I absolutely love and admire gals with curly locks...au naturale. Love to see gals embrace their curls/coils and teach others routines that assist their curly/wavy sisters in their journeys. Love that the media (print and tv adds) finally have seen the light and embrace these hair textures, as well. I'm probably a 2a-2b wavy curl who envies and dreams of being in the 3-4 grouping. Rock ur curls girls.

The saying goes “It takes 30 days to make a habit” so although you won’t necessarily see a lot of results by 30 days, you definitely see the start of them by 30 days. 30 days is that sweet spot to train yourself (hair, body, mind etc) to do something, so as you keep going on your journey, it’ll get a lot better

I have a similar hair type, mine is a bit curlier, but when I notice a strand of hair not curling as tight as the others around it twirling it (while wet/damp) helps coax it in a tighter shape/kind of resets its pattern. Love the journey you’re doing and love the support you have from your sister throughout the journey too! My mom has curly hair but had no idea how to manage it, so I had to do my journey alone/alongside her 😂

twirling my hair is how I refresh my curls. I'll only do the top layer or pieces that look frizzy. It covers up the frizzy bits underneath and make everything look more polished and the hidden under frizz adds volume :P

I always had straight hair until perimenopause and hypothyroidism thinned it considerably but brought on waves. I always noticed the smooth, straight, shiny hair on models and rarely embraced curls which I always envied. So nice to see the beauty industry and media rocking natural curly hair. I think that it is important for us to love and embrace our hair, especially for young girls.

Anna's hair actually looks soo pretty in the clip at the beginning of week 2 where she's having a meltdown lol it's voluminous and beachy! I'm like 5 months into my wavy/curly hair journey and I still think I have a ways to go. It took a while for my hair to be more willing to absorb product because product wasn't someone who used that before and my hair was not used to it. I am just now seeing my curls form without as much effort and my resets actually somewhat resemble my day 1 styled hair. This process has helped to feel like my natural hair is my done hair and that I don't need to heat style or braid it for it to look good. I think it is so nice to see someone else transitioning and not showing only the perfect hair days online. I hope you continue to share your journey.

On the day to day I ware it natural but I am that girl who loves my hair styled with heat tools. My curls probably aren’t as pretty as they could be if i cut out heat but I still love them! I can live my life with hair that I'm happy with! Sometimes I feel like people emphasize the idea that its all or nothing and the only way to be happy with your curls is to jump in the deep end. I originally tried the squish to condish in the hopes that my type 1 hair might actually get a wave. Of course it didn't, but I did find that my hair is shinier and feels a lot healthier! I always thought conditioner would work better with less water so it doesn't dilute the product but it actually helps to distribute it more evenly and I don't need to use as much conditioner. The curly girl method is helping everyone understand their hair type and how to care for it! 🙌

AnnaLaura, you look so pretty, and your hair looks happy and healthy! I love the comparison between your hair journey and Kayley's make-up one from the previous video.
It's TOTALLY a thing that your scalp oils start to balance out and you can go longer without washing. After I started taking proper care of my hair (nearly a decade ago now...), I went from 3 showers/week down to one. I also have zero patience for redoing my hair on the daily so I have accepted that days 1-3/4 will be pretty on their own with minor touch-ups and days 3/4-7 are a series of progressively upper hairstyles (half-up -> ponytail -> full updo). It's important to find a routine you are happy with and that's sustainable for the long term so you don't flame out. This is a long journey, and we're all on it -- and figuring out what works best for our individual hairs-- together!

One thing that really helped me when I went back to my 2b/2c waves was a hair cut! My ends had so much damage from bleach and heat and as soon as the damaged parts came off, the waves came back better than ever. A haircut also helps to give your hair a bit of shape so that the waves lay nicely instead of the dreaded pyramid head! :) You look great, Anna Laura!

