I absolutely love my Kraton 4S, once I replaced the rear diff with the HR metal ones I didn't have any more issues, it's by far the most durable RC I've got ... and I've got an X-Maxx :P
I got a Kraton 4S as my first RC car a couple months after it first came out. I LOVE it, and HATE it! Haha. Out of the box it is an engineering disaster. It can't actually handle 4S power and several things, especially the rear differential and driveshaft, will regularly break on 4S power. The simple and cheap solution too the Kraton 4S is to peel off the 4S sticker and replace it with the 3S sticker to remind you to only use it on 3S. With the wide stance and big tires, it barely turns. That can be fixed with lots of upgrades. Get a V3 Big Rock! The lesson I learned was to never buy a first generation newly designed car. Wait for the "playtesting" (I'm a game designer) and at least version 2. When it is running... it is unique and awesome! I don't even like my Typhon 3S compared to the Kraton "3S". The Kraton 4S is amazing! It's so fun to drive, and with the tires it comes with on loose dirt is it a donut/stunt machine... but it breaks A LOT in a lot of different ways. My Kraton 4S is very special and sentimental too me for many reasons I won't go into. The short version is that I bought it right before I went through 2 years of hell... and every once in a while while going through hell I would stop by a park and drive the Kraton. It's already half-way there with the upgrades, and as things break I'll finish making it actually work... with the Hot Racing metal rear differential. It's a great car, but Arrma should discontinue it as they have. To make it actually work, it's a $700 car. M&M
The more I think about, since not many are likely to spend lots of money to keep their Kraton 4S's going... someday "my baby" will be a rarely seen RC car. I like that!
I love the k4 but i spent alot of money on that car! I gave up on it so many times but now its a beast. Hot racing diffs and yokes hd driveshafts 6s kraton shocks. Metal spur red lock tight on slipper strew go tight then back off half a turn let it dry then watch it fly!100%💪

Kev I reckon your Kraton 4S is probably the reliable beast you’ve heard about. You’re often driving boxfresh models with no wear but your 4S is 2nd hand so who knows how the last guy treated and maintained it? With the teething troubles out the way, you’ll have a good little basher in your stable. When Arrma eventually re-release the Kraton 4S to compete with the Maxx (COME ON ARRMA) I’ll probably buy one
I love mt Kraton 4s. I never had any issues out of mine except for the slipper clutch. My dad has one too and had issues with the drive shafts but we replaced them and had no issues at all. He also has the 6s wheels and tires on his and I think that is the issue with him breaking drive shafts. The only upgrades I did to mine is steel drive shafts, servo and I put my Spektrum DX3 Pro radio on it. I do have a Mamba Monster X on the way for it. No fault of the ESC that is on it, I want to be able to tune it a bit better. I have stock bearings in it, stock A-arms and such. No issues except the slipper clutch
I did forget to mention, I did put the Outcast Body on mine so we didn't confuse the two trucks while driving. We both had the DBoots wheels and tires on them. Mine is the correct size and Dad's is the 6s sized.
Im happy that kev didnt make the kraton 4s look good for the video. My experiences with it were very bad. I bought it because I was a huge fan of the 3s line and I wanted something bigger and faster, with the same durability. I had it for about a 2 weeks before I gave up on it. In those 2 weeks, the slipper came loose, twice, the pinion came off, the chassis broke, the wheels flew off on its first drive, taking the hexes and pin with it, the input gear and crown gear in the diff stripped, twice, the fan on the motor broke, and ofcourse the remote was complete garbage and I had to get my own. Oh yeah and also my lipos died which is my fault but still frustraitng. Basically, I could never drive it, without some random bs going wrong. Which is a shame, because I never had such issues with my 3s senton. Im glad you cant get them anymore.
@@TheflyingkiwiRC for sure, from what ive seen, the maxx is great. If youve got the money to spend, the maxx is worth it. However, the 3s line is a fantastic entry point to the world of bashing, especially with the new v3 updates. Dont get the vorteks tho.
@@DieLuke187 Vorteks why? Mine is great 👍 I prefer it to driving my Big Rock because it handles beautifully. I've had no more issues with it than I had with my BR. It's just a Granite with different tyres and shocks so what could possible be bad about it?
@@TheflyingkiwiRC its not BAD, but i woudnt reccomend it because its too expensive. It has avc which I dont care about and a diffrent remote which make it more expensive, shorter shocks, narrow a-arms and not the best tires, with 14mm hexes. In my opnion, the 3s typhon is the best, because it comes with good 17mm tires and hexes with proper wheel nuts, it has an aerodynamic body wide a arms and its almost 100€ cheaper. Thats why I think the vorteks is the worst 3s arrma.
Little advice you can put an inner bearing race over your drive shaft joint and it won't pop out anymore! ! Good truck mines still alive after 3 years just lock the slipper or it will drive you nuts. 👍👍 Also you should really try some CNHL batteries I been into those lately super happy with them bro over 200c burst.
Kev instead of buying tools seperately get hold of one of the big tool suppliers and buy one of their big tool chest and top box either already full of tools or some do custom sets you tell them what you need or are using the set for and works out way cheaper I have done this before and it was a long time before I had to buy any specialist tools,
The 4 s is build like the 3s line. I had no idea. I have 4s systems in my big rock and it’s insane. The big rock will need bragger shocks and hot racing motor plate. 20$ on eBay! Indestructible!!!

Im about to get alot of hate but its ok. Is Arrma made by Harley Davidson? Their reliability is identical. Awesome for a short ride to annoy all the neighbors but you have to spend more time working on it than enjoying it.
The main problem with the 3s/4s line are the plastic diffs… with big tires and 4s they wear out quick. And the upgrade diffs should fit better as they do.
There are some metal driveshafts that are on back order for it. My granite has the same issues. Also just noticed the kraton is the same kit as the granite just different electronics and wing
Cool vid Kev. Not a bad little truck, aftermarket shafts would help surely? Personally, I'd go the Kraton 6s out of all the Kraton range. Just seems to be the sweet spot for performance/reliability to me.
I have got a arrma kraton 4s for a year now and it has 3 big problems the first 2 you already found the slipper clutch sucks and keeps going loose and if are not careful it gets so hot that it melds everything en the axles keep breaking so i put cvd sliders on it and the third problem is that i keep stripping the difs
Whilst the Camarillo is cool, why not get a corvette c8 body, probably fit the chassis more. That’s for the limitless, and yessss absolutely put that motor in that beast

I’ve got the 4S. Needs a new servo at the moment. Still rips on a 3S pack. Many many parts between the 3S granite are Interchangeable.
