighed down.
Don't doubt yourself! Anyone with a comb, hair ties and scissors can accomplish this. Super easy and satisfying to style afterwards.
BRADDDDDDD! You have just given me the best hair of my entire life with this tutorial! I’ve gotten so many compliments and have been told I have “beautiful hair” since I used your tutorial. My sister saw my results and had me cut her hair as well. Which of course turned out awesome! I showed her my results and she said, “I want my metamorphosis”. That is truly what this haircut is, a metamorphosis of late 90’s “It” girl confidence. I have officially achieved my Topanga hair goals. Thank you!
Oh my god you just stole the words right out of my mouth. I am literally in love as well. I will always give myself hair cuts like this from now on! I am so pleased as well as surprised it worked out so well.
Happy for your beautiful hair days … also awesome we share the same name, that’s cool 😉
Ok...this is weird...3 CASSANDRA'S? When does that ever happen? Y'all have me excited. I'm totally going to try this. It seems sooo simple and I absolutely love layered hair. Haven't had a good layer cut since 2004.
i aint reading allat but we UP 🆙 ⬆️
Honestly, seeing this tutorial, the end results gave me Rachael from Friends vibes, and I'm living for it😍
@@MissMausoleum Same. I'll never go to the salon again. I have thick hair, that's naturally kinda curly/wavy, so I've always had my hair layered. It's never been layered to my satisfaction, until now. I love that I can now cut my own hair, to my satisfaction. I wish I could see everyone's hair after this tutorial!💕
Because of you, Brad, I just did something I haven’t done since my 30’s…I walked into my bathroom at 1am, grabbed the hair scissors, comb and elastic, and lopped off my way too long hair. I was debating the wolf cut, but when I saw this I knew it was what I wanted. I love it!
Same here… I just started to do a wolf cut when I saw this. I’m pushing 70 and hair close to my waist almost 1 length.
Boring…. Wish me luck
Me sitting here with a wolf cut wishing I would have done the butterfly cut the whole top of my hair is butchered LOL did the wolf cut myself but it took me over a month of cutting hair cutting there LOL
@watermoonchild
Yep, that's when we make our best decisions!😉
Same, but at 4am 😆
He is pretty amazing!!!!
As a retired stylist I love watching your vids. You bring me the latest trends which helps me keep up with things. If I took a class it would be a couple hours of time wasted and I can easily expand on the cut if I chose too . It gets my creative side stimulated.
What do I do? I have beautiful thick hair. I’m now aging. But my career expects me to wear a hat and have been used to having it up due to sports growing up. Down is still beautiful. But I do not know how to do it. So a tie up again is what I do. 😕 I know it can be beautiful. But do not know what to do. 😭
@@shy_blue1546 what I would suggest is find a stylist you trust. Have her evaluate your hair. Tell her what you needs and want are. Bring the hat along also. Whether you want different ways to wear it up or a cut that is simple to care for and works with the hat. Be sure she is aware that you want her to teach you how to style it .
Hi 👋 as your a proffesh, would this work for naturally curly hair, shoulder length, or would it just be way too short? Especially the front pieces x I have had it the same for so long and I have no curly hairdresser specialists near me or even not! So I do usually just trim it myself but would love layers as it's very "pyramid" shaped x I would REALLY appreciate your advice fellow BM fan ❤️
@@lisasmith8484 it would work with curly hair. It would give it a different shape and with a few modufication look really cute. Of course you have to make some adjustments for the curl in your hair. It won't look like the picture cause of the curl in your hair bit it could be really cut.
i have pretty curly hair and i did this. it turned out lovely and my hair is so much healthier since i cut off the dead ends. iv been growing my hair out now for like almost two years and i love that it didnt make my hair too much shorter bc i am loving my long hair! tutorial 100/10
hi!! ive been wanting to do this haircut for forever but im scared bc my hair is curly too. is your hair ever frizzy with this cut?? and do you have to spend a lot of time styling it?? id appreciate any advice :0
@@gabrielahouser6736hi! sorry i don't have curly hair, but i do have wavy hair. i got this haircut about a year ago. my hair generally doesn't get frizzy with it as i always put in a leave-in and oil when it's wet. i have been growing out my hair for a long time, so i didn't cut much off the back as well. it does take a long time to style if i'm honest, so i usually prolong my washes. it takes me about 30 mins to an hour starting with at least 70% dry hair. if you would like to wear your hair naturally, it looks really cute. sorry i couldn't have been better help
Did you cut it wet or dry?
