  • This is me again, trying new things. But the F-One foils have been on my list forever. Especially this Phantom. I've been seeing people shredding with these in videos of for a while now. And I've been riding Armie high aspect foils exclusively for the past year, so am I a high aspect guy or are there other mid aspect foils out there that I'll like too? So I'm stoked I got on this one, and I totally dug the ride. So this video is my thoughts after 3 sessions on the Phantom 1080.
    I'm super thankful to my wing dealer Phil at kitesite.net for sending up more stuff to demo. I have an Eagle to demo too, hopefully that will be following soon if I can get more time on it.

    I’ve got another demo suggestion. The RS-1075 and GT-1250. I recently demoed them at Ft Pierce with Alex Aguera. It was a shocker. The most loose aggressive turning, hardest ripping, foils I’ve ever experienced. No wonder I see all those guys on Maui ripping on SUPs banked at 45 degrees pulling Gs. Blew my mind.

      No way, I've got to try them. I don;t think about that brand much but I shod give it a try. The surf dealer around me carries them, I'll see if he has either of those in stock. Are you flipping to GoFoil??

    Hey man, really like your videos. Watching feels a bit like being in the water as well…
    At the moment I’m riding the eagle 1090 and 890 after one year on takuma kujiras where especially the frontwings with an AR of about 8.X had a crazy good glide. So I had to get a grip on the eagle. And the foil simply glides endlessly. It might be a bit less maneuverable but not in a way that it matters much in my opinion. In combo with the xxs fuselage there is still a ton of carve in it. The „big“ 1090 is a glider that just sits on the water. When you fly it high on the mast it gets pulled by the tiniest wave and once you are familiar with the start that has to be bit more downwind pump and not to much push on the front foot it is amazingly early up and has a low stall speed. Especially the pitch stability is amazing. The 890 is more nervous but in a good way. And it jumps really nice.
    I had the 1080 once but it wasn’t that much of a difference to my biggest phantom 1480. so I sold it and went for the 940 which has a different AR btw. That one was really good and early up. A machine. From today‘s point of view with growing skills I think the 840 at my 70kg dry weight would be enough I guess.
    Check my videos the next days. I’ll get one out for the eagle 890. the one right now is the eagle 1090 on the Rocket Wing S Carbon 54l. Your sinker videos encouraged me!
    Keep winging, man! I appreciate your positive mood in every video! Cheers from southern Germany!

      Dude!! I tried responding to this twice already and I’ve like accidentally deleted it both times before I finished. Great stuff you wrote, love it. The Eagles are def cool in my book. I was on the 990 and with the Xxs and the 210 I found it pretty damn carvey! I really liked it. But I’m totally stoked to try that 940, I know one guy that will let me try it. I don’t know anyone that has the 840 but i can imagine it’s even better when the winds and waves are high. I think those would THE foils that would make me consider leaving the Armie train. Which totally makes me both nervous and kinda excited. I’m 77kg so the 940 is prolly the equivalent to my 925… the secret sauce of the lineup. But I can feel the glide of the Eagle is really nice. Unfortunately I only tried it on flat water. It’s hard… with kids and crazy work, I can only get one or two sessions a week at most, there’s so much out there I wanna try, but I love progressing on my gear as well. Never enough time…
      Southern Germany… I feel like I drove close to Simssee once when I was heading the the Alps. Love that your channel revolves around winging there. Subscribed dude! Can’t wait to see more!

      @@OCEANBOUND1 Jeremy! Nice getting back to me! I know that sh.. about deleting. Makes me wanna smash my cellphone… had it a few times on FB or Insta. Can’t remember. Needed new cellphone and one month of psychotherapy for anger management 😜. Hate it when you get your first thoughts all out, all excited and then everything’s gone…
      Listen: good news. There’s gonna be a new foil in the line up that sits in right where my special sauce has the best ingredients. An AR of around 8.5 I guess and that should have the best of both worlds regarding both glide and carvy feel. It will be called Sk8 if the rumors are right. I have a friend around who already tested the proto a few weeks ago. No pics allowed but already in the late phase of developing. Well he said to me: you can sell the eagles. These are gonna be the new sh..
      And I can believe it since I love the kujiras in AR 8.3 (1440 as light wind monster and 1095 for a faster and endless glide (see the video at lake Garda for that)). They will be in the stores around April I guess. But btw I found it to be very cool that the pretty “old” phantoms are staying in the line up and still are the Swiss knife for a lot of people. The fast changes is something that is getting on my nerves and makes me feel like the fool wanting to buy the new stuff only because the market makes me feel like newer, bigger, better, lighter 🤮. I’m not willing to do that anymore but still consider the sport to be that new that it still makes sense for the moment 👍🏼.
      One last thing: i think the mast thickness has a massive influence on the glide considering it to make a large “attack area” and drag in the water. I feel that on the Kujira mast which has only 14mm but unfortunately a bit soft and feels a bit “chewing gummy”. The f-one aluminum is not as fast but maybe I will try a carbon one next year (they will surely bring a one piece with the top plate fully integrated). I’d love to have a one for all like cedrus but it’s way too thick for me. And the f-one aluminum gives me the possibility to change lengths while traveling (prone, wing or letting my wife on the water).
      Well so much to talk about. I envy you for having the opportunity to go two times a week. I have small baby boy at the moment and a 14 yo already. I know what you mean. But still I can feel your passion and authentic love for the things you do and that’s so f….impressing and inspiring! Keep on doing what you love. Thanks for subscribing man. I wish a nice “before” Christmas time! And feel free to come over on a chat, a beer and a ride whenever you’re in Europe! Peter

