A Wintery Day Out on Ben Lomond

  • A winter hill walk on the most southerly, and most accessible, Munro in Scotland. Winter walking in the mountains is no easy feat, and this reasonably easy munro turns into a real mountaineering challenge when the snow and ice descend.

Looks great, I enjoyed watching this video. Planning to do Ben Lomond hike in March next year and it’ll be my first ever winter hike, so good to know what to expect in terms of terrain conditions and needed equipment, thanks!

Magic. I used to go up the Jura in winter, when I lived in France. Last time I got that snow was up Calton Hill, a few years ago, 20cms of snow. With the right kit, it is exhilerating. Especially if you have a wee gas burner, can find a bit shelter, and make a brew.

Cheers for watching Chris :) I've never been to Jura, but hopefully i'll get there one day!

Good to see you back out and in those conditions too.
I've been up there twice and twice I've seen nothing but the inside of a big grey cloud 😂
What crampons do you use? I don't think I've ever seen blue ones before really, so I can't think what brand they are.

It's good to be back out! My Crampons are the Simond 10 Point C1. I really like them, they feel brilliant on my feet, and haven't let me down yet :) Cheers for watching!

Good stuff @@calumpaterson123 I'm hoping the weather holds and I can get out next week but we'll see. It's always the same when I'm not at work 😂

Looks beautiful up there. I wondered whether you’d do the circular or the out and back, however I think I’d have made the same choice as yourself!

I do usually go up the tourist path and down the ptarmigan ridge, but I decided to keep it simple for myself on this day. If it wasn't as windy, I might have been tempted with the challenge of the ptarmigan ridge in snow! Thanks for watching :)

Great vibe from you. Thanks for the video. I was looking into doing this Hike while on my NC500 trip in December. Its a no go from me if Crampons are needed! I suppose most munroes will need Crampons at that time of the year? Thanks

Thanks so much for watching friend. The Munros definitely present a different challenge in winter, and it's difficult to say what you will in December right now, but as long as you are prepared I'm sure you'll have a great time :)
