KOOL AND THE GANG - JOANNA from 1983 from Basslines to Horns and Drums and Iconic vocals ,this definitely is another song from their greatest songs of all time.
BTW, that little boy in the video (5:09) is actor Deon Richmond who played Rudy Huxtable's lil' friend, "Bud" (Kenny) on The Cosby Show back in the 80s.
The lyrics of that first verse are so much on point, I would urge you to take them to heart. I lost my soulmate January 2021 to Covid, and what he expresses is how I felt about her throughout the years. Needless to say, I'd trade everything for one more day. So, yeah, cherish the love, 'cause it's everything!
SO RIGHT...lost hubby in Dec 2022...so many tunes hit so much differently, after that. Hard, sometimes, to listen to what I used to consider my "old music friends"...makes being a music freak difficult!! PRAYERS are with you, Hon!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏
Back in the 60's there was a group called The Association who also had a song Called "Cherish". They had some great harmonies and their sound is similar to The Beach Boys. They were also from California. Some of their other songs I liked were "Windy", "Never My Love" and "Along Comes Mary". For that last song, I like the video of their performance on The Smothers Brothers Show. They did a very unique introduction of the band members before playing the song.
The lead singer of Kool and the Gang is so under rated in my opinion I mean the whole band is amazing but I believe they deserve more credit. I have always compared the lead vocals voice to Michael Jackson....this is my most favorite song from this band just because it makes bring back so much memories of the 80's for me...
I absolutely love Kool and the Gang! This song brings back such memories. I had my first slow dance with a boy to this song. It was at a Teen Dance Club and I was 13.😄
Still so many great Kool & the Gang funky songs for you to get to including; Hollywood Swinging, Take My Heart, Jungle Boogie, Too Hot, Let's Go Dancin'(Ooh La La La), and Misled.
This was one of the greats! That feeling! Oh that feeling of being in love in the 80’s! Puts me in my feels. Please consider “Everyday People” by Arrested Development (Not Sly). Watch the official music video version and know that it’s as 90’s as you can get when it comes to hip hop. The message is great and stands the test of time.
Way to go Amber! Ladies Night is the Best song from this Funky Band !! I fell in Love with that Song the moment I first heard it years ago 💜 Kool and the Gang has so much Great Music 🥰
This is my favorite Kool & the gang song! It was not only a number two smash for them on billboard but it was actually the number one adult contemporary song for the entire 1980s decade!
Early Kool And The Gang is where it's at! "Hollywood Swingin'", "Summer Madness", "Jungle Boogie" etc. demonstrates their original funky side! This later stuff was mainstream and crossed over. Very popular in the 80's, but the early stuff was what we were listening to back in the day. Soul Train era KATG! Superior musicianship and funky style is what they were initially known for.
@@pattyduke3079 Nothing is funky present day, so when younger people hear anything with a somewhat groovy beat, they assume that it's funk. That's those that lived through it have to teach 'em! 🙌 😉😁
I am just tickled by truth in this thread and so far the first two replies! The later Kool & The Gang successfully knew how to make some "crossover/pop" money, but unfortunately they left the Funk behind. lol
Another great Kool & The Gang song is "Too Hot". And for a good funky track...try the group Lakeside and their version of Fantastic Voyage from the early 80's.
I love the sentiment of the song. We take too much for granted, assuming that it's always gonna be there ...but you have a life lesson and you realise that nothing lasts forever so - Cherish it
I love love love this song. It has such a wonderful message and the video is so beautiful and then it's like she's a mermaid and goes back to the water. But the message we should cherish every moment with whomever you are with and cherish our life because it can be gone in an instant.
My favorite Kool & The Gang songs are before their more "pop" period of hits. Summer Madness, Jungle Boogie, Jungle Jazz, N.T. and Hollywood Swinging were all mostly instrumental songs that really showed how dope the band was. Horns and basslines galore!!
@@waynecanning4122 Yeah.. growing up it was all about the JT era. "Celebration" was probably the first song of theirs that I loved. Then as I went deeper into their catalog I fell in love with their early stuff. I could listen to that for hours on end.
Getting older now (63) but this brings back the free and easy days of the 70's and 80's like no other. Keep going you two. A joy to watch as ever. Regards M. S.
KOOL & THE GANG was some "GET-DOWN" MUSIC, back in the day - and, I think it's STILL AWESOME!!! This, their softer side, was so special, as well! THANKS for REACTING to them!! 😍❤❤❤❤