      @@wingfoilingsimssee again, what awesome info you provide!! That’s awesome to hear about the new FOne stuff. I’m totally down to try it. I really wanna be blown away and I kinda would love to be 100% FOne. That being said, I’m dumping a bunch of money into a new Armie mast and I hear they are coming out with another line that may be really similar to the new FOne stuff you speak of. It’s totally frustrating that companies move this fast. Like Axis… their stuff is a little cheaper but there’s so much coming out it makes my head spin. I respect companies that progress, I also respect companies that get it right and take it slower. About the mast, carbon is glorious. I feel like once you go there you’ll never go back. BUT I was on the Cab carbon recently and that thing twisted like crazy. So they are all a little different. I used to have a Cedrus mast for kite foiling, loved it, but the thing would ventilate all the time and I literally busted my ribs once real good cause of it. I worked with Kyle for a while to try to figure it out but when I switched to Armie I just sold it. Haven’t had the problem since.
      Congrats on the little one! I may get 2 sessions a week but the editing is the real nightmare with the fam. Mine are about 5 and 7 years and we just have a lot going on. If I didn’t have to work and could focus on this channel it would be amazing. I try to do a vid a week and even that, it’s an exercise of doing it and then letting go and moving on to the next one. I wish every vid looked polished like an FOne vid, but it’s fun working like this too. If 5 people watch them and like them, I’m totally stoked and it makes it worth it. Everything else I’m so thankful for!
      Keep in touch bud, but I wish you an awesome pre-holiday season as well! Stay stoked.

      Hi again. Kyle seems to be an interesting guy. Never heard about his masts ventilating but well: that’s a nightmare. The idea is great anyway so he might hopefully come up with a thinner mast and a good distributor in Europe. I like the possibility to try other brands. And I like simplicity. So you’re right. One brand that fits your needs stays the dream. Btw: there will be a one piece carbon mast (top plate integrated) by f-one hopefully next year. I’m sure they know about their issues not having the best and thinnest mast but one of the best connections on the market…
      Stay stoked and have a good week, mate!

      @@OCEANBOUND1 Haha yeah doesn't make sense to covershot the F-one.
      So my friend Clay Pederson saw a guy hitchhiking in Encinitas CA and he thought he looked like Perry. He turns around and pulls up to the guy and sure enough it was Perry. Clay calls everyone and tells him that he met Perry F. and that he was hitch hiking on 101. Everyone says, "yeah right" your full of bs. Clay (a HUGE Jane's fan) says no for real I met Perry and that he invited him over later that night for a party. EVERYONE was skeptical but we had to be there just in case he wasn't bs-ing. We get a keg of Heineken and wait for Perry to show. It was getting late and he was no show. Around midnight this guy knocks on the door and it freaking Perry Farrell! He hung out for like 3+ hours. Peter DiStefano, the guitarist for Porno for Pyros ended up coming over a little bit later. I'm not sure if he brought his guitar or used one that was at the house. They started jammin and I grabbed the bongos that were in the house (surfers house). They jammed Sympathy for the Devil and I busted out the bongos while they did their thing. Super cool . They also played about 6 other songs but I only played for around 3 of them. Cool guys! Not at all pretentious or entitled rock star types. More to the story but that's for another time. Nice one man! would be real interesting to get your take on the Axis gear, I've always ridden axis and have progressed right through the range, starting on the 1060BSC till the latest foil I picked up is the ART799 at 700cm2, it's basically a large tail foil yet it is actually surprisingly easy to ride and cuts through the water and carves like a hot knife through butter, it's good fun trying other gear and getting a feel for how things react. Looks like your sail guy did a nice job an that wing!