@@gabrielahouser6736as person with frizzy+curly hair ,my recommendation is not to get it,
[but get it if u have time straightening and styling it]
cuz u hair may look good right after the haircut or straightening, but in general, the the side bangs will look messy (very frizzy )and curl up to the top
Me too fr I was so scared to cut my hair cause I don’t want to erase the process ❤😂 it feels so much healthier tho and it’s not even that much shorter
I followed your directions exactly, I even rewet my hair before each cutting... I took a little over 6 inches off. I was scared & crying because I have thin hair... But that was very cleansing for me, like cutting off the painful past so I can grow into a new future. It turned out looking very nice, the layers all connected perfectly, and now it will have a nicer look to it as I continue to grow it out. Thank you Brad for giving me a way to have a fresh look to continue in healing my broken heart.
Hair cutting can really be therapeutic!! Here's hoping for good times! ❤😊
I just did this with my teenage daughter. I followed it step by step but I used the hair I cut off at the front to measure the hair I cut off at the back and it was amazing! Thank you Brad!!!
Literally the best haircut I’ve had in 10 years or maybe ever and it took less than 5 minutes. My hair looks awesome…thank you!
SAME🥰
Do you always need to blow dry your hair to make it work?
I just said the same! Best haircut in years!!
@@helli_missyblow drying always gives that extra bounce, but you can get a dryer brush which takes 10 mins and gives a nice effect
I just wanted to let you know that you are awesome! Your instructions are clear and easy to follow! I am 48 years old and I do not know how to cut hair. I am also blind. Even so, I figured I would save some money and do it myself because even if I messed up, I can't see it anyway. I followed your tutorial and it is hand's down the best haircut I have ever had ( my husband said so).
He just makes it look *so dang easy* 🥺💙
Yeah 😊
Seriously! Cause I could never 😂
@Mygenericlookz can't wait to see it 😭
Well... he did train as a hairdresser and practice as one for many years. Makes sense he's better at it than just us watching. Plus, he has a very agreeable client. 🤣
Two ponytails and cut. Could not be easier.
I just cut my hair using your Butterfly cut. I'm 66 and simply not all that screen-worthy anymore but I wanted to say I lost 10 years after cutting my hair like this. I love it!! Thank you! I'd love to see you do a "what happens if" video so we can see why you pull the front lock down and forward and why you pull the back one up and forward and what happens if you don't. I think it would give us an even better idea of why it's crucial to do it just like you tell us to. Thank you so much for this. My hair is really thick, and it was getting really long. It's still long but now frames my face and looks so refreshed and healthy! Now I'm trying to decide how to spend the $300 you saved me.
You ARE screen worthy!!! ❤
u r so sweet@@MamaDrama613
I just did this haircut for the second time & it came out stunning the first time. This time I experimented a tiny bit & pulled too much hair to the front (bc I wanted to thin out my hair more) however it gave me too many short layers in the back of my head. To get a nice blend of layers, divide the hair exactly as he said lol. Now I will likely have to cut all of my hair shorter to blend it. I wonder if there’s a way to do 3 sections, but the two sections is easy & beautiful. Thank you Brad!
Goddammit Brad, you dropped a video RIGHT when I got out of the shower, with wet hair. And this haircut is exactly what I want. DAMMIT BRAD NOW I HAVE TO IMPULSIVELY TRY IT
Update: remarkably hard if you have thick hair. I recommend 3 sections, not 2. I have a bit of a shelf-situation in the back of my head. Great for face-framing layers though.
