    The sticker in the lower right hand corner of the blue New York license plate is a registration renewal sticker. They started doing that in the 1960’s. The sticker made it easy for law enforcement to know at a glance if the vehicle had a current registration or not. When you renewed your registration they sent a new sticker. Some would just clean the old sticker and put the new one over top of it so there may be layers of stickers that could tell how many years that plate was in service. (Just re-watched the video and it doesn’t look like there are stacked stickers on that plate.)

    Nebraskan here. Nebraska plates change colors and designs every 6-10 years. The blue & white bus plate is simply newer than the red & cream one. 8 is the county number which is Hall County/Grand Island area.

    Man,those Wanderlodge busses are sweet. They seem to require a lot of maintenance though. Is it because their owners neglect the maintenance schedules? I imagine operating one of these bests is expensive.

    The way they loaded the tyres back onto your truck was seriously poor, they should have loaded them from the rear and pushed them forward, dropping a load like that could have damaged your truck body and suspension, so much for customer care.

    Paint a couple of box outlines on the floor for the front tire placement...then you can stand to the side of the bus and guide! Start with the bus in there.

    Hi, in your video at the tire shop you mentioned that they added balance beads. What is that and is that just a bus thing or can it be done on 1/2 ton truck tires too? Thanks and great video.

    • @DaffyDuc69
      @DaffyDuc69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually beads are used for tires that are hard or impossible to balance. Large offroad tires, truck and bus tires.

    • @stanpatterson5033
      @stanpatterson5033 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah balance beads or powders are typically used on tires where standard balancing methods (ie. wheel weights) are not possible.
      Beads are, in my opinion, the best (after wheel weights). The beads are typically tiny little silicone beads. I don't know the count or measure of quantity that gets added, there's probably a formula depending on the tire size. Silicone is not affected by moisture, unless ridiculous amounts are pumped into the tire by overly-moist compressed air. It also is the best at resisting heat breakdown. The beauty of balance beads is that they adapt to changing wear on the tire, whereas wheel weights stay where they are put, so if the tire begins to wear funny, it won't be long before the tire can become out of balance and the wheel weights could even be contributing to the problem. With beads, each time the tire comes to rest, the beads all fall to the bottom and reset, so the next time you get up to speed, they dynamically find their happy place and do what they need to do.
      Balance beads COULD be used in pretty much any on-road tires, it's just that in typical vehicle wheel and tire sizes, they just get done conventionally with wheel weights, as every tire shop just has them around. Beads, more so for bus, heavy truck applications, but sure, you could have them put in whatever you want, it's only money.

    So I’am not a bus or Diesel tech, I work on Porsche’s which are much smaller. Why do you film each bus climbing the hill? What does that show? By the way I love your channel.

    • @stanpatterson5033
      @stanpatterson5033 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is just a capture of the visiting bus climbing Bus Grease Mountain. It doesn't really count for anything official, but I guess it's for bragging rights for the more "muscular" buses that can really hustle up that hill. Long time viewers have seen a bus or two (with engine problems) that could not make the climb and had to back down and either try again, or be repaired down below. The buses typically will all climb the hill now that the main shop is up there, but in the beginning, there was only the outdoor concrete pad down below, so the buses would typically climb the hill either for the turnaround, or parking.

    We would never put that style of tread on our semi trucks steer tires (we have 11) (or my motor home) that heavy lug pattern and the tread depth make for a harsh ride and funny wearing of the tread. What was the reasoning for those tires being used, store recommendation or ???

    Are the airbags full of water and oil also? Are they drainable?

    • @stanpatterson5033
      @stanpatterson5033 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, airbags are not drainable without removing them from their mounts and inverting them to phyically drain out liquids. This is why a properly functioning air dryer is very important, to remove moisture and contaminants (oil passed by the compressor) before the compressed air gets to the storage tanks to be used by the brake or suspension systems.

      I have never seen automated underwash at a commercial truck wash. I'm not saying they don't exist, just saying that I have never seen one. Most truck washes have a crew of workers with pressure wands and they direct the pressurized water where they see fit to spray it, or wherever you tell them to concentrate it. And yes, underwash would be an extra charge in most cases. Some exceptions... When you take your heavy truck to Newfoundland, as you are leaving, they will pressure wash the underside to deter the spreading of a certain agricultural fungus that is prevalent to the Island, that they don't want spreading to the mainland. It's due to a micro-organism in the soil that can spread "potato wart", so if you look like you were driving down muddy sideroads, you get sent through the sprayer, no charge.

    CAN YOU PUT ALCOHOL IN THE SYSTEM?🙄

    • @stanpatterson5033
      @stanpatterson5033 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can, but this wouldn't solve the problem. At the point where there's THAT much water in the system, how much alcohol do you really want to add? Too much alcohol only leads to attacking the rubber lines and valves from the inside.
      Years ago, there were alcohol evaporator systems on vehicles that (for whatever reason) did not have air dryers. I have driven a few trucks that had them, and if the alcohol level isn't maintained in the cold, it's not too long before you start having problems. Of course the bigger problem is the butthead before you who used the truck, but couldn't be bothered to drain the tanks. Whether with a dryer or an alcohol evaporator system, draining air tanks IS important. Tells you of upcoming problems before you get stranded on the side of the road or in some far-away parking lot.

    • @robgm6926
      @robgm6926 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I remember years ago ( started driving in the 70s) you carried a bottle of alcohol in the truck in the winter and poured some into the your airlines before you attached them to the trailer. Wasn't uncommon back then to come across a trailer that had moisture in the system and had a frozen brake valve. They frown upon doing that these days.
