  • My curly hair transformation after 30 days on the curly girl method! I followed the curly girl method for 30 days with a cgm approved wavy hair routine. My curly hair journey as a beginner was definitely up and down. I tried lots of curly hair products, tutorials, and wavy hair routines to try and embrace my natural curls and waves, and the results are pretty crazy! I even got a special curly deva cut!
    I also address the deva curl controversy at the end of this video. When I started this hair journey, I didn't know about all the issues with deva curl products, but after researching I will no longer be using devacurl.
    The amazing curly hair youtubers who inspired me to try and embrace my natural hair!

It’s pretty irresponsible to leave this in without adding a disclaimer in the beginning that she DOES NOT RECOMMEND DEVACURL TO ANYONE. I’d even blur out the name just to be sure no one saw me holding that product and got inspired to purchase it straight away....

      limergreenlover Yea she definitely has heat damage. I think she said she’s been straightening it for years plus 😹 I don’t even think those waves are her real texture due to her constant heat use. Idk like you said she needs to grow it outtt 30 days of a routine will not show drastic changes

      Not necessarily. I mean, I’m sure she has some heat damage, but my hair personally gets very frizzy no matter what I do, and I hardly ever use heat on it. So it could just be the texture of the hair, But like you said, she needs to grow it out and see.

      @julimontfort5693 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes! Gotta make a gel cast, I was scared of that 90s crunchy curl, but just look up “gel cast” and “scrunch out the crunch”. You end up with soft beautifully defined curls and waves!

    • @cobaltmarin5305
      @cobaltmarin5305 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you know what the best way is to use gel? I have thick curly hair and I use curl cream and leave in conditioner which I love but when I try to put gel in my hair when it’s damp out the shower I can never scrunch it out the next day so I get clumps of sticky hair or white residue from the gel even if I just use a small amount

    • @PowerToolsnPearls
      @PowerToolsnPearls 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CatEyes1993 her order of operations is incorrect as well, as in the order in which she applies products. I’ve been on my CG journey now for 3+ years. It takes time and experimentation to get your products and methods correct for your hair.

    • @CatEyes1993
      @CatEyes1993 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      cobaltmarin hmm it might depend what gel you’re using, I’ve also never personally tried scrunching out the crunch the day after I wash it. I always wash and apply gel in the morning and scrunch out the crunch the same day. Btw; you still have frizz bc your hair still has heat damage. Once your hair is fully transitioned, there will be less frizz. Ergo, why you mentioned in the beginning how this process usually takes years. Personally, my transitioning stage took a solid year and that was with ten years worth of heat damage.
    This method takes A LOT of patience. It’s all about the method you do it and switching it up until it works for you. Good luck wavy!!!! 🥰

    Hi Sierra, my mom transitioned a few years ago and what I noticed is that at the beginning she had to help her hair with rollers, curlers, wave formers (whatever you want to call them) like you did a few days. She will used different sizes to get loser or thighter curls. This helped her hair get used to curling again, since it had been obligated to be straight for years. It's definitely a journey and needs lots of trial and error, but if you stick to it, you will get there. Much love from one curly girl to another.

    Just remember that when you straighten it, you make sure that you or whoever is doing it always, ALWAYS uses a heat protectant. And actually, using a little silicone during the straightening process is not a bad thing because it will provide a coating over your strands while it is straight, thus protecting it and making sure it doesn't frizz. Just make sure to do a clarifying wash when you go back to your natural hair.
    Also, get a Denman brush or a Felicia Leatherwood detangler brush to help clump your curls. They are made for thick hair.

    I lost my curls after one year, literally 12 months, of beaching. I got my whole head fully bleached 2 times and the roots touched up 2-3 times (I wear a pixie cut). Now that I've stopped bleaching and growing out my natural color again I can see my roots curling up on their own and the ends are dry and only kind of wavy. I don't think I will ever go back to bleaching my hair. It was just a phase, I wanted to try bright fun colors. Now it's out of my system and I am ready to go back to my natural hair.
    All this to say that if you also stop lightening your hair it will help a lot with getting your curls/waves back. I strongly advice you at least consider this as an option, even just to see what your natural hair really looks like all grown out while using the curly girl method.
    I also always used to blow dry and flat iron my hair for years. A couple of years ago I got fed up with it and just let it do it's thing and I do really love my curls now. It's a lot less maintenance and was a lot easier for me because I do wear it short. It's totally worth it.

