It’s funny, because shortly after I picked up the XTB, the Fans Toys version was announced and I remember feeling super annoyed - but from looking at this comparison, the Fans Toys feels like a ‘side-grade’ rather than an upgrade. I love the pearlescent paint on the XTB, so I don’t feel like I need to switch out. Plus, I actually like that the dumpier proportions on the XTB are closer to the cartoon. Thank you for the comparison!
It's funny; I prefer the X-Transbots Hoist over Fanstoys, but it's the opposite when it comes to their respective Trailbreakers. (And I have the MMC yellow Trailbreaker because it brings a smile to my face since it looks so much like a robotic Hulk Hogan...)
I feel like at this point the Fans Toys metallic paint is so unique that it kinda makes the figures stand out in a mixed collection where I think you could blend XTB in with a mainline MP collection and nobody would really notice. Not debating the versus, just something I've noticed when comparing FT and XTB.
It's kind of random how shiny they go, though. Like Jive is gonna fit in with the Takara carbots like a charm, whereas Hitch is on the complete opposite end of that spectrum.
Let me tell ya, 99/100 times I upgrade from an XTB to a FT, this was the 1 off I didn’t feel the need to…. And if they had gone with the pearl white paint on the arms and legs, I might have…. I’m content to save my money… XTB stays. Thanks for the confirmation I’m not crazy Bobby, we are “crazy” together 🤣
XTB always reminds me of a ballplayer that has a ton of talent and potential and it comes out every so often but just not enough to count on them to put the team on his back when needed They are great complimentary player
I always think that too and each new figure I always hope they fulfill it but I’m usually disappointed with the loose joints/tolerances, less die cast and weaker design joints/cheap parts than FT.
Doesn’t upset me at all. I buy everything FansToys, but I’m finding more and more they are staying in their box as they aren’t making revolutionary improvements that I have come to expect from them. That, and the competition has improved so much. XTB isn’t perfect, but they have improved so much over the years and I appreciate that passion and effort. Most of the other guys have given up the fight. Also, could be wrong but I think the XTB offering has gone up in price. I’m thinking the mold mates were originally $99.99. Either way, a great but still at current prices in my opinion. Thanks for the comparison. Enjoyed this one and it’s surprising result.
I wish Fans Toys went with the full silver or white pearlescent paint for the limbs. They look like business on the top and a party on the bottom 😂 XTB looks aesthetically pleasing because of the uniformity in the limb color but the chunkiness is throwing me off 🤔
See this is where i like some more realistic sculpts. Like the hood on xtb. They even got the water drip slots on the cowl correct. How it would actually be on the toyota. That stuff is fun to see sometimes.
I agree with you big time Bobby, I think this one is one of the weakest, if not the weakest, release from FansToys and recently we saw a decrease in the quality of their figures. Look like they haven't finished to slide down the chute... :/
One of those situations where if I already had the XTB, I'd stick with it, but having neither, I'll buy the FT because their stuff just feels more professional, more.....right to me. Both are great, though neither perfect. Looking forward to seeing if Takara makes theirs a chubbster.
Hoist must have been the 2nd or 3rd Transformers I got as a kid. I started with the Badcube version which really captured the esence of Hoist in alt mode. I then swapped to the Xtransbots cartoon version and now the Fanstoys version. I think FT brings back stronger memories of owning Hoist than any of the others, somehow captures the essence of the character the most and, thank goodness, doesn't look like the cartoon model to a T making it much more aesthetically pleasing.
I've got the Fanstoys, but I have a slight preference for the way the X-Transbots looks. Problem is I'm always kind of afraid to buy XTB stuff due to their QC issues, bad tolerances, and overengineering.
I didn’t get the xtransbots. I got the other one. Not sure what company did it. Like it more on the reviews. The Ft is on the way to me. And will go on the G2/movie shelf. That movie shelf is filling up with Ft. Im thinking it will be a Fanstoys shelf soon.
I like the vs even if I don't agree with the results and I am not a FansToys junkie. I literally have one FansToys in my collection and this Hoist will be my second one.

Muahaha! We're slowly corrupting you into the XTB cult...
Nah, they're both awesome, either way.
i'm in the paen camp myself, and for the price to it's a no brainer
I actually would get x-transbots over fanstoys if I didn't have the mmc version already

You know of course in 6 months to a year FT will be releasing a toon version.
I have the XTB. I hate transforming it, but otherwise it’s well built and looks great in both modes.

Exact same situation for me!

Complimentary player. That's a great way to put it. I have a few xtb scattered throughout my collection. But definitely need to have some FT as well.

The black legs on the fanstoys throws me off
I go for more toon so I like XTB. I replace when I have to in this case I will stick to XTB. The head is off just doesn't remind me of hoist on the FT
I agree with this one!
I'm a Ft fanboy , but this one I had to pass on cuz I think xtb is one of xtbs best!

The picture looks like the battle of the circumcised vs the uncircumcised.
Bobby "loves the alien face mask accessory" Face!
I have the MMC with FT on the way so looking forward to the upgrade there. Same as the Trailbreaker situation.

Great review.
Keep using the sunbow chart! The charts people make on their own are their own views that they should keep to themselves.
Im going to paint my FTs legs white. Not sure what they were thinking by doing black
No housekeeping, now what am I gonna complain about.
Okay, i have the original XTB hoist, so not the toon and i must say.... he is staying and the FT goes back into the box. who would have know that
01:08 Very nice..
Too many ties for a figure that costs half of the other
Agree on all points here!
This is what I was afraid of... I was really liking X Transbots... but the size just fits a bit better with Fanstoys.
I've always preferred the MMC to the XTB. Thanks Bobby.

Great video wish my mp shockwave would have been this good it was tampered with and one of the legs broke off right out of the box

Upset Win!
It’s not criticism but most of the xtb points come from Bobby preferring the real world details more then the simpler cartoon details
Fanstoys FTW 💯
Hate that chrome. Cant wait how FansToy's Blaster gonna turn out.
$190!? I’d just take the $24 Hasbro, as I just don’t see the value! Y’all third party folks are ballers!
Out of curiosity, how do you think MMC's Artifex holds up to these guys?
He's probably the most fun to transform, but has the least amount of paint, and some of the paint it does have, has a tendency to chip on mine
I love mine and have not had a single problem with it. I think it kills the XTB.
I would've made them fight to the death
Four to two
4-3
Wanna sell me the XTB? =P
Sure. Dm me somewhere
@@MythsAndHeroes Just did on FB Messenger.
I've been waiting for this. Oh yes..and FIRST!