Oooh pls update us to tell us how it went!
Pls update, i am going to do it too maybeee
make a video please i want to see how it look likes
We need a video so Brad can react to it.
Damnitt Brad 😂💀
YALL i dont usually leave comments but i just had to say this! ive had traumatic experiences with hair salons and getting haircuts as a curly hair girlie so i just decided to do this myself and HONESTLY im so happy with the results!!!!! i was a little worried if this cut would suit my curl pattern (2c/3a) but it looks really cute and the cut gives the hair such good shape! it even looked good straightened!! cant thank you enough Brad
I have 2c/3a hair too!! I was worried and overthinked a lot to do this, your comment helped me a bit ngl 😭🫶🏼
Thank you Brad. Just cut my hair and after 10 years of bad haircuts since moving from NY to AZ and no one doing what I asked I finally got it right. My mom always said if you want something done right, do it yourself. Love your energy!
I just did this cuz my ends were so bad. I took off 2-3 inches and I love it!! It's even and the sides look amazing! My hair is fine and this cut added a ton of volume. Thank you Brad!!!!
I hope you read some of the comments of all the people with chronic illness, or other challenges, and how you bring so much joy into their lives by sharing your expertise, sending you good karma, so sweet to read how many people you have affected in such a beautiful way!
BRAD MONDO YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER (well....HAIR SAVER LOL). I am 61 yrs old with a very rare illness. Since covid began I have not been allowed to be around people. Yes! That DOES mean NO HAIRDRESSERS for the past FOUR YEARS! I thought this was the way I was going to have to look for the rest of my life, BUT, thanks to your butterfly cut tutorial this girl is BACK! BOOM! YEAH BOYYYEEE!! I wish I could send u before and after pics! You would be SHOCKED! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!
I have a hairdresser phobia... anyway, I've been studying your videos, I've just given myself this cut and it looks amazing, I honestly can't thank you enough!!!
I'm going out on a date tonight and this is the boost I needed, I love you.
The only thing I trust is my hands. I've been to the hair salon and they didn't even know how to cut side bangs and swooshed the scissors 😭
@@ameffabruada1215 that’s why I rarely go 😢
Lmao these tutorials are great for people with social anxiety like me
I also have a HUGE hairdresser phobia because no matter which hair styling place I go it looks bad and I have normal wavy hair like its not that difficult
Yes! Same, have not been to a stylist in +5 years. Gonna try this one I think, it's time for a change!!
Its literally a longer version of the Rachel haircut!! I loveee the layers and face framing pieces!! SUPER flattering and timeless!!🤩💖🙌✨
I immediately thought of the Rachel too. Funny how every trend comes back if you are around long enough 👵🏻😄
Oh thank goodness I’ve been over here yelling “it’s just the Rachel!” This whole time. It’s also the only haircut I’ve been able to give myself during the pandy, bc I’m always going for morning talk show host level volume and bounce no matter what year it is.
LOL I thought it was just me being an elder Millennial thinking this. I've done similar cuts on myself but never with using hair ties. Right now I have layers but not this much and I need a trim so might do this tomorrow when I trim it. I have fine 2C/3A textured hair naturally, medium density, high porosity. Cuts like this bring my waves/curls to life.
I thought the same its the Rachel cut ! 😊
Yep, from the start of the video I totally thought this was "The Rachel", but a softer version. the 90's has come back with a vengeance.
It's my first time doing a butterfly cut! I followed every step of the video on my tablet. Afterwards, I discovered my thick hair is not straight but actually very wavy with curls at the front. All these years I've been brushing out the waves and never knew.
UPDATE: Some of the curls that framed my face were cut off at odd angles. I don't know if I'd do this again for myself because it doesn't take curls into account. It's a really good cut if you don't have this problem, but you may find yourself snipping some areas to correct them. I'm hoping my hair grows out so that I can fix the front.
Can you wear a ponytail with this haircut?
