Usually when I watch videos of straight haired people I feel like I'm expected to either have straight hair or straighten it, but this one was so positive and inclusive towards more than one type of hair and I really enjoyed it even though I don't heat style my curls 🥰
I have 2B/2C/3A hair--here are some general observations of my own curls if you want to make your hair look really natural: --My roots are most often straighter than my ends. The longer the hair is, the more it is weighed down, and the bigger the difference between the curls at the bottom and the texture at the top. --Curly hair does not like to be parted--a straight part breaks up curl clumps and makes frizz, so after curling your hair, flip your part and don't worry if it's not perfect. Ours rarely are. --Curls do not come in one size on any person's head. My face-framing pieces have a very loose wave, and the pieces at the nap of my neck are very tight. Also, some of my curls are ringlets, and some are S-waves. --Many of my curls go in the same direction, but not all of them. So don't make them all in one direction, but also don't alternate every other one perfectly. --The very ends of my hair are the curliest. Those pieces should never be straight. Obviously, all curly heads are different, and obviously, you can do whatever you want and what you think looks good, but but I hope this helps. :)
Same Sadie same All of this is really similar to my own hair as well. Though I've been able to keep a fairly strait part it kinda dose kinda go on an angle. Less l and more \ (if that makes sense)
thank you for being so inclusive for those with naturally super-curly hair, i’m so happy that you went the extra mile to acknowledge the natural beauty of tight curls not many people do that even though it should be said so much more often, so thank you for using your privilege 🥺❤️
I have a clamp but When i wanna have a wand i just push it and use "the wand " it is harder cause you have to keep it pushed and also curl hair but yeah
I do that too before I go to bed because I'm growing out a pixie cut (bc of quarantine) and it's super uneven so the waves really help hide the weird layers.
Girl, I have struggled forever and never figured curling my bitter straight hair at all. This fixed my whole problem. Thank you so very very very much.
I've just tried this and as someone who uses straighteners to curl my hair I thought I would find it hard just using a curling wand. It took me a minute to realise what I should be doing. I have longer hair so Anna Laura showing me it for longer hair really helped! My hair looks amazing, like a ginger mermaid. As always, great video, love you guys!
This method just saved my sanity! My hair has grown out since this quarantine...and my normal method stopped working. Very frustrated mornings leading to being late to work! Thank you!
I followed the previous natural waves braid and air dry tutorial. But this is what I've needed, especially for day two. Redken Iron Shape 11 is the best heat protectant with hold. It makes my hard to curl hair curl in little time and the curls last!
Beautiful! I braid my hair like your crown braid you did a few years back, while it's wet, and when I wake up I literally have the exact same curls as the one you got here 😍 so if you don't wanna use heat, it's a great tip!
You Rock tbat curl girl ! Finally now i can create curl! Your instruction is like no other , you actually have done the impossible and taught me how to curl my long semi- curly hair, thank you! Congrats on your success and modeling gig. Amazing
I'm so in love with this look! It's exactly what I want my hair to look like! Tips for not getting the creases in your ends? What size of barrel is the best for thicker curly hair?
This is awesome!! Thanks for sharing girl! Would you be able to do a mom on the go series? Give us tips for the post partum hair loss, products on a budget, and how to put your hair together really quickly without adding tension along the hairline? Since becoming a mom, my hair has been put through the wringer and I dont even know what to do with it anymore
I can't wait to try this! I got a 1 inch Kristin Ess curling iron for Christmas and absolutely love it!! I tried the Instagram waves technique a few days ago and it was SO CUTE. I will be trying this technique soon and am sure it will be just as great!
I just did this and it looks AWESOME! I’ve never gotten waves to go this well! I have pretty thick waist length hair so it took me a while. Plus this being my first time doing it, i’m just getting the hang of it. Thanks so much! I’ve now watched several of your videos and now i’m a subscriber!
I’ve been trying to find a way to wave my hair that I liked and I tried this and I love it it worked so well I almost burned myself a few times along the way but it worked perfectly thanks so much 😄
I just tried this method today and I’m in love!!! I’ve been looking for a more natural style other than my usual beachy waves and this is perfect!! Thank you!!!❤️❤️❤️
40 seconds ago wow I’ve never been this early before and this video made my day💕 I screamed when I saw Anna Laura in the intro because I love when you guys are together 🙂
This is such a helpful video! I have 2a ish hair and I tend to sleep in a french braid at night partly to help define my waves and there are definitely days where I wake up and its not quite perfect, so both the tutorial itself and the products were super helpful for me!