I have been in my curly hair journey for almost 2 years now and it's just now that i started to see what my actual curl pattern is and getting more curls at the roots (My hair type is 3b/3c). It has taken a lot of curl training (mostly finger coiling while DC). This whole journey is all about trial and error if im being honest. And yes, it IS super overwhelming, especially when your start trying to understand the whole moisture/protein balance, ph balance, porosity, density, texture, the million methods to style your hair, etc, etc, etc... And the first months (maybe even years) of the whole journey can be very rough depending on your hair, like i said in the beginning, it's been almost 2 years for me and just now im starting to feel okay with how my hair looks like and everything. It's hard bc it's almost inevitable to compare your hair and your journey with others and you see all those curly girls on IG with flawless curls and yours is a mess. But what makes me feel better is looking at pictures of my hair and how much it has changed over the months and years ever since i started my natural hair journey. You have to remember is that your curls are not gonna come back as soon as you start your journey, it's a process and it takes time. It's called "transition" for a reason and it can be quicker for some and slower for others. You have to understand that every curly hair is different, which means that every journey is going to be different too. What works for some it's not necessarily going to work for you (products, styling methods and everything else) and that's fine. You do you. Especially when it comes to the CGM, it doesn't work for everyone, you have to bend those rules a little bit the best it suits you.
I think the only thing i would definitely not recommend is trying to put your hair in a pineapple bun if your hair is too long bc i don't know how it would work tbh xd It barely works for me when my hair length passes my shoulders. If i were you i would definitely try other method to protect my curls at night.
The most important thing with this journey is to be patient. Your curls are gonna come back, try new things and learn what your hair likes and needs.

My hair is very similar to yours (straight roots, wavy length), and I don't know if you've noticed it yet, but there's a few more information that could be helpful:
Drying your hair with a blow dryer/diffuser makes it much more voluminous then when you let it air dry. So keep that in mind. (I usually blow dry for special events only)
Another step you could add to your routine is separating the roots from your scalp (with your fingers) once the hair is completely dry. It brings much more volume to the hair and makes it look a lot more natural and separated as well.
Embrace the frizz! It's a natural part of the curly hair and it makes it so much more natural and voluminous. Honestly, curly hair is all about volume!
And I think you're doing SO great, honestly! I imagine that your hair may need a lot of moisture specially in the beginning, since it's blonde and you used to use a lot of heat, but moving forward you'll realise that you may only need a good medium/heavy moisturiser, a light gel and maybe another moisturiser that is much lighter for the following days, so it doesn't weight the hair down. That's what I use, and sometimes I don't even use any products after the shower and feel good to go!
It's all about learning what your hair needs and embracing it the way it is, nothing more. ❤️
Hope you keep it up because it's looking fantastic and it's bound to look even better, I'm sure!

I wish I could just have a conversation with you two about everything I’ve learned and do to my own hair. I recommend joining the curly girl conditioner-only washing group for women. When you did the first video of finding out your natural hair texture it inspire me to also find out what mine was. I knew it was a little wavy but didn’t realize that my hair is 2c. I jumped off the deep end and watched 5,000 videos and it was A LOT the first few days of trying to do everything that I saw. I quickly decided not to try everything and get the most fabulous hair but to instead focus on finding a routine that works with my schedule and life style (I’m a distance runner, dancer and work over 40 hours a week). There’s no point in me finding a hair routine that works for my hair but not for my schedule. After trial and error I’ve gotten to where my hair takes 15 mins in the morning (10 being a plop) and letting it air dry on my way to work in the mornings. It’s actually quicker for me to do this routine than before when I had to use heat. Thank you for making these videos and inspiring me to find my natural hair texture!

My Dad (yes Dad) has long curly hair and my mum has short hair but when she was younger had long, wavy hair. I have always struggled with my hair, besides when I had a blow dry brush as it helped me tame my otherwise unruly hair.
Since my blow dry brush broke I haven't known what to do besides buy a new one. So I came across your video after looking for how to care for naturally wavy hair.
I followed your week 3 instructions due to my parents hair and WOW! I have curly hair. I'm 37 and I honestly had no idea. I'm hoping I'll be patient enough to keep with it but I'm amazed at how it turned out after the first wash and condition.
I think my husband will be shocked! Hehe. It almost looks like I've had a perm.
Thanks for the inspiration, wonderful tips and the joy with which you both bring to your videos. I've watched others before and love how you share your knowledge, mistakes and style tips. Thanks so much for sharing your 30 day hair journey, my hair thanks you too.