My hair (the ponytail) is much longer in the front than in the back. Did you cut it so the length of hair is the same on both?
@@honeyowen3163 Yes, I clipped the front first, then used that cut piece of hair like a ruler to measure how much to cut from the back. I kept taking out my front ponytail, observing the length, ponytail it, measure cut again. I stopped when the shortest layer in front reached my chin for face-framing.
@@slunexpectedgirl962 It depends how short you cut it, right? Measure how long you want your bangs to be, let that be your guide.
@@honeyowen3163 Brad says to clip off the same amount from the front and the back. That is what I did. If you start with hair that's longer in the back than the front, take into consideration how short you're making the front.
Did this yesterday and set it with heatless sock curls and have had crazy compliments. I used to get this style done 15 years ago, but never found the perfect hairdresser after I moved. Never going to a salon again! I am SO grateful. Thank you, Brad.
I actually did this, it came out so pretty! I have shoulder length hair, so I barely cut off an inch but it gave me some layers and worked as a trim. Remember! If you want this to work, do it exactly as Brad does
THANK YOU for the clear, thorough, no guesswork instruction. I did the cut today and I LOVE IT! This is the fresh style I've needed for ages. Brad, you're a gift.
BRAD MONDO!!!!
So I followed your instructions. I said a little prayer before parting the apex, then off to the races. Ok, so let me back up.
1. I have Alopecia and I have little hair.
2. I have bald spots and normally comb my hair to cover them.
3. I hate not having volume, I refuse to wear a wig.
Ok....
Long story, short.... I cut it and I LOVE IT! I cut 3" off and trimmed where needed. The layers are still long and I HAVE VOLUME! THANK YOU!
😢😊
I have alopecia as well! Thank you for your input because I was hesitant to try, you gave me the courage!
I've used this video twice now and both times has worked well for me. I'm almost 50, have thinning hair (probably from all of the different 80's/90's hair trends I did😅) & now a preschool teacher with a small homestead. I've been let down by local hair salons & doing it myself again. Love it! Not a whole lot a maintenance, which I love, makes my hair fuller when styled and I've gotten compliments on how great it looks on my face. Thank you!
I followed this video today!! I have 2C-3C (very inconsistent) curls. I hoped it would work with a defuser and not a blow out. I have been thinking about going shorter anyway, so I figured if I totally hated it I would just have it cut short later this week. WOW!! I LOVE it! It made my curls look much more consistent and AMAZING! I was done with layers because they always seem to make my hair look so much thinner at the bottom. Now I have major layers and they just give lots of body and movement. Thank you!!
I was nervously debating if I should do this haircut because I have curly hair and I wasn't sure if it'd turn out well on curls, but you've given me a lot of hope! I bet it looks great on you!
tysm brad.. im just a 14 yr old and my parents are strict af BUT i did this at 4:00am its took me 40 mins for perfection, drying wtc.. its soo beautiful your tutorials totally work and perfectly end up giving me good hair!!

Helpppp I'm scared to do this because it might leave to much volume should I do itttt
@@-call_me_Millie-13I did it like 2 weeks ago and omg it looks so so SOOOO GOOOD!! If you did pls tell me how it looks btw you should do it if you have wavy/straight hair but NOT curly hair

so happy for you and your hair!
Same here! I had to do it immediately. So happy with it!
I really want to do it but I'm scared of messing up 🤪🤪🤪🤪
@@danip6160 You won't mess it up, it's very simple 🤍
What is your hair type? I’m trying to determine if this is a good cut for me. I have a lot of hair, but it’s very fine.
I did this on myself when you first posted the video and it looked amazing! I'm back bc between then and now I went to a salon & it just didn't compare to this (a high end salon who otherwise is fabulous).. so I came back to rewatch and refresh my memory. I need more Brad in my life, it's 7am here and I'm hysterical laughing by myself - Brad, if you ever see this, please never doubt that you are an amazing human, heart and soul 🫶
Me too! I just did it for the first time randomly. It looks amazing! My mom asked me if I went to the salon to get it done.