My Asian hair is hard to deal with it’s really stiff so messy buns are hard to make cute, curls don’t hold well, and my hair is super flat on the top by day two because my hair is naturally heavier. I would love a video on how to do earl with the Asian hair.
I have Afro textured hair in the type 4 category and though a lot of what you do on your channel doesn't really apply to my hair type, I still enjoy your videos. Thanks for including the links to stretching curlier textured hair. I don't use heat so I do the banding method demonstrated by Melissa Denise or twists but twists and braids will give me a different curl pattern from my natural coils.
Bruh I feel you me too, I haven't gotten a haircut since quarantine started so it's super uneven so I put my hair in twists before I go to bed so it hides the weird layers.
@@mimilesles ooh good idea I might have to try that too. Mine has two different lengths as the back has grown way quicker than the front. A bit mullet like. Not a good look 😂
Tried this! Loved it. I also tried the Kristen Ess texture spray! LOVE IT. I only had used the Oribe version but it’s sooo expensive. So happy you recommended the KE stuff. It’s so good and smells so similar to the Oribe! I’m in love. Thank you, thank you!!
omg. i remember accidentally discovering this method from your duck and slide method and now you are showing it. i actually already know how to do this. YOU TRAINED ME WELL ❤️
I love to use two French rope braids to get heatless curls and this is an awesome way to fix the front pieces that usually come out looking weird!! Also my best friend has amazing curly hair but she touches the front sections a lot while they dry so they usually end up straight. This is an awesome way to curl them again!! Love it. Also LOVE your out-tro
I figured this out in college with, of all things, an instyler lol. Did it constantly. My boyfriend's mom thought I had naturally curtly hair, I was so proud. This technique really works and it goes quicker than normal curling. Another weird trick I figured out because my hair is fine and flat, is to put it in velcro rollers after curling (more so regular curling than this, but it might work for this too, that I haven't tried). I got the volume of a hot rollers but without that hot roller look. Weird, but it worked. Just have to put the rollers in/ curling in the same direction and tame it a little afterwards. But it worked. They also are great for giving you a blowout look with WAY less work. They do not get enough love.
Ahhh I’m late but I still hope you read this. THIS IS THE BEST CURLING METHOD I HAVE EVER TRIED. Finally my hair moves like a wave rather than a spiral. I’m in love. Thank you so much
Love this! If you have type 2 hair (a/b/c) try a 3/4 inch iron with this technique! Keep the heat low to avoid dents! Also try the Garnier Fructis Texture Tease spray (all hair types) for an affordable alternative!
Thank you for this! I’m a mix of 2b/2c and I used a 1 1/4 curling iron because that’s all I had and this technique hardly worked. It looked like I was doing it right because it was doing the twisty thing it did to their hair, but the end result was not the same and was very loose, ringlet-y curls. Like a very obvious curling iron look. I’m gonna try the 3/4 inch now!
Jennifer Hammer awesome, I’m so glad! You may have to play around w/the heat temp. Too high and you WILL get a tight ringlet “curly-curl.” Also feel free to leave the ends out, and/or flat iron them for that bendy look. You can also try wrapping your hair around the 3/4” iron (using it as if it were clipless) if you find yourself getting dents :)
I loved this tutorial, especially since I have 2b hair and my waves can be hard to style sometimes. This is so easy to follow and after I got the hang of the technique I ended up having an extremely cute hair style to wear for the day. Thank you Kayley!!
I love that your hair is short. Mine is too and I just cut it this weekend to refresh it and it’s a bit shorter than it was 4 months ago- pre covid- so I am looking for ideas to do my hair and have more days between washes due to color.
Okay I am becoming obsessed with your channel! I recently cut 15 inches off my hair to the length that yours is so needless to say it has been a challenge trying to adjust 😂 your videos have been a life saver!! I love these waves & the technique is soo easy.
omgggg thank you!!! i have extremely curly hair and i want wavy some times and i don’t have a curling iron but i wanna stretch them out so thanks for the links in the description!!
