  • Join us as we take a tour of some of Southeast Michigan's most fascinating classic American railroads, including the Great Lakes Central, the Ann Arbor Railroad, Norfolk Southern, Canadian National under the former DT&I arches, the Delray Connecting Railroad, Canadian Pacific's Michigan Central Railway Tunnel, and the Adrian and Blissfield Railroad's Old Road.
The entirety of this film was captured on a Canon EOS RP during the summer of 2022.

For those curious about the incident with the DTE employee, here's what happened: We had our camera set up on the sidewalk as we heard the train approaching, when a DTE truck pulled into the frame right in front of the camera. We didn't think much of it at first, assuming that the employee had some work to do where we were so we did our best to get out of the way for them. As the train came through we zoomed in the camera to grab the shot without the truck in frame. After the train went by, the DTE truck u-turned and pulled up to us. The employee, wearing a security vest, informed us that the whole road was private property, and that we could get in trouble for filming. This was absolutely ridiculous to us, as the road is the sole access to a public park. In any case, to avoid any altercation, we were courteous and began walking back to the public park where we knew we could do some more filming. The employee, in her truck, proceeded to pace us the entire walk back, and followed us into the park. I set my camera back up inside the park, when the employee came zooming over. She said "what did I say about filming?!" To which we indicated that this was a public park and we could film. She denied this, saying this was private property and threatened to call the police. We told her we were more than happy to talk to the police, which she didn't seem to like much, as she drove away and positioned her car to face and watch us. By now we were feeling pretty uncomfortable, so we left. In retrospect, we should've stayed as we were doing nothing wrong, and called the police if she continued to harass us. Lesson learned 🤷

Karen's loves misery, they don't like for anyone to enjoy themselves they want you to be miserable so thankfully you are still free doing your thing and good things will come to you. Happy railfanning.

watching those 35s roll by and noticing the Alco trucks and thinking wait are those original AA 35s ? Still on former AA?
well I guess some things no matter how improbable are indeed possible.

Re: the "Alco" trucks on the GLC/TSBY/Ann Arbor GP35s. It is commonly believed that these trucks came from the AA's fleet of FA-2's. But EMD had a stockpile of these trucks from the trade-ins from other railroads. And the AA FA's were being traded-in gradually (Dec 1963 through July 1964) as the AA GP35's were being built making it unlikely that AA FA trucks went directly to the AA GP35's. So it is difficult/impossible to conclusively say that the original AA FA trucks are still running today under the GLC GP35's.

My Dad worked for the C&O for some 35 years in track maintenance. I remember seeing all the RR right of ways maps. Today some of the tracks are now Bike Paths. Traveling from town to town via these hard flat surfaces sure beats running on the highways. On most of these trails have a 3% over all grade, meaning long flat sections, pedaling up a 3% grade really isn't noticed.

When the GT Railroad ended up with the DT&I they totally Destroyed the DT&I very SAD!!! If it hadn't been for the sale off of Conrail the DT&I was in the process of purchasing the GT Railroad. Only if things could have waited just another year thing's could have been so much different...

It’s a helluva stretch to say that your First Amendment rights were violated because a car pulled into the frame of your camera. Were you confronted or accosted, or was there any behavior that could not be interpreted in any other way except that of “you can’t take video?” Regardless of whatever the intent of the employee was, in reality all he did was operate a motor vehicle in a public space; no different than someone walking across your lens during a fan trip photo run-by. Your comments come across as simply added for dramatic effect.
For those interested in the topic, a brief and informative summary of this issue can be found in an online article by a legal researcher titled “Photography & First Amendment” at the Freedom Forum Institute. Among the text, this interesting statement: “No Supreme Court decisions directly address a photographer’s First Amendment rights. The rulings closest to that issue involve expressive speech and conduct.” There are, however, numerous lower court findings that can be cited for interpretation.

Not included in the video, as to not distract from the focus of our film, was the employee intentionally blocking our camera and verbally telling us we couldn't film from the sidewalk, to which we obliged to avoid any further confrontation, and then following us into the park to tell us we couldn't film from a PUBLIC park. My statement was a simplification of the incident, if anything...

The DTE didn't have to say anything just parking and blocking a person is enough to interfere someone film where they don't want them.