I have been having bad trichotillomania lately where I’ve been picking at the top layers of my hair and it’s really noticeably shorter on the the back crown top layer area. Decided to see if this could help blend it all a bit better and it really did. Thanks Brad 😍😍
I’ve also been wearing silk bandanas on my head around my house which is really helping me stop picking, in case anyone else is struggling with this issue.
hey! mine comes & goes & is usually focused on my eyebrows but i wanna say ur not alone & i appreciate ur transparency on this post ❤❤
I did this cut on Friday. Everyone who saw it on Saturday loved it. I even have 3 friends going to do it. It turned out so pretty. Best haircut I have had in year’s.
Thanks for your feedback!
hey im going to do it this friday too! wish me luck!!
did you also use a hair dryer ? did u try with a hair straightener ?
Doing it this Friday as well 😂
I never met a hairdresser who would recommend this cut for me. Now, in 15 minutes you've taught me how to cut my own hair and look fabulous. I smile whenever I look in the mirror. Thank you Brad! You're the best!
BRAD. I gave myself this haircut yesterday and it is….LITERALLY. THE BEST. HAIRCUT. IVE EVER HAD. I’m obsessed. Thank you sooooooo much.
I’ve been wearing layers for 20+ years. I already got lectured by my 19 y/o daughter two years ago: “mom, no one wears layers anymore” so I grew it out long and eventually went back to layers and bam! Back in style 😎 and my daughter got layers, too. I said “ooooh, but no one has layers anymore” and we had a good laugh
Wow that cut is gorgeous 😍 l may just do it this week. Love ❤️ it
Layers are always in, kids are just dumb sometimes 😅
Layers never left and the wolf cut is even a layered cut haha not sure where she heard that
@@Faerienice She was a teen and all her friends had really long hair with no layers
Just did this and love it! I’d been telling my stylist that I wanted long layers and never got anything close to the cuteness I’m looking at in the mirror right now! I love how it didn’t really take any overall length off; my hair still looks long but has so much more body. Thanks!
I spent two months contemplating doing this, as in the past I hated how salons never cut my hair right. So I let my hair grow long for 5 years and just tired at my age putting it in a pony tail all the time. Well I finally did it I cut it by myself. Was hard using a comb but I did it ! Brad you made an old lady feel young again 😘 Thank You 😊
Thank you so much for this. I am a spinal injury recovering patient and I booked an appointment with a hair stylist with the last of the money i had because i haven’t felt pretty lately. But due to circumstances i couldn’t make it to the appointment so decided to do on my own n followed this tutorial. It was super easy and fun to follow and turned out great. Love your positivity and smile
I just did it! I took a ruler to mesure 4 inches in the front and took the piece of hair cut to have the same size cut on the second part and it went perfectly!
It took me less than 10 minutes for perfect layers framing my face. Thank you Brad
I am so excited I just gave my son a haircut for the first time. His hair is waist-length! I cut about eight inches off and the length is barely touched, just took the dead weight, maybe 2 inches but the layers are PERFECT. He has very thick curly-wavy kind of frizzy hair but with this cut the weight is off and it looks so healthy and the layers are just right for more curl and less frizz. So yeah if people are wondering this does work with curly hair, just remember when it dries it will be much shorter!
My son is 17 and a HUGE fan so this was quite an experience. Thanks so much for giving us the confidence for this big change!
Dear Brad, thank you. This is the first tutorial that I actually dared try. And it does look amazing. It's just unbelievable. And it took me no more then 20 minutes! Thank you! I have been using the money I save to help pay for my mom's medical bills so I really, really needed a haircut. No more buns baby 🙏🙏🙏
Praying for your mom and you/your family! 🩷 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes will have eternal life in Him.

It's the 'Rachel' cut doing it's rounds again! 😂🥰👌 I had this way back when and I loved it!
Yes! It will forever be a classic cut. 😍
I came here to say this exact thing!!!! The “Rachel” is back!!!!!