Yay! I knew I saw this somewhere from you but couldn’t find it! Finally can have this saved for wavy beach hair days! I have a natural wave but it’s always falling flat or gets too frizzy with the humidity we have in Montreal. I’ll for sure use this method next time I get a chance to curl my hair :D thanks Kayley!
I have 2a hair and it comes down to the bottom of my rib cage. This may take a while but I’m definitely going to try this out! I love your videos! I would love a video for easy hairstyles for straight thin hair without many products!!
Have you ever considered doing a styling video for pixie cuts? I love all your videos but I cut my hair recently and would love to see how you would style a pixie cut!
Love this idea! My hair naturally (on a good day that is) looks like how Anna Laura’s turned out, but a lot less wavy on one side than the other so I’m always having to add looser spirals and defeat the purpose of trying not to use heat. With all that being said, I’m very excited to have a way to spruce up my crazy hair and make it all look even at the end of it all!
Can you do a review on hidden crown extensions?? I saw an ad and now I’m convinced I need one! 😅 I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the halo type of extension. I love you and trust your opinion!
I LOVE THIS - thank you so much! I love it when u explain hair stuff like the hair curl terms or whatever - this is so user friendly and I LIVE FOR IT - thank youuuu!! ♥️
I LOVE the way this turned out! My hair is naturally 2C/3A, do you think this technique would work well? I would love to have the longer and looser waves like Anna Laura, just wondering if it's even possible.
I definitely have type 1 hair. I also only own a wand and don't do my hair often enough for a curling iron, could i use a wand for this?? :) I have an open house soon because we were marreid right before quarantine and would love to get my hair to curl and look natural. Thanks!! Love your vids!
I'm super late to this video and I love Kayleys content! She is so great at explaining different hair types and how to work with them. I'm not sure this is a new method... Milabu has been curling her hair this way for a while now. It's still a great method and am so happy Kayley shared it with her followers ❤️👍Kayley's Channel is so fun and informative! Definitely worth subscribing!
Soo beutifull! Absoultly love this ❤ I actually get a bit of the same result if i frensh braid in pigtales... but i then my top pieces is not that curled and looks a bit akward, and this would be a brilliant way of fixing it.. however i only own a curling wand.. do you have a method to get the same result just with a curling wand?
Can I create this style with my Curling Wand? Would be great to have some options, ‚cause my hair does not hold curls well and this seem to be a perfect technique for some waves.
I have natural 2b/2c hair. I sometimes get some random 3a curls (and I love them when they happen) But sometimes the left side of my head just wants to be like 1c/2a and I don't know why. So this is kind of like when I do finger coiling. As someone with low porosity hair I use a lightweight mouse to scrunch my waves.
You're literally a HAIR SCIENTIST and my Hairstyle teacher for the past 5 years. You're a big part of my life, I lovvvee you
Usually when I watch videos of straight haired people I feel like I'm expected to either have straight hair or straighten it, but this one was so positive and inclusive towards more than one type of hair and I really enjoyed it even though I don't heat style my curls 🥰

This is amazing!! Thank you for taking the time to write it!
Yes, I have 2B/2C hair and I've noticed when I'm finger coiling that most of my waves/curls go the same direction.
Curly girl +1!
Same Sadie same All of this is really similar to my own hair as well. Though I've been able to keep a fairly strait part it kinda dose kinda go on an angle. Less l and more \ (if that makes sense)
You just described my hair too! Any products you really like? Wavy/curly hair girls gotta a stick together ;)
thank you for being so inclusive for those with naturally super-curly hair, i’m so happy that you went the extra mile to acknowledge the natural beauty of tight curls not many people do that even though it should be said so much more often, so thank you for using your privilege 🥺❤️
A few years ago I took the clamp off my curling iron because everyone was using curling wands.... now I gotta try to put it back on 😅
The real question is, can we put it back? ha ha
I have a clamp but When i wanna have a wand i just push it and use "the wand " it is harder cause you have to keep it pushed and also curl hair but yeah
i literally just bought a curling wand, because i thought i wouldn't need the clamp, but now i'm so annoyed because i want to do this 😫😫
Surface Taffy Whip Sculpting Taffy
worked great at my sisters wedding for her braid!
