Guys.... come on 🤪 it is an engine not a toy electric motor. It has to warm up before bashing and needs to be adjusted (and broken in “properly”). Nitro is what the hobby is about. It takes “play” to an activity (transforms a “play thing” to an actual hobby). Plz just take the time and patience to learn something about them. You will have more fun then you ever will with an electric. If you don’t want to show the break in process then just don’t film it. The goal should be to encourage growth in the hobby. Not knowing how to change the oil in your car (for example) is not an excuse to let it run dry and seize up. Then blame it on the car/manufacture and say that it sucks. On that note, Kev I love to see you exploring more of the cars/trucks out there. Gives all of us a chance to see stuff we may not have yet. I’m looking forward to an update on the 203Mph and the new Nitro touring car you got. Hehe. 😋
Wonder how many Nitro's people will get this christmas where they just fill it up with fuel and thrash it until something breaks, doomed to be retired to the cupboard for 10 years.
@@TheNamesArif no no. I’m making more of a general statement to the majority of Nitro haters in the hobby right now. There is a place for both nitro and electric. I have both and they both are fun and have strengths in different ways Obviously or at least it appears that Nitro it is a love hate relationship with Kev to a degree but, he makes it very clear that he enjoys it. Not everyone is going to like everything others do/have. It is important that folks like Kev, etc shows the good/bad but, just make sure comments about like, “it sucks” or “it’s the best in the world” without actually learning and trying doesn’t help things. Also “the best” is very much a relative term. I personally think Kev does a good job to show the pros/cons without just saying “it sucks”. I just hope folks watch the whole video to get his full impression instead of stoping the vid halfway through. LoL
I know what you mean Kev, there's something about Nitro that makes the electric cars feel a bit soulless. Mick tuned that thing perfect. Amazing what a difference a good tune can make.
Yea i had got a nitro for my first rc then i used electric for like 3 years then I started up my trophy 4.6 after it was sitting and it was just such a vibe
If someone tossed me the controller I wouldn't say no, but I"m not picking up a part time job of owning a nitro r/c again though lol. This video is the exact experience many t-maxx owners had circa early 2000's. Spend a whole morning tuning, break a part, fix a part, another half tank of gas, break a part etc. Frustrating experience. Remember swapping the crystals and having runaways? hahahaha
Everyone wants a Nitro after they have a shot of yours until they see how many things go wrong in the average bashing session. Last time I took mine out I accidentally hit a car tyre, bent the front left driveshaft, took the front shafts out to make it 2WD and kept driving, then the engine mounts came loose and started to strip the gears, fixed that then the OWB went on the roto start.... it never ends. Found out the hard way too that the safety cutoff is useless if the servo dies on full throttle, just pray it happens in a space you can do donuts in until you can pick it up. Still good fun though.
I still run ony nitro. I've learned the secret is to just take at least 3 cars everywhere. Then your guaranteed at least an hour of running ( including tinkering time) before their all dead. Motor issues are actually pretty damn rare after learning how to deal with them for so long. But just all the vibration invites bits and pices to come lose. Clutch, gearbox and basically anything that can come lose is usualy what takes them down. And of course you can't red locktite everything. Oh yeh... and curbs/poles... that takes a lot of them down. But you can't blame the car.
Only thing i dont like nitro.s is they sound like someone's got a red hot poker up their rear end they always seem to be reving so high when theres no throttle on too but each to their own
What an awesome truck! I don't miss the headache of messing with a nitro RC engine but it's a really cool experience seeing and hearing this little engine screaming and shifting gears!
Dude Kev... That is the first time ever that I didn't fast forward through a product pitch. You sir are hilarious! Nothing funnier than Kev pitching ball products!
I’ve always loved to work on mechanical things and getting too old (56 now) and crippled to work on real cars or motorcycles much anymore… So I was thinking of getting into a new “scaled down” hobby, and RC cars have always appealed to me… After watching your video about a half dozen times I decided I would buy this Kyosho monster truck - and last week - I ordered one!! Nitro version, of course!! Along with all the other stuff one needs to run it. The truck is supposed to be here tomorrow. I decided to show my wife this video so she could see what I bought - every time I watched it, I fast forwarded past the manscape thing… I didn’t when we both watched. So we were both a little surprised to find out there’s a kit available to help me shave my balls and ass!! Anyway, new to the RC hobby, ordered my 1st RC monster truck, and decided to do so mostly because of your videos!! Just wanted to say Thank You and hope you keep doing what your doing!! Can’t wait for that monster truck to get here… (-:

little tip for running a nitro when its cold, preheat the engine before staring it. I always use a thick towl and wrap it around the engine so it is a bit warmer when starting it.