First thing I thought about was Rachel🤣❤️❤️❤️
Exactly my thought too
Yep! The Rachel is here again!
Just made the ✂️ and I'm completely in love with my new hair. I'm actually really shocked at how good I feel and how amazing it looks. The best part of all is that my hair now styles itself! I got natural curls that make it look like I've already styled it for a night out after only walking out of the shower and leaving to air-dry. However
If to give it that extra finish I only need a small amount of hypercurl while it's still wet, then blowdry it by holding it up near my scalp and of course finishing with a saltspray! I'm super excited and I'm so thankful. Thank you so much
I’m 69 with fine but wavy hair. I tried the butterfly cut after watching the video and was thoroughly pleased … the best hair cut ever. Hairdressers in the past always did one side poorly whereas the cut I gave myself was fantastic. My hair is at its very best and looks thicker and healthier thanks to the video 👏🏻👏🏻
I tried this today and the ponytail in the back was very hard to do with thick hair, but the results are definitely worth the arm cramps, it does give you many layers and doesnt take much away from the length of your hair and it looks amazing, would definitely recommend😊
I just did this on my mid length 2b - 2c fine hair. IT LOOKS AMAZING. So much better than before! This is giving the volume I’ve been looking for. Tysm brad 🙏🙏🙏
i wish brad mondo would do more hair tutorials for curly hair
I don't know if he's a curly specialist
@doljdowj same - at least for like a 3B to 4A
and short hair as well :(
it's just not his thing. for great curly hair tutorials we have Manes by Mell!
@@tamara.mw. well he’s a hair stylist, I would think he knows how to do curly hair too
I had a long silky hair. I've been in a very nice hairdresser first time in his salon. I've asked for butterfly cut. He said is the same as wolf cut. I don't know about that so I agree for this. I didn't like the cut. Very irregular. But today I did step by step, which I normally not follow any tutorials like that. I have to say that I love it! I can see layers even though my hair are so straight. Thank you @Brad Mondo
I just finished following this tutorial and my hair turned out so cute!! I’ve been cutting my hair since covid happened and it has never turned out as good as this. It took so long to get the hair parting right, eventually I gave up on making it perfect. It was a little jagged but it still turned out well :) I’m so glad I found this video bc now I’ll know what to follow when i cut my hair in the future ^_^
I soooo wish this video was out in the summer. This is the haircut/style I tried explaining to several girls at the salon. The best reference they could come up with was “the rachel” or wolfcut but longer. 🙄. This is the cut I was getting years ago because I have thin straight hair and it gives me so much volume. Thank you, Brad, for giving me (1) a new reference to take to salons and (2) the education and courage to try it on my own. ✂️💇🏻♀️
I don't have hair, I have a collection of unmanageable cowlicks. I was seriously considering shaving it off and getting a wig. Then I saw this video. This is the best and easiest DIY hairdo I've ever done. Two snips and NO MESS. It took a few attempts to do the sectioning (turns out this is something even newbie pro hairdressers have to practice, and there are helpful videos on here). The result is soooooo good, it has boosted my confidence and I no longer hate my hair. Thank you Brad!
Look for some tutorials for getting rid of cowlicks, i seen someone use hair perm to flatten them.
@@MaryJones-hm6ie thank you. They're behaving a lot better since I tried this hair cut :)
I've been doing this haircut since this video came out! I love it! I get lots of compliments. I never went back to the hair salon. Brad you're awesome
I've always thought the other ways I've been seeing of getting this haircut looks too complicated to do myself at home but Brad came out here showing us the easiest way as always 👐
Brad!!! you should definitely make a tutorial for curly hair and which layer techniques would give the best volume and curl definition!! Sometimes it’s hard to imagine these styles on curly hair and if the cut would be right for me.
Yessss!!!
I've just done this cut on my curly hair, I love it!