She’s so cute and helpful! I have 2 b hair so I am definitely trying this out today to touch up some of my difficult waves
Yes girl!! I hope it works!!
Kayley Melissa I just got done and my waves have never looked better! Would recommend!!!
OMG day made!! I'm glad it worked out for you and your hair!!
Yeah I have 2a/2b hair on a good day
My plans for the day now include "curl your hair like Kayley"
hahaa yesss!!
Dats was legit my everyday for school 🤣
Me too. I use plenty goo and recommended product. And it’ll look great, but as soon as I walk outa the house, my hair is back to flat and limp again!
I do dutch rope braids and I have found that it gives me a similar result but that the waves become more sturdy and hold for multiple days!
I have 2b hair and also do this method. I love it when I want to tighter texture. Or when I ruined my natural texture and want it back without washing
I love this technique! Exactly the look I've been wanting but didn't know how to achieve. Can't wait to give it a try.
Such a good tip to start with a cold iron first! I'm a hairdresser too and I still burn myself 😂
It is very rare for me to feel like my natural hair texture is desirable, so I really appreciate seeing videos like this! 🥰
As always, great video, love you guys!
i’ve been using this method for over a year!! my favorite way to curl my hair and my clients!!
Can you give a tutorial on how to wear the bandana trend? I can’t figure out how to tie it 😂. You and your videos are amazing!
This method just saved my sanity! My hair has grown out since this quarantine...and my normal method stopped working. Very frustrated mornings leading to being late to work! Thank you!
Okay I am in love with this look!! Doing it in the morning! Your hair and you are soo beautiful!!
I’ve been doing the twirl and wrap method for years and this works even better and half the amount of time! 😍 thank you!
I followed the previous natural waves braid and air dry tutorial. But this is what I've needed, especially for day two. Redken Iron Shape 11 is the best heat protectant with hold. It makes my hard to curl hair curl in little time and the curls last!
OOooohh. I haven't tried that before! I'll take a look! 😄

Just tried it finally after my 3/4’ wand came in.... SO good for touching up natural curls. Love you

Thank you so much for sharing this method - it gave me the type of waves that I have been trying to perfect for years. Years!!
Would you recommend using a “beach wave” spray after?
I’ve been trying to find a way to wave my hair that I liked and I tried this and I love it it worked so well I almost burned myself a few times along the way but it worked perfectly thanks so much 😄

I agree with you
I just tried this today for the first time and I'M IN LOVE! Thank you so, so much!
I got my hair done yesterday and she was using this method! I loved how my hair looked so good to know how I can recreate it at home!
These are the prettiest waves I have ever seen! 😻
I'm growing out my pixie cut and it's finally long enough to try this!
Bruh I feel you me too, I haven't gotten a haircut since quarantine started so it's super uneven so I put my hair in twists before I go to bed so it hides the weird layers.

I accidentally did this new method before when trying to do your original method and I have to say I loooooved it!
Could you use this technique to touch up your hair when you do braid waves? Btw, can’t wait to try this out! Thanks Kayley!
omg. i remember accidentally discovering this method from your duck and slide method and now you are showing it. i actually already know how to do this. YOU TRAINED ME WELL ❤️

Tried this technique and loved it! I was rushing to get ready and still was able to do it!
LOVE THIS! Question, would it be possible to use the same technique with a flat iron?
Love you girls! ❤
i dont think so, cuz the heat is not distributed evenly on the flat iron as opposed to the barrel with heat throughout
Yes!!!! I use a flat iron to do it and it works PERFECTLY! 💜💜💜
Ahhh I’m late but I still hope you read this. THIS IS THE BEST CURLING METHOD I HAVE EVER TRIED. Finally my hair moves like a wave rather than a spiral. I’m in love. Thank you so much
Wow this is such a cool trick! Excited to try it. Thanks Kayley 🥰👌🏻
Love this! If you have type 2 hair (a/b/c) try a 3/4 inch iron with this technique! Keep the heat low to avoid dents! Also try the Garnier Fructis Texture Tease spray (all hair types) for an affordable alternative!