I can remember when these first released. Drooled over one for two years. I don't recall the 3spd trans. I do remember debating if going nitro was worth losing the 4 wheel steering of the electric model. It was early days of .21 engines... and it was a huge deal when they came out, because the only previous competitor was the .15 2wd Nitro Brute, or a Clod Buster notro conversion kit.
Pro tuner here. Set your LSN so the engine stalls after 5 secs when you pinch the fuel tubing a couple of inches away from the carb. Then set your HSN so your engine is running around 230 degrees F. Make all adjustments in 1/8th turn increments and you're golden.
I might have to buy one of these , recently got into the scale monster trucks with the Losi LMT , and I’ve always been a nitro guy. Looks fun great video too!
Those kyosho brand made in china engines weren't too flash, the o-rings in the low end needle never used to seal properly and they would hunt all over the place and untune themselves. Force engine the best thing to happen to kyosho nitro rtr.
Lee Mollison absolutely agree with you. I promised a buddy of mine that i would give him a new engine if he took out the old kyosho engine so i could smash it to pieces. I said to him not to judge nitro because of that engine. He is more a electric guy,and i wanted to make him see how much fun nitro is when tuned and maintained the right way. I have two of the old version of this thing. (the Mad Force). They are the most fun I have ever had with RC. Put a PRP .27 in these and they will actually go fast enough to explode the tires.
About 10 years ago, I fought and fought and fought and fought with a savage x nitro. It was my first Rc. I’d wanted in to the hobby for years. Like wanted in bad! Finally found a used 5.9 savage x big block and got it for $100. It had been ragged out. So after I couldn’t get it running, I got a new 5.9 big block and bought a drill starter and tossed the stock pull start.. put all new servos in it. Got me a new radio and receiver for it. New wheels and tires, new shocks, few more odd and end parts. New body. She was looking good, I’d had hours of working it, hadn’t even heard it run yet. Took it out first the 2nd time and finally got it to fire up with the new 5.9 engine. And it would not go!!! So I tore it all down again. Found that it was slipper clutch on spur gear was lose. So (not knowing better) i torque it down. Get all back together. Go out for 3rd run. Won’t start. Take it back home, tare it down, exhaust connection was off. Go back out, it fires up! I’m ready for my first drive ever with a Rc truck. I gas it, snap! Axle snaps. 3 days order one. Get back out. Fire it up. Gas it, this time it makes it about 3 feet ( 2 foot further than first run) and strips spur gear. This story goes on for weeks of chasing problems all the way to the ground. Long story, I did finally get to drive it a little long enough to learn how to tune it. Started jumping (videos on here @Fishnmaster421) and after a day or two I’d that it broke stripped the screw out I’d the main crankshaft. Tapped and threaded and got it back running and said no more. This isn’t fun. I’ll take a lose. I sold it for running and looking good for $300. Than I got a Losi mini T slow brush model.. Made me a short corse for it in the yard. It wouldn’t stay together for nothing! I worked in that mini t it’s than the big HPI truck seemed like. After breaking 3 times back to back with in 30 seconds of drive time, I gave it away to a guy who needed parts for his brushless mini T. And that’s all been 8 years ago. 2 years of the hobby. Almost $1000 deep in two vehicles and parts. And a total of 7 min run time (IF THAT) that’s being generous. So I just follow the hobby on TH-cam to see everyone else feel like I did. But no. All I see is people ranking them 40’ high and drive theM around all day. I’ve never had a traxxas. But it seems that’s the way to go. I almost bought vxl rustler rTr out the box. The vxl is wicked. I’ve done all my research but I still have loads to learn yet. Almost like just about has the thing. But I was like na I won’t be happy with it. I want the x maxx 8s. So I’ve been saving my money to get the x maxx now that’s ive been into the hobby this long with little to no drive time lol. I can’t wait until I have $1500 to get the new x maxx 8s. Extra batteries and charger. Can’t freaking wait!!
