I absolutely love Kool & The Gang....One, of my first favorite songs when I was very young was Celebration!
Me too! Early 80s I was 3 or 4 and it was constantly on the radio in St. Louis as the Cardinals were winning the 82 World Series!
This whole album EMERGENCY was a banger. FRESH, MISLED,CHERISH, EMERGENCY.
There best music were their 70's funk music like "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging"
All of those you mentioned plus “Tonight”
Misled is a great song.
My favorite song from Kool & The Gang is "Celebration" That is the next song you have to do.
I’m sure they’ve heard that one. Everyone’s heard that one.
While you are 100% correct that it’s a must listen, I’ve come to hate that song.
I'm not sure anyone could have gone to a wedding and NOT heard Celebration-- it's like the law that it MUST be played!
"Tonight" and "Too Hot" are my favorites by them. Both funky

The lyrics of that first verse are so much on point, I would urge you to take them to heart. I lost my soulmate January 2021 to Covid, and what he expresses is how I felt about her throughout the years. Needless to say, I'd trade everything for one more day. So, yeah, cherish the love, 'cause it's everything!

Their Catalog is Amazing - I think you will like "Fresh" and "misled" upbeat. Duet with Regina Belle (Ballad) is great RB song

BTW, that little boy in the video (5:09) is actor Deon Richmond who played Rudy Huxtable's lil' friend, "Bud" (Kenny) on The Cosby Show back in the 80s.

The lead singer of Kool and the Gang is so under rated in my opinion I mean the whole band is amazing but I believe they deserve more credit. I have always compared the lead vocals voice to Michael Jackson....this is my most favorite song from this band just because it makes bring back so much memories of the 80's for me...
There's 70s Kool & the Gang and there's 80s Kool & the Gang - love both. This was a huge international hit for them in the mid 80s.
Both versions of the band were great..being older i prefer the 70's versio a bit better..

How they haven't done Celebration yet is a mystery to me.
Back in the 60's there was a group called The Association who also had a song Called "Cherish". They had some great harmonies and their sound is similar to The Beach Boys. They were also from California. Some of their other songs I liked were "Windy", "Never My Love" and "Along Comes Mary". For that last song, I like the video of their performance on The Smothers Brothers Show. They did a very unique introduction of the band members before playing the song.
'Cherish" and "Never My Love" are the best.

Madonna also released an 80s single titled "Cherish" w/ a music video on the beach as well. Both hits peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

You might want to check out some earlier Kool &The Gang from the 70's, "Jungle Boogie" is a funk classic!
You can't go wrong with Kool and the Gang! Fresh, Joanna, and Cherish are my favorite songs.
Kool and the Gang has SO many great songs. You should try "Misled" next, a more uptempo, almost rockin' song.

This song was a great choice to listen to today. I had a very rough day & I need to remember to be thankful for all the blessings I have received.
This was one of the greats! That feeling! Oh that feeling of being in love in the 80’s! Puts me in my feels. Please consider “Everyday People” by Arrested Development (Not Sly). Watch the official music video version and know that it’s as 90’s as you can get when it comes to hip hop. The message is great and stands the test of time.

I absolutely love Kool and the Gang! This song brings back such memories. I had my first slow dance with a boy to this song. It was at a Teen Dance Club and I was 13.😄
Early Kool And The Gang is where it's at! "Hollywood Swingin'", "Summer Madness", "Jungle Boogie" etc. demonstrates their original funky side! This later stuff was mainstream and crossed over. Very popular in the 80's, but the early stuff was what we were listening to back in the day. Soul Train era KATG! Superior musicianship and funky style is what they were initially known for.
Our (old heads) interpretation of funk versus later generations seem to be vastly different. Kool and The Gang before JT is funk to me.
@@pattyduke3079 Nothing is funky present day, so when younger people hear anything with a somewhat groovy beat, they assume that it's funk. That's those that lived through it have to teach 'em! 🙌 😉😁
I am just tickled by truth in this thread and so far the first two replies! The later Kool & The Gang successfully knew how to make some "crossover/pop" money, but unfortunately they left the Funk behind. lol

Still so many great Kool & the Gang funky songs for you to get to including; Hollywood Swinging, Take My Heart, Jungle Boogie, Too Hot, Let's Go Dancin'(Ooh La La La), and Misled.

I'm glad you listened to the correct version of "Cherish." There's another one that's slightly different, and not as good IMO. The lead singer doesn't sing "Yes I do" in the other one.
You haven't listened to CELEBRATION yet. When you do, you'll forget the other faster songs. That's their best "fast" song, and a great party tune!!!
I love Kool and the Gang, they had so many hits in the late seventies, and the eighties was their decade! All the greatest bands can switch up their style! If you were not versatile back then you may not make it too far! Check out their hit “Celebration”, it was the party song of the decade!❤❤

My boys. The song that put Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis on another level. Even better that it was a love song written for a rap movie.
I love love love this song. It has such a wonderful message and the video is so beautiful and then it's like she's a mermaid and goes back to the water. But the message we should cherish every moment with whomever you are with and cherish our life because it can be gone in an instant.

Amber and Jay , there don't seem to be any real romantic smooth songs anymore ? Maybe it's just me. I love this and it's so smooth and perect background to a Summer evening (even though it's pouring with rain here in UK right now😅) nice words and very appropriate re: cherishing our loved ones❤
I do know of 1, by a band called Chromeo, although it is 9 years old now, it's called "Old 45's" very funky, lots of inspo from bands like Kool and the Gang. Check it out!

Their biggest hit, you still have not done, CELEBRATION. Also SUMMER MADNESS is phenomenal.
My favorite Kool & The Gang songs are before their more "pop" period of hits. Summer Madness, Jungle Boogie, Jungle Jazz, N.T. and Hollywood Swinging were all mostly instrumental songs that really showed how dope the band was. Horns and basslines galore!!
That’s my favorite era of KATG. They’re great through many different styles though.
@@waynecanning4122 Yeah.. growing up it was all about the JT era. "Celebration" was probably the first song of theirs that I loved. Then as I went deeper into their catalog I fell in love with their early stuff. I could listen to that for hours on end.

There is a 60s soft rock four part harmony rock group named The Association. They also wrote a song called “Cherish.” Every teenage boy who has a crush loves this song

Check out a song by the same name , Cherish , by David Cassidy . You have heard in him the Partridge Family when you reacted to their song I Think I Love you . David starred in the TV series wrote and recorded songs for the series as well as having a solo career . Amber , your mum will remember him as THE teen idol of the 70s . Cherish and another song from the same album Could It Be Forever are worth checking out .

I had somehow forgotten this song. Thanks for the reaction. When I see Cherish as a song title I think of The Association. You guys should react to this: Cherish by The Association. Amber would probably like it a little more than Jay for they are smooth as butter.
Me too. The Association vocals were smooth and the harmonies were wonderful. In addition to “Cherish” they should give a listen to “Never My Love” and “Along comes Mary”.
Y'all are debating over Kool & The Gang after their sound became geared more for the "pop charts" starting with "Celebration" and going forward (and they did make a k!lling with that strategy! lol)...But if you want to hear the earlier Funk that put them on the map, try these: ("Hollywood Swinging"..."Funky Stuff"...."Open Sesame"). No lead singer, they all sang together as a group primarily. And by the way, the "horns" on ("Open Sesame") are just Amazing!!...Good reaction!
Kool and the Gang are such a party group, but they could get you on the floor for slow jams too.