Misled - Kool and the Gang. J/A very confident both of you will like this top 10 music charter that is soo funky, rock and upbeat! Love to see you react to it!
I love Kool and the Gang, they had so many hits in the late seventies, and the eighties was their decade! All the greatest bands can switch up their style! If you were not versatile back then you may not make it too far! Check out their hit “Celebration”, it was the party song of the decade!❤❤
Y'all are debating over Kool & The Gang after their sound became geared more for the "pop charts" starting with "Celebration" and going forward (and they did make a k!lling with that strategy! lol)...But if you want to hear the earlier Funk that put them on the map, try these: ("Hollywood Swinging"..."Funky Stuff"...."Open Sesame"). No lead singer, they all sang together as a group primarily. And by the way, the "horns" on ("Open Sesame") are just Amazing!!...Good reaction!
Kool and the Gang are just fantastic, but I do love their more funky dancier numbers. How about the Spinners ‘Working my way back to you girl’. Billy Ocean ‘When the going gets tough’. Earth wind and fire ‘After the love has gone’ (this is wonderful live!) Musical Youth ‘Pass the dutchie’
They were huge in the 80's and they were one of my faves, this in particular. One of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard. This version cut out the sax solo, which never failed to set the mood. This video was filmed on Jones Beach on the south shore of Long Island, NY. I lived 15 minutes from there by car, even better was taking my boat there and anchored on the bay side was the best time, we walked across the street and was on this beach. God I miss the 80's, the happiest time of my life.
Have just checked you guys out and you’re reactions are awesome. I’m now 62 and I get so much pleasure seeing younger folk loving the stuff I grew up on, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Toto, Journey etc ❤️❤️❤️
Saw Kool and the Gang in London mid 80s, wonderful concert great band. Please, please, please cover Odessey's 'Native New Yorker' and 'Inside Out' 🙏 🇬🇧🙏
There is a 60s soft rock four part harmony rock group named The Association. They also wrote a song called “Cherish.” Every teenage boy who has a crush loves this song
One if the greatest things about the 60’s though the 90’s, this was the we of sweet love songs( and heartbreaking songs too), out if all of the greatest music that we experienced during those decades, I’ll say it again and again, those long songs and power ballads are those ones we most cherish, especially as some of us have gotten older in these times, we know that love songs sung with heart and feelings are not popular these last 20 years, so it’s so sad young people can only have our classic love songs to listen to.
Always love Kool & The Gang! Looks like J warmed up to it, even though it was a 'mushy/slow' song! This is an easy one to sing harmony to! Great Reaction, You Guys :)
I'm glad you listened to the correct version of "Cherish." There's another one that's slightly different, and not as good IMO. The lead singer doesn't sing "Yes I do" in the other one. You haven't listened to CELEBRATION yet. When you do, you'll forget the other faster songs. That's their best "fast" song, and a great party tune!!!
KOOL AND THE GANG - JOANNA from 1983 from Basslines to Horns and Drums and Iconic vocals ,this definitely is another song from their greatest songs of all time.
Joanna is my favorite song from them.
Well since my daughter’s name is
Jo Anna , I’m very fond of it ☺️😊
Also Kool and the Gang - Too Hot.
Misled
"Jones vs.Jones"😊
I absolutely love Kool & The Gang....One, of my first favorite songs when I was very young was Celebration!
Me too! Early 80s I was 3 or 4 and it was constantly on the radio in St. Louis as the Cardinals were winning the 82 World Series!
BTW, that little boy in the video (5:09) is actor Deon Richmond who played Rudy Huxtable's lil' friend, "Bud" (Kenny) on The Cosby Show back in the 80s.
This whole album EMERGENCY was a banger. FRESH, MISLED,CHERISH, EMERGENCY.
There best music were their 70's funk music like "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging"
All of those you mentioned plus “Tonight”
Misled is a great song.
"Tonight" and "Too Hot" are my favorites by them. Both funky
Them all are funky!
The lyrics of that first verse are so much on point, I would urge you to take them to heart. I lost my soulmate January 2021 to Covid, and what he expresses is how I felt about her throughout the years. Needless to say, I'd trade everything for one more day. I’m so sorry ❤ Thank you for sharing this
I'm *very* grateful that I've managed to learn at least one lesson during my lifetime. "The most important things in Life *aren't* things at all."
I’m sorry for your loss. You’re so right about cherishing the love we have. ❤🌹
Right on! 😣 😪