    I think this was one of my favorite videos who’ve ever done. I have very curly Hair and I spent most of my life trying to straighten it and within the last year to two I’ve just been letting it go curly and I love it and this gave me some really good tips on how to take care of my curly hair

      A gal I went to high school with got cancer, did chemo, hair fell out, all that. Before she had very thin, straight as a board hair. And now her hair is so thick and so curly. Very pretty though. Good luck figuring out the curly hair! And congrats for making it through all the treatments. :)

    When you diffuse, you should turn off the hair dryer when you move between sections! It helps to reduce the frizz

    Your “before hair” is like the perfect, natural beach waves that people strive to get. I feel like all you need a bit of hair oil and you’d literally have dream hair! If I had that hair naturally I’d wear it like that everyday and skip the hair gel, creams etc. #hairgoals
    And yes I realise that it’s subjective and you probably don’t feel the same way 😂❤️

    Watching your vlogs made me realize that my hair that i thought just had giant random waves in it is actually really wavy (2b, i’ve learned!). I always hated my hair but now that i understand it’s texture i’ve started the curly girl method and i’m really liking my hair for the first time in my life!

    I LOVE your natural hair ☺️💕 it kinda reminds me of the curly hair phase in the 90's especially in 90's movies! It's totally coming back and it's much healthier for your hair and scalp and allows you to put proper care and time into your hai💕 I hope you continue your natural hair journey and continue to grow in confidence with your natural hair ☺️💕✌🏽

    Tip I wish i had when I got started: Don't worry about frizz. Its gonna happen more or less so save your sanity and time. Also expect it to change as it grows out and not get hung up on products and have fun with it while its transitioning.
    P.S. Your hair is growing out so nicely ! your root is so shiny and so curly and even your original straight damaged pieces look cute and healthy!!! please keep updating your journey!

    Glad to see others trying this. I've been curly girl for about 5 years and it has done amazing things for my hair. I use Shea moisture, As I Am and Maui Moisture products all the time and they did wonders for my curls. Also glad to see you aren't using Deva Curl. My hair had started coming out in huge chunks for a while on Deva curl dispite using their products for years.

    I would love to see you do a video on formal curly girl hairstyles! Most people think straightened hair = elegant and dressy but curly/coily/wavy hair can be formal too!
    In highschool I went natural and decided that for all my school dances and then years later when in each of my 3 of older brothers' weddings I'd do formal natural styles to raise awareness! I'd love to hear your thoughts and see what you come up with using little to preferably no heat! 💕

    My tips from doing CG for about a year and a half: I like to do every step of my washday upside down, until I microplop. So washing, conditioning and styling upside down. I like combing conditioner through to get my hair silky, then squish to condish. Instead of raking stylers, check out the roping method to apply, then scrunch some more, and add water (a spray bottle will do wonders, your hair should still be dripping wet as you style it). If you want to plop, which you probably don't because your hair curl pattern isn't tight, don't twist your towel/t-shirt - it stretches your hair. Check out microplopping instead, aka just scrunching out the water with a t-shirt (I do this after finally flipping my head upright and gently shaking out the curls while my hair is still very wet to make sure the back is not weird). I do use gel again after microplopping, because getting a cast is the best way to ensure my hair doesn't get frizzy. And no touching your hair until it's dry - breaking the cast early will lead to frizz. Hope you keep at it, and if I've learned anything from the Deva debacle, is you should listen to your scalp more than your hair, and use clarifying/regular shampoo somewhat regularly because cowashing doesn't work for everyone (I have an oily scalp and trying to make cowashing work for me was the biggest mistake of my CG journey). Sorry for the long comment, hopefully some of it will be helpful.

    It’s not the heat that’s relaxed and frizzed your curl, it is the beaching of the highlights.

      @@unprofessionallypolished right! Same as highlights. When someone goes over board and doesn't use protection damage happens from both heat and bleach.