@@amandaou3831 how long is your hair??? mine is about shoulder length and i have A LOT of hair so im not so sure
Tried this after having the same long, untried, unchanging hair for years with my hair reaching down to my hips. Only cut around 4 inches, but the change was enough to make me feel so happy with the new/slightly changed look! Nothing better than a little impulsiveness to get the job done :)
I’m doing this haircut for a good year now and I’m so happy. I do not chop too much off, I use it for regular trim as it keeps the layers and im a curly haired girl, but it saves me SO MUCH MONEY FOR A TRIM AT THE HAIRDRESSER. Takes literally 10 minutes and i keep on growing out my hair. Thank you for this xx
Brad's instructions are always on point! I always learn a lot from his videos.
I wonder how this haircut would look like on curly hair 🤔
I'm desperate for some layers LOL
Yesss! Do it girl! Looove curly layers
I was wondering the same. Would love to see it on curly hair. 🥲
I literally just left a comment saying would it work for my curly shoulder length thin hair, I need more oomf and layers because it looks like a pyramid 😆
@@lisasmith8484 same question I have , my 3b hair needs life
Curly hair is the best hair for layers! It’s the most forgiving of them too! I wouldn’t put that much of a space in between the longest layer and the shortest one, but I think it would look great. You can experiment by pulling your hair up into a little ponytail on top of your head and just see what the result is on the sides, and also try searching the terms “curly hair layered cut” or something like that
I am sure it’ll look great tho! ❤
this is the fricking haircut I've been asking for for like ten years and no one could do it. Now after my last salon lopping off my hair into a bob....I'm doing this as soon as it grows out. Done with salons. Thank you.
Same issue. Done with salons and officially learning to cut my own hair.
Listen here Brad. I bleached my very dark brown hip length hair perfectly to white using your videos. I cut curtain bangs using your videos and now it’s time for butterfly cut. You haven’t failed me yet so let’s hope it turns out.
how did it turn out?? My hair is waist length as well, and I’m worried this won’t look good on that length. Any update??
@@serenity1294 same I have really long hair, I was thinking of just doing the front to do a face frame without losing length
@@serenity1294 you would have to cut quite a bit off to notice the difference like how brad said, mines is the same and I did it today I didn’t cut enough so it doesn’t look that noticeable. Imma try again next week and cute more off because I also still have some split ends left I want off as well🥲
Way surpassed my expectations. I followed these directions, took off 4", no point cutting,... and it's perfect. Literally, perfect. I'm kind of dumbfounded. FYI, my hair is long, somewhat wavy and thick with thick strands. I can't believe much bounce I have right now. This is wild to admit, but I haven't had this great a haircut since I grew my hair long nearly 10 years ago. Thanks!
Brad Mondo you are AMAZING... I watched the video and followed it exactly and it turned out AMAZING... I was freaking out at first. All my hair was the same length and is very fine... I needed a good cut and some layers for some volume... I did it and I love it... I didn't mess around and cut off a good 5 inches and I must say I'm not at all mad about it ... Thanks again you're the best ❤️❤️❤️
First time in my lifetime that I cut my hair myself. It worked soooo good on my wavy hair ! I was cautious and did not 4 inches but it turned out good as well. I had so much bad experiences with hairdressers who took a fortune and I was not happy afterwards. This time I paid nothing and it turned out as the best haircut I ever had 😂
Update: I am still very happy with the cut and planning to grow my hair long, but with this cut. So I think I will cut it always like the first ponytail is not shorter than chin length.
Please how much did you cut? I’m so afraid
@@linamalakbelouanas9828 I did it twice, I cut off each time the length of one inch. One-two fingers.
I’m genuinely confused, can you wear a ponytail with this hair cut ?
@@slunexpectedgirl962 sure, no problem. But it depends generally how short you cut your hair. My front ponytail is not shorter as my chin.
Just just followed your tutorial and my heavy, overgrown hair turned out SO great! I did point cut the ends of the ponytail cuts, and since I part on one side, I touched up the long face framing layers on the less voluminous side to more or less match with the other side.