I just watched the video! After months of trying, I finally found out that applying the styling products before plopping makes a huge difference! After washing my hair, I use a microfiber towel or an old t-shirt in order for my hair not to be dripping wet and apply my products (leave in, hair oil, curl conditioning mousse and air dry gel) , then plop and air dry or diffuse if it is winter! And finally my hair are bouncy, healthy and so soft to touch! It doesn't even need to be scrunched out after diffusing! I hope Ana Laura to find the best routine for you as soon as possible!! Love from Greece! Stay safe!

The best thing I’ve learned from my curly journey is patience!! If you used to use a lot of heat it takes your hair a long time to heal. Also I have very similar texture to yours is wavy with some curls. I can’t wet refresh I only shake out my hair from my pineapple and add some oil if I need it and dry shampoo if needed. You will find out what works for you and what doesn’t. It’s so good you are documenting everything before you know it you will have your products you can’t live without a routine down!!

Yes! I have your hair texture and I went from always heat styling, to 100% curly girl method, to finally finding my happy medium! (Going usually natural and just breaking out the iron on special days)
The braid at night is bomb for us wavies!! I do that every night! I now only use 2 products (usually a mousse and leave in conditioner) and I think you will get there once you have been doing it for another couple of months.
I highly, highly recommend the coconut cowash by As I Am. As a white girl with thin strands, I can assure you that it does not weight hair down. (Because African American hair products are AMAZING, but can be a bit heavy for us caucasian wavies!)

I am roughly 6 months in CGM. Before that I was wearing my hair “natural” about 50% of the time just not paying attention to products or techniques. What really helped me get my hair to clump is wet styling, I put my leave-in in as well as any stylers and then plop my hair, the dry. This for me was a game changer cause clumps want to form the most when your hair is wet. Also a harder hold gel might also give you more longevity out of your curls.

I have fine wavy hair , type 2a, 2b, and 2c. I only de tangle in the shower but on refresh days I take a pick and comb the top layer of my hair. Not to detangle, just to smooth down excess frizz and get rid of any weird bends. Once I add a little water and product my texture goes back to it’s usual. I just wanted to leave this tip here because it took me a while to realize I was “allowed” to use a comb on non wash days. My hair looked pretty funky for the first part of my journey. 🙃

A little tip: try not to re-wet your hair everyday, as it can lead to overly moisturized hair and in extreme cases hygral fatigue. If you own a facial steamer, you could use that to bring back some moisture into your hair. If you feel the need to re-apply water between washes in order for your hair to curl, try to lightly mist instead of soaking your hair in water. Also, some styling products can also be applied to dry hair, so there is no need to always re-wet. 🥰

I think som pin curl innovations to match Kayley’s different curling iron techniques would be fun. They don’t have to be wet, they just be overnight. With my fine hair, I’m never going back to irons. Diffuse drying is the furthest heat wise I can go.
Also, since you’ve done heat and bleach to your hair, it’s be interesting to see an Olaplex treatment and maybe a review of their whole line for natural hair recovery

a great way to save some time in the morning is a stem refresh. When you get in the shower clip your hair up or in a bun and right before you are getting out, turn your hair upside down and just scrunch your hair with dry hands or a small bit of oil while the shower is still running to get the steam. the steam will help to soften your hair and awaken your hair without re wetting your hair. If you want to fix some curls to make the hair look great use a clip barrel that matches or is close to your curls and just curl those stubborn pieces, this method is great when you don't want to spend hours re doing your hair from start to finish.

Love it! So beautiful, either way. I've had curly hair since I was 13 and I love it! I've never once straightened it and I use no heat and I wash every day and I have never colored it (going gray naturally and rocking it!). I don't follow any "rules." I just do whatever the heck I want. My hair survived perms and big bangs as a kid in the 80s, so I feel like I've earned the right to do whatever the heck I want with my curls. :) :)
Don't underestimate the power of a good curly haircut! Go to a stylist that is great at cutting curly hair. Long layers are your friend. I feel like super long hair does weigh the curls down, so don't be afraid to take some length off and you will often see a dramatic difference in the curls. Happy curly journey!!