Jennifer Hammer awesome, I’m so glad! You may have to play around w/the heat temp. Too high and you WILL get a tight ringlet “curly-curl.” Also feel free to leave the ends out, and/or flat iron them for that bendy look. You can also try wrapping your hair around the 3/4” iron (using it as if it were clipless) if you find yourself getting dents :)
these waves looked so good on both of you!! this is a cool new technique for getting waves! do you find them to be long lasting?
I loved this tutorial, especially since I have 2b hair and my waves can be hard to style sometimes. This is so easy to follow and after I got the hang of the technique I ended up having an extremely cute hair style to wear for the day. Thank you Kayley!!
That sage green color looks so good on you! ♥️
Thank you ladies you always brighten my day. Guess I need to buy a curling iron, haven't had one in years.
I tried this with the same exact iron and now I see the technique I done wrong! Love this video!! Thank you!!
I just chopped my hair this length a week ago. It's really hard for me to get curls in my hair now. Thanks for Sharing! Those curls are beautiful.
These are the waves I have been trying to pull off for over a year. Thank you!
I get SO many compliments when I curl my hair like this! My friends and coworkers literally lose their minds! I love it!
omgggg thank you!!! i have extremely curly hair and i want wavy some times and i don’t have a curling iron but i wanna stretch them out so thanks for the links in the description!!
Your makeup in this video is so perfect 🥺
I have 2a hair and it comes down to the bottom of my rib cage. This may take a while but I’m definitely going to try this out! I love your videos! I would love a video for easy hairstyles for straight thin hair without many products!!
the waves look fantabulous on both of you, but omg anna laura serving looks
I'm OBSESSED!!! I'm definitely trying it tomorrow 😄😄😄
Love this look. How big is the barrel you are using 1inch?
Have you ever considered doing a styling video for pixie cuts? I love all your videos but I cut my hair recently and would love to see how you would style a pixie cut!
Love this idea! My hair naturally (on a good day that is) looks like how Anna Laura’s turned out, but a lot less wavy on one side than the other so I’m always having to add looser spirals and defeat the purpose of trying not to use heat. With all that being said, I’m very excited to have a way to spruce up my crazy hair and make it all look even at the end of it all!
Love, love, love! This style looked SO great on both of y'all! Definitely going to try it out myself.
I love when you do hair on you and on your sister, best of both worlds 🥰❤️
I love your outro when you guys do it together!!Such a cute sister moment
Last time I was this early, Kayley was still in the green screen days.
If you know, you know❤
YAY! Anna Laura is back!!!
Please have a recommendation products for different textures
Just yesterday I tried achieving this look, well lets say I didn’t succeed 🙈 thanks for the video and new technique ❤️ looks amazing!
I really need you to do every possible style with this tong
These look absolutely stunning! Thank you for the amazing tutorial again 😊💕💕
Hi love your channel! Is there a way to get these types of curls but using a curling iron that hasn’t got a clamp? xx
Can you suggest some of the other mousses and sprays you were taking about when hair is wet
Huge thank you for making this video! I’ve been wanting to learn this curling method for a while!! 💛
Happy Friday because we get a new Kayley Melissa video
The 90's hair flip has been my signature look since the actual 90's
Omg you guys are beautiful and have AMAZING hair. I love you guys these vids seriously brighten my day
I'm super late to this video and I love Kayleys content!
Absoultly love this ❤
I actually get a bit of the same result if i frensh braid in pigtales... but i then my top pieces is not that curled and looks a bit akward, and this would be a brilliant way of fixing it.. however i only own a curling wand.. do you have a method to get the same result just with a curling wand?
Can I create this style with my Curling Wand?
Would be great to have some options, ‚cause my hair does not hold curls well and this seem to be a perfect technique for some waves.
Can you do one using a curling wand that doesn’t have a clamp??
This was one of my fave videos!! I love how natural these look
This works almost exactly the same with a straightener as well!
Kayley, how do you do this with a curling wand, cause that's all I own 😩
It turns out similar if you twist the entire section first, then wrap it around your curling wand. Just start wrapping at the top.
you look SO good in curls :)
Officially obsessed with this look!!
My hair looks basically like the final shaken-out product, except it’s usually pretty frizzy with this Georgia humidity. I’m gonna try these tips!