Overall, I wish I’d done this weeks ago! My “straight” hair is now boasting subtle waves when air dried, which I love. Thank you so much for putting my hair outcomes in my own hands!
Thank you, yesss!
Did you point cut the ponytails at the initial cut (where Brad goes straight across) or go back after you let your hair down?
This is exactly what I want to do with my hair, except I part in the middle…blunt ends don’t do well on my fine hair and point cutting always works but I wasn’t sure with this cut!
@@debbie5005 I point cut… cutted… point cut 😅 the pony tail ends first, then point cut the hair after it was down, as I blended the layers together. I do think point cutting the pony tail ends helped blend the layers overall, although of course some blending of layers was still required after the hair let-down.

Did you cut the same length off each ponytail?
@@dons1477 probably ended up cutting about the same amount 4-5 inches off each ponytail, yes.
Just start off slow and cut some more if you need to. I Did one round of cutting, blow dried it, let a couple of days go by to see how I liked it. It was nice but I thought it could use more layers which means I didn’t cut enough. So cut a second time a few days later and I’m glad I did because it took it to another level of layers which I love as well as left my hair looking healthier and with more body!❤️❤️❤️ Let me know if you try it!

My hair was literally down to almost the back of my knees. I wore it up every day for almost a year bc it was so long and heavy and it grew so much. I saw this haircut going viral on IG and knew I had to try it. My arms got a workout and are soar from how much work it took to get that much hair in those positions but my hair looks amazing! I had to cut it a 2nd time because it was still way too long and I love it ❤ thank you for sharing this with us!
Would love to see Photos!!
Just leaving another comment to say it works! I had a similar style, but after moving away from the amazing stylist I had, I was in desperate need of a trim and hadn't found a new place yet. I only took off 3-4 inches since my hair was down to my waist and I wanted to keep the length; I may take off more the next time I wash my hair. Super easy to follow Brad's instructions, and because I have a side part, I just added some point cuts at the recommendation of another commenter.
My wife loves this channel. I'm going to cut her hair (she's trusting me😅) and I'm going to use this video to do it. I haven't told her which video I'm using but she's down. Wish me luck. I'll probably be doing it sometime within the next week.

I know I am late to the party....but just finished my butterfly cut on myself and I love it! I have been growing out my fine, thin hair and even though i love longer hair....it just seemed lifeless. This hair cut is the perfect combo of long and layers to make you feel like you have a style. Love your channel Brad....you are a rock star 🎉
Would love to see hair do for very fine or thinning hair. Or even for people with bald patches like my mom. I have no clue what to do with mine.
I decided to do the butterfly cut and I'm in love! 😭❤️ I have been having bad hair loss postpartum and this gave me some confidence back and more volume where I've lost it! I contemplated cutting all my hair off, but this is so easy to look great even in a rush! Thank you Brad Mondo you are the BEST as always! 💕
Coming here to thank you Brad! I tried doing this by myself and it came out very nice. I have very thin hair and I didn't cut off that much because I didn't want to lose much length. So the layer around my face is really just two strands of hair instead of a longish "bang" kind of layer, but it still frames my face a bit and is also very playful! And the layers at the back make my thin hair feel a bit more bouncy and I am really feeling myself! :) Thank you.
I did this once maybe half a year ago, and they grew out so i'm due for my 2nd one of this hair cut :) I never thought giving myself a hair cut could be THIS EASY. I always had home done haircut (got outside hair cut here and there in between with no satisfied results) and its alway just a cut at the bottom to shorten them -- no style what so ever to speak of. Ever since I tried this tutorial i'm now so confident in my own ability to style + cut my own hair and I feel i'm unstoppable!!! (sorry if this made no sense.. but its a feeling i'm getting and i love it lol) Like a lot of other people already mentioned, this is a awesome and THANK YOU so much for this tutorial!
Literally RAN to my bathroom at 11pm to give myself this haircut. Glad I did it looks BOMB. THANK YOU BRAD 💖💖