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sup bud! ohhh man, I'm long overdue on trying Axis stuff. I've tried my friend Ric's a few times but never the good foils and never decent conditions. what should be on my list? ART799, 899, 999? and yeah, Brian does a great job considering wing repair is just a hobby for him... but we've been keeping him pretty busy!

    • @MurphCraft
      @MurphCraft 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@OCEANBOUND1 So the ART foils are cool but not the be all and end all. The HPS 1050 is a wicked light wind foil, reasonably quick turns nicely I can get up in around 6knts with a 6m 22' unit, The HPS930 is my mid range foil, it's awesome, carves well, jumps nicely, can get it out of the water in pretty low winds and until just recently it was my smallest foil, Lotes of people go the HPS880 but it's actually slower and less glidey. I've got the ART799 in the last month or so, have a half dozen sessions on it in both flat water and managed to snag a couple beach sessions with waves too. It's amazing, it's a seriously intimidating looking foil because it's basically an oversized tail foil, but is surprising forgiving and easy to ride. I would say first up use either the 19mm Ally mast or the new high modulus carbon if you can get your hands on one, the original carbon masts are a bit too flexy (probably still stiffer than the armstrong that you are used to, but to get the full experience you want that awesome connected feel you get with the solid mast). The new carbon masts reduce the drag a heap which just translates into less effort cruising and riding (I don't have one, can't afford that! but a mate does and I've ridden it a bit).
      I would skip the 999 and grab ART1099, 899 and 799 if you have the options. the 1099 is almost a lightwind foil and the glide is insane, the 899 is goldilocks porridge, it's soo good at everything and jumps awesome, the 799 is a bit faster and super loose in the roll axis plus with such a small span you can really crank it over and drive big carves.
      As for Fuse and tails, Don't worry about the RED I reckon, just go black fuse unless you are getting the option to try some of the new huge span foils, but even then they aren't really intended for winging anyway. People love the new advanced fuse in the waves (I haven't tried it) I ride and ultrashort fuse, but the small ART's are really good on a 'short'. As for tails you don't really need to look outside of the progressive range, they are the best in the system at the moment, I have a 375 that I recently downsized from a 400. it's a little big on the 799 but still works fine, I reckon based on your skill and that it will be a foreign setup, probably go 375 on the tail, you could go 350 it does get a bit more loose. Some of the small BSC's are okay but they are definitely slower and don't give much that the HPS can't do as well, with less drag.
      I realise that reads as a you should get what I have!, but our styles and skill levels are similar I think and between what I've owned and the guys I wing with, I've tried most of the range. We regularly swap gear on the water to get a feel for it all. So what I've listed above is a fairly well refined selection 🤙
      Hope that helps!

    You definitely need to try the 940/195/XXS is way better than the 1080 or 980. Just skip the 980 and save your time 🙂.

      Sup bud!! I somehow missed this comment, my B. I totally agree, and I know I’d prefer the smaller foils. This was kinda a blind testing in a way, I just was sent random stuff and demoed it. I prolly should have geared the demo vid more to a beginner, but it’s the first time I’ve been on these foils and I got stoked and I just saw a lot of potential in the line. The 940 and 840 are on my wishlist. I don’t think my dealer has any more, but I have a buddy I can prolly borrow a 940. I’m 77kg btw so we are close but I cloud prolly go slightly bigger. I usually ride my 925 unless it’s like sub 16mph and then really only break out the 725 when it’s over 25. It’s funny you mention the shims… I used to use no shims, which gave more lift, but have been riding a shim (+1degree) in the past year and rarely deviate from that, which kinda speed everything up. I agree, I love it when companies just make it one way and are like “this is how we want your to ride” but it is cool to experiment too, now that I have. You could totally put shims on the FOnes… I guess no one does? I’m not really on FOne forums so I’m not sure what pros or other riders do. I did find that when you increased speed I was getting a little extra lift… or at least there was something going on there. The Armie stuff, at least with the +1 shim, is very level at any speed and I love that.

      @@mikemiller774 My personal experience is that the more I ride, the less I use bigger foils and yet I don't increase the wing size. I think one just gets more efficient naturally over time. I remember when I thought I'd never need another foil besides the Phantom 1280. Now that foil looks absolutely ginormous to me. Currently I ride the Sk8 850 in all conditions from wings 2.5 to 6.0. To repeat, I think one simply gets better and better without realizing it and then you just stick with whatever foil you enjoy without needing to switch up wing size too much compared to what everyone else is riding. I mostly hear about guys at our spot using bigger wings when they are on sinker boards.
