    Although he wasn’t the heir, Lord Granthom had always hoped for; he was certainly the son he’d always wanted and the brother his daughters needed.❤️

    Robert's kind man who I hate to see upset like when the school teacher came to dinner and Robert went off on her or.. when Cora lost the baby because of what the maid did with a bar of soap! Long live the Crawley's.

    When you consider what happened with the Drewes family and Edith's child later on, it might have been better if he hadn't been allowed to stay.

      It would've been BETTER if Edith would've left them all alone. She destroyed the Drewes' just like she destroyed other families.

      Can y'all stop hating on Edith, she made mistake yes, but she's also a working woman in 1920 with her own child having no husband, she's doing a lot for community and even a machioness at the end and she's done all that even though she's had so many hurtful and awful things done to her, she fucking impressive woman, there is no other way than to stan her!!

    The days when people didn't flip out if rents were late. But again, a different and a different economic structure.

    • @alberttsai8832
      @alberttsai8832 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And yet it was the Edwardian era of Downton that was “elitist” and unfair according to some people. Seems a far better economic system and society to me.

    • @MarkT1700
      @MarkT1700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      This was an exception. Lord Grantham is EXTREMELY lenient. Back then, there weren't renter protection laws nor rent control ordnances. If you were late, you'd likely be homeless within a few minutes if you didn't pay. Don't let this show fool you. This was not normal and landlords were mostly ruthless because the law allowed them to be. Maybe you'd have a bit more time if you were a lifelong tenant farmer, but if you were renting an apartment in London? There is no way a landlord would tolerate late rent.

    • @jayalexander6798

      Uhm. It's ONLY because Robert is a very decent man. It was anything but a norm. It was really really bad then.

    • @florbfnarb7099
      @florbfnarb7099 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Different situation. The tenant farmer isn't just a farmer; they're a business partner. The same is the case with rental properties in modern times. You don't think that if a grocery store gets a little behind on a rent check that the property owner starts foreclosure immediately? Only if it becomes apparent that the partnership is no longer economically feasible would they evict.

      In that time they were overhauling the estate and since his father had been behind in rent they had to close him out it’s logical economical business. But Robert believed in the traditions and the family on the land that lived there and had faith this family would not let him down. And they didn’t. Not even when Edith messed it up worth marigold they took her secret in thought I wrecked them
