MK3 VR6 Auto to Manual Wiring Changes

  • When looking for wiring diagrams and information for changing my Automatic car to a Manual I found a lot of conflicting information. Here I talk about what I needed to do to get my car running properly.
    The Bentley manual only seems to cover the older OBD1 versions and google came up with all sorts of odd stuff.
    This is what I did and the wiring and programming changes I made with OBD Eleven

    Im actually doing a conversion right now on my vr6 from auto to manual plus a heater core change. it is exactly as you described as ive done this conversion on a 2.0L mk3 cabrio same ordeal again electrical is the same change both euro spec cars. Excellent presentation with accurate info. Keep it up my friend.

      Awesome! Thanks for watching and glad to know I didn't make it up like half the info I found on the conversion online. Cheers!

      OH WHAT FUN, a heater core change... :/ The one job where you soon find out why it's call the heater core. Core as in the centre of the universe. I swear VW engineers were sitting around one day and thought "hey, I got this heater core, let's be complete idiots and build the entire car around it so when, NOT if, the time comes to replace it, you'll have to take apart pretty much the whole car just to get at it".

    Didn't sound too bad of a job there Jonathan in getting the wiring issue sorted out. I'm sure that your information will help a lot of people out there who are changing over from an automatic to manual transmission.

    • @Badgertronix
      @Badgertronix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +stuzman it was nice and straightforward once I had worked out how it all worked and stopped trying to follow the guides I found on the internet. Cheers Terry

    I would expect the tachometer to work just fine, since it's running off the crank sensor. The speedo however is definitely an anomaly. Can't say I've ever seen an 01M with a 2-pin speed sensor; they're all 3-pin here in the States, and the FDR between the auto and manual is different enough to have to adjust the speedo.

    • @Badgertronix
      @Badgertronix  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +rhkips I'm not sure on the speedo accuracy yet but it definitely works and feels vaguely accurate. I thought it was 2 pin but I'll double check. Cheers

      VW commercial. Farfegnugen. He took off the farf and added your name. Driving enjoyment. So it's a compliment, from you we get Badger enjoyment and that includes Charlie two2 too tree3.

    • @Badgertronix
      @Badgertronix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MostlymoparIH yes indeed and now my car is finished I can do some farfegnugen. Charlie has already been for a ride in it. He enjoyed his cameo at the end of the vid. Cheers

      Badgertronix I've seen many variations of that word over the years... had to be done, and it fits / suits the build! The cameo is always appreciated! =)

      +Thomas EXOVCDS it's a good word! A fine cameo although the Charlie one after it is my favourite

    Hi, I'm currently doing this in my 93 corrado and had a question. Did you just tap into the ignition switch wiring and ran the wire to the fuse box? Assuming you put the spade connector in the same color slot.

      @Badgertronix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember now, it was a few years back.

    Things I never thought about. I did have a neutral safety switch go bad once. They lead to loss of hair.

      All I can really tell you is that removing the pedals sucks so bad it makes you hate life. You just struggle and struggle until they come out. That's how it went for me. Enjoy
