For those who are confused about 4/3 : -2÷3 = y÷1 (These are equivalent fractions as we are talking about points on the same line...so their ratio of slope has to be same.) -2×1 = 3×y -2÷3 = y so the fraction y ÷1 becomes -2∕3 ÷ 1 or we can say by moving x-axis by 1 we have to move y-axis by -2/3 The new point is between 2 and 1 .So we have to move from 2 negatively to get to the new point. or we can write the new point as: 2-2∕3 ⇒ (6-2)∕3 ⇒ 4/3 . Hope that helps.
ASASAS SASASAS do you mean that since 1*Y=-2/3*X therefore if we moved one point to the right we have to go 2/3 points down and since the y-axis point is 2 therefore the point on the x-axis = 2-2/3 = 3/4
Guys please help!! So for part 2 can you only find b/ y intercept by looking at the graph or is there a way to calculate it without looking at the graph?
Umm no comprendo?!😆 I am an advance seventh grader and I am currently doing eighth grade math. So I have literally never seen this before. It gave me a basis but it didn't help me cover it fully... At around 2:14 when he was verifying the slope of the slope-intercept form y = m x + b he end up with these variables. if x = 0 then y = b if x = 1 then y = m + b And this is his equation with a positive m when he using "y= m + b" as a starting point to be subtracted by the end point "y = b". m + b - b m ---------------- = -------------- = m 1 - 0 1 But I when I tried to use "y=b" as starting point I end up with a negative "-m" which is wrong. b - b + m m -------------- = -------------- = - m 0 - 1 - 1 Can someone tell where I got it wrong on my equation.
The reason y goes down by negative 2 / 3 is ...x -23 = y 1(These two are equivalent ratios.If x goes by +3 then y goes by -2 then what is y when x goes by 1?) Solving for y gives us -21 = 3y -2 / 3 = y Or y = -2/3 ie if x goes by +1 then y goes down by -2 / 3 that’s what he says in the video. 2 - 2/3 = (6-2) /3 = 4/3. Hope that helps.

Yeah, still confusing.
THANKS FOR CONFUSING ME MORE!
Are you supposed to choose a random point or a specific one. If it's specific than how do you choose the points. I don't get it
Very useful, Thank you! I have struggled with this all my life and now I finally understand!
I understand this now! Thank you!

watching this and big bang theory made me appricate nerds more
I'm so very happy because i understood the whole video.
¿What i mean?
I mean that i'm speak spanish but i learned english and that's how i understood
Excellent explaination!
i believe he got 4/3 because 2/3 simplified is 1/3 so if he went over to the right once and down 1/3 you can simplify that by 3 * 1 +1 which is 4/3.
No y=3.75 is all they're giving u, since you're not given a slope, you assume it's 0 and when a slope=0, it's a horizontal line
Thanks for a great video mate helped me out heaps

try going to the kahn academy website and start with some earlier videos, it should make much more sense

Thanks. !
At around 2:14 when he was verifying the slope of the slope-intercept form y = m x + b he end up with these variables.
if x = 0 then y = b
if x = 1 then y = m + b
And this is his equation with a positive m when he using "y= m + b" as a starting point to be subtracted by the end point "y = b".
m + b - b m
---------------- = -------------- = m
1 - 0 1
But I when I tried to use "y=b" as starting point I end up with a negative "-m" which is wrong.
b - b + m m
-------------- = -------------- = - m
0 - 1 - 1
Can someone tell where I got it wrong on my equation.
When you subtract (b+m) from b, you get (b-b-m). It's not (b-b+m). Hope you understood.
thanks
hi braindead
hmmm, its kind of confusing for me but at least I went from not knowing how to solve those equations from having some form of knowledge about it.
at 4:25 how did he got the y intercept 4/3
The reason y goes down by negative 2 / 3 is ...x
-23 = y 1(These two are equivalent ratios.If x goes by +3 then y goes by -2 then what is y when x goes by 1?)
Solving for y gives us
-21 = 3y
-2 / 3 = y
Or y = -2/3
ie if x goes by +1 then y goes down by -2 / 3 that’s what he says in the video.
2 - 2/3 = (6-2) /3 = 4/3.
Hope that helps.
