Wow you deserve MANY more views than that. I have been on the hunt for good math videos for my kids and i have been through HUNDREDS of them about slope, etc. Hands down this is the most clear, concise and uncluttered explanation out there. Gold medal to you!
same here but I'm at such a weird point. in those videos where math teachers from actual in-person classes teach and have to stop to tell students to pay attention or write something down I get so angry I have to find a different video
I completely forgot about this and now that I'm in college i need a quick review. you summed all the details i needed for understanding this one quick. YOU'RE OUR SAVIOR
You have been such a huge help! I haven’t touched math in over 10 years and find myself back in school now almost wanting to give up. Thank you so much for walking through each step on the most basic level.
Professor Dave.......... you are truly MAE (master at everything) from 1+1 to y=2x-3. You have helped me so much when I have math problems is go straight to your channel and there is always a video answering I’m question. Keep up the good work!!!!
I cannot thank you enough for this video!!! I am very behind when it comes to math due to a number of reasons, including a few learning differences as well as I was given an honors math program growing up that was like high school in elementary and I never learned anything because I didn't even know what they were asking. I am trying to heal my relationship with math especially since I have to take a college-level one soon and this video cleared up years of confusion. I swear this sounds dramatic but I am serious thanks!
Great visual explanation of slope! And showing a slope progress to a "no slope" and regress to a "0 slope" was awesome! I'm a high school math teacher and my students often struggle with truly understanding slope. I love this explanation and visual.
YOU AND ME BOTH!!! I actually failed my highschool math equivalency state test. I was put in a remedial math class and finished in less than a quarter of the time I was suppose to. The teacher asked why and it was simple: I had never been taught most of what was on the test. It wasn't that I couldn't learn it. I'm in an accounting program now and struggling with this statistics course because I've never seen much of the math before.
at 2:07 he says y2 is 4, my question is why? how come 2 isn’t y2? I often get confused with these points, does it have to do with how big the numerical value is?
i've never been in a such good point in math and with this understanding of how it works in my life, in school i was only taught things that i forgot in a day and never with an explanation of how it works and what's its purpose
i have this memory of me asking what is the application in real life, in math or science, of what she was explaining, and she seriously thought i was making fun of her and ended up ignoring me. crazy man, crazy
If the answer was not in it's improper form, the answer would be considered incorrect. If the intercept 3/2 for example, its up 3, over 2. You can't simplify to mixed mumber because the slope would be incorrect.
@@Eclipseofficiallol Thank you for your response - I'm still a bit confused why it's called "three halves" if it's not actually a fraction, like also at the 4:46 mark he says "five halves". Just trying to reference the meaning of those fractions with what I actually do know about fractions. How those fractions end up translating into a line on a graph is still an absolute mystery to me too - this is where math takes a hard left turn into oblivion lol
@@squatch253 Its not that its not a fraction, its just that in slope intercept form, they would want the slope to be in its impropee form if the slope a fraction
The b value in the second exercise of the check comperhension is -3 but not 3, because we picked two values for x and y, first one is (0,4) and second is (1,1) then (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) = -3. So this is what i got, explain me guys if i made a mistake, thanks in advance!
I have a graph, I picked the two points (-1, 0) and (1,3) the slope is 3/2. I still do not get how to make that equation. Like how did you plug in those numbers?
Very well explained. I had to dig deeper in order to understand a dsa program which attempts to find if two lines have an intersection point. There was some part of the code which I couldn't understand. Thanks to this explanation it is clear now!
Hey, Professor Dave. I think the answer for (1, 5) and (-2, 7) is y = 2/3 - 17/3 Since the formula in two ways of switching -21/3 = -4/3 + b will always give the same answer. For example, left side would be: = 21/3 -4/3 + b, then moving b to the left side to get -b = 17/3 and then multiply both side by (-1) to get b = -17/3. For the right side is the same, -21/3 = -4/3 + b. -21/3 + 4/3 = b, keeping b to the right side. To get -17/3 = b or b = -17/3.

I only have one question, Does it matter what two points on the graph you need to choose from?
I have a graph, I picked the two points (-1, 0) and (1,3) the slope is 3/2. I still do not get how to make that equation. Like how did you plug in those numbers?
To find slope use m = y - b/ x.
I subscribed on my School account i i just want too say i understand everything now thank you !!!
Is slope between y and X and X and y same
In the equation y = mx+b, I get that the M is the slope and the B is the y-intercept, but what is Y?
y is the vertical coordinate

Have u done it or do u still need its answer brother after so long
THANK YOU I HAVE A TEST ON THIS
Imagine getting carried this hard.
(Thanks for helping me Prof. Dave.)
Slope=m=tan θ
At horizontal θ is zero so that tan 0 is 0 and slope m=0
At vertical line θ os 90 degree so that tan 90 is infinite and m=undefined
Hey, Professor Dave. I think the answer for (1, 5) and (-2, 7) is y = 2/3 - 17/3
Since the formula in two ways of switching -21/3 = -4/3 + b will always give the same answer. For example, left side would be:
= 21/3 -4/3 + b, then moving b to the left side to get -b = 17/3 and then multiply both side by (-1) to get b = -17/3.
For the right side is the same, -21/3 = -4/3 + b. -21/3 + 4/3 = b, keeping b to the right side. To get -17/3 = b or b = -17/3.
