Wow, thanks for the flashback. I delivered to Colonial 40 years ago. I see there are two tracks still there. They used to get full loads, and we would line the doors up side by side. Where the Engine came up first was the end of the line, so we would shove our train down there, pick up the empties, then tie onto the loads and set them . It took a while. The guys there would tell us if we were getting there when it's time for them end shift 'Don't do it till we get out of the lot'., because we would tie all the crossings up. For beer, it was worth it.
Colonial was so busy back then getting rail shipments. I remember seeing some slides of a CR local running direct to Dartmouth with 20 or so beer cars. That was probably one of the last “hot shot” freights on the South Coast, or at least the closest thing to one.
Well don’t get me started on the plow horse of transportation ‼️ I’m ecstatic to see this railroad come back to life. Unfortunately either 3 or 4 years ago the rebels told anyone who wanted beer deliveries by boxcar were told they had to purchase the box cars to get these kind of shipments. They do NOTHING to engender new business. All they want are unit trains and in all honesty don’t have the skill or customer service to provide such services. Good Luck 🍀 Guys I hope you’re traffic grows, rail is really a great way to move products.
Its always great to see what happens with individual cars, once the mainliners set them them off. There wouldn't be any mainline trains without a one car delivery here and 4 cars there, etc, etc, etc. Thank you for posting this.
Good to see and observe good compliance, hi-visibility wear, gloves, riding the point out of the siding, and a red flag for flagging ( red flags are part of the equipment on an engines daily inspection form ) good job fellows…..ms~~~ 40 years retired in the industry….
Thanks for filming this. In the UK it's either full train or nothing. This is why we can't move for heavy lorries (trucks) on the roads. Keep up the good work!!🙂
Oh wow Congratulations 👏😄 Everyone your hard work is notice by all of us ...Love seeing Shortlines that know Customers service....Treating everyone importantly benefit 😉 everyone nice job on new service 👍
:( I wish beer in a box car from the The Fx Matt Brewing Company to colonial. You and the railroading rambler could film both sides. They have a neat siding that goes through the building. That car does look new. Nice to hear stories down below! Nice video.
Unfortunately to get shipments in there has to be shippers who load railcars. Hauled a lot of beer in the 80s and 90s. Every brewery loaded a lot of railcars and just about every distributor had a siding. Fewer breweries these days and I haven't been in one in a while that was still shipping by rail or even a dock to load railcars. They receive shipments of grain by rail, but that's it.
The main reason is that the days of the huge breweries have passed. New breweries have been built all over the US which in turn eliminates the need for long haul rail.
Depends on the product and the weight. Boxcars can carry between 75 or so tons and 110 tons depending on what type of car they are. So the 4 to 1 factor isn't far off. Of course cubic capacity is also a consideration in addition to weight.
That's Awesome too see that but it's kinda sad because it's a one time deal for now. Hopefully the Coustomer might want to ship and receive by rail once again.
Wow exciting. How far from Gold medal Bakery..Could this New customers inspire the Railway to restoration of track to Bakery ...Your prior videos make the Bakery tracks look very restorable.....many God Prayers. To this Happening...

Great to see. I wonder why this is a "one and done" thing? If this was a good idea this time why wouldn't it be a good idea the next time they need the product?
@@SouthCoastRailVideos all the more reason to get paint on it. Those new cars are the best. Ichabod the rail god, said to have over 15000 panels rolling. Embrace the culture its here to stay
The car has sat there since 2016 and just got picked up? Wonder if it's because of a car shortage. I've been reading that containers have become increasingly unavailable. Same for manifest, maybe?
Basically that's the truth shippers and recievers today are impatient I worked 2 years as a brakeman but from my experience they are willing to pay extra for better service
So if the siding hasn't been used in six years, does either the RR or the industry have to inspect and certify the rails are sound, before a train travels over them?
First 2 cars in the consist looked new. Too bad the damn graffiti artists got to them. What does the second siding in the beverage place do? I love switching branch lines. It's the best part of railroading.
The second siding was also a boxcar unloading track back in the day. They would put a connecting piece between two box car doors so they didn’t have to respot the cars to unload.
I’m new to this channel. Is that locomotive and the line different than the one I’ve seen on the overgrown line with the engine parked behind a vet hospital?
@@SouthCoastRailVideos Cool. Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t see the plywood covering the one window and broken ditch lights so I was thinking they were different.

@@SouthCoastRailVideos If I remember correctly, you could 5,000 cases of just beer in one of their boxcars, but I am getting old 🚂
Why did they change from rail to truck? Seems like rail could give them more for their money.

Nice catch. Always love seeing ancient EMD power still on the rails putting in work. Switching locals is my favorite type of rail fanning.

Thrilled to see another new freight customer!
But they need to use Rail more not just one load but several looks like they can load or unload several.

They were perfectly fine with my presence

Always good to see new freight in SE Massachusetts. But, it surprises me that Mass Coastal hasn’t acquired Watuppa. It can’t be profitable for BCLR.
Some Colonial employees told me that one boxcar takes four trailer loads.

Very nice video, fun to watch.
Great train 🚆 video.
Thanks for watching!
Great to see. I wonder why this is a "one and done" thing? If this was a good idea this time why wouldn't it be a good idea the next time they need the product?
Previous comments seem to imply the rr is forcing the customer to buy actual box cars for shipments.
The railroad isn’t forcing them to buy cars. The customer figured out a different way to receive their product.
that ICH panel on the gondola looked fresh!
This car was built in February or March of 2022. Too bad it already has graffiti!

Looks like the old SCL/Family Lines paint scheme.
With the price of diesel you figure it would be cheaper for them to receive it by rail
How about steam? Just kidding! :-)
Most customers would pay extra for trucks because it gets thereon time
@@ernestpassaro9663 I’d agree more now with the main lines in a total cluster, though with regular shipments, rail can very easily handle the loads.

Any idea what was delivered in the box car? Actual beverage product, packing materials, etc.??
Actual beverage beer

No, no where did it say this car sat for 6 years. This was the first train in 6 years and the boxcar was only there for a week to be unloaded.
@@SouthCoastRailVideos my fault- beginning showed a boxcar there, said 2016. Thought it was the same one just now being removed.

1706 is an old Seminole Gulf engine that was probably apieceofshit then and probably still is in MA.

Same company but a different line. Bay Colony operates two lines current, those being the “Watuppa” (this video) and the Millis Line (overgrown video)

I believe it is, yes