Misled is one of my favorite songs by Kool & the Gang. I love Cherish too. Great reaction! 💜
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Celebration" and "Joanna" !!
How they haven't done Celebration yet is a mystery to me.
I love Kool & the Gang so much!!! Loved this album!
One of the best love songs ever made
My favorite song from Kool & The Gang is "Celebration" That is the next song you have to do.
I’m sure they’ve heard that one. Everyone’s heard that one.
While you are 100% correct that it’s a must listen, I’ve come to hate that song.
I'm not sure anyone could have gone to a wedding and NOT heard Celebration-- it's like the law that it MUST be played!
You can't go wrong with Kool and the Gang! Fresh, Joanna, and Cherish are my favorite songs.
There's 70s Kool & the Gang and there's 80s Kool & the Gang - love both. This was a huge international hit for them in the mid 80s.
Both versions of the band were great..being older i prefer the 70's versio a bit better..
"Celebration" is one of my favorites
Summer Madness is my favorite song by Kool and the Gang.

Their Catalog is Amazing - I think you will like "Fresh" and "misled" upbeat. Duet with Regina Belle (Ballad) is great RB song
Oh yes - i agree
They've already done "Fresh."
I'd throw "Tonight" into that mix as well myself.
Madonna also released an 80s single titled "Cherish" w/ a music video on the beach as well. Both hits peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I love her “Cherish” song!
Cherish was also a song by the Association in the late 60s
I bought the 45 of this song for my nephew back in the day. He loved this song when the video came on. I still love it. It's a great wedding song.
Kool and the Gang has SO many great songs. You should try "Misled" next, a more uptempo, almost rockin' song.
Takes me back to the 80s at the roller rink. last skate couples😂
My favorite group ever i loved every song they sang . James Taylor has a beautiful voice .
Loved this song from the first time I ever heard it when it was released.
You might want to check out some earlier Kool &The Gang from the 70's, "Jungle Boogie" is a funk classic!
This song was a great choice to listen to today. I had a very rough day & I need to remember to be thankful for all the blessings I have received.
I can feel the 80's in this song . Still plays to this day in Grocery stores across the US

Celebration is my favorite.
WOO-HOO ! ❤
Give LIONEL RICHIE’s “YOU ARE” a gander. Great song!

Still so many great Kool & the Gang funky songs for you to get to including; Hollywood Swinging, Take My Heart, Jungle Boogie, Too Hot, Let's Go Dancin'(Ooh La La La), and Misled.
They have only done 4 EWF. None in a year.
Kool & The Gang - Let's Go Dancing (Ooh, La, La, La)
This is my personal fave. My wedding song. Thank you so much for playing it. Love you two.
DeBarge - Who's Holding Donna Now 1985 official video ,yet another great song from the mid 80s by this awsome talented group.

My era yet again!! You'd love Level 42 Something about you. The best bass player out there. 😁 ❤️
One of their career best ballads. Great reminder of how love should be shared..in sentimental words.
"Celebration" is my favorite Kool and the Gang song.

Their biggest hit, you still have not done, CELEBRATION. Also SUMMER MADNESS is phenomenal.
