No Prep to Dirt Drags!! | Building an Offroad RC Drag Truck!

  • Since I picked up the Associated DR10M I've had the old SC5M based chassis sitting aside, trying to decide what to do with it. I played around with some crazy wild ideas including throwing some 2.6" monster truck tires on it...
    But as you might've seen in some of my bashing videos, we have a good bit of room in headlands and fields around here that could be really fun for some offroad drag racing of sorts.
    To turn this old no prep car into an offroad drag racing machine, the first things to do is setup the suspension and get some wheels and tires on it.
    This is going to be a fun build and I already know it'll be a challenge to drive on the dirt so make sure to follow along for more build videos in the coming weeks!!

    Very nice setup. I'm doing something similar with my DR10 and it's really adding up on parts. I really like the body you picked out. Cant wait to see this car in action. The 2wd cars are so much fun to modify and drive.

    I'd stick with body clips. I don't see magnets holding all that well. I'd also suggest u install a nice long smooth bottomed wheely bar and u probably will need to add some weight in the front. One or the other , or both. U could use the proline screw on body post, but it sux when u lose one. They do work good though.. gl

    • @FullThrottleRC
      @FullThrottleRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been thinking of maybe trying velcro instead so I could have a no body clip look. As for the wheelie bar, I'm not sure if I'm going to run one. I think it'll be fun to try to control and drive without one. Definitely some weight going up front though. this will need to be 50/50 front to rear on weight or better for sure.

    • @modzilla74
      @modzilla74 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FullThrottleRC if u ever get that ride into serious sand. U will find out how good a wheely bar is to have. Sure u can feather the throttle , but I predict that ur gonna wanna go faster than that will allow. I run my rcs at the beach more than any other place and these are the things I have found work best. And with u shortening the chassis , it's gonna be even more pronounced.. BUT, if ur running on a hard packed surface, u may be ok.

    Cut the fenders off and cut the rear wheel well bigger so the back sits level and set the front down and let shocks sit through 2 cutouts on each side of the hood

    how do you think a no prep body would fit a 2wd slash with traxxas bf goodrich rally tires? im considering using the 1980 malibu for a vintage rwd rally/hill climb build but plan on running it with a full size rally tire and little ground clearance and travel? ive never actually seen one in person. THANKS! WILL SUBSCRIBE!

    • @FullThrottleRC
      @FullThrottleRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those tires should be roughly the same size as a standard SC style drag slick. Maybe a little taller with the tread pattern but it should fit under the body. There may be rubbing though, I still have rubbing with my slicks. But they should still fit.

  • @mattster197

    Great videos. Do you think there is any merit to running a rear sway bar in drag racing?

    • @FullThrottleRC
      @FullThrottleRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! My DR10M has a rear sway bar and this one had one as well when I ran it as my no prep car. I've removed it for now for the build but it'll likely go back on when I start running.

      I'm actually liking the short wheelbase the more I look at it and work on it. I know it won't be as good for performance but it looks sweet.

  • @joshherrman3201
    @joshherrman3201 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen a few ppl taking there old nprc cars and doing sand drags with them. Why did you not leave the ride height the same and put the paddle tires on? Just wondering? I have a old car I've been thinking about doing g the same with.

    • @FullThrottleRC
      @FullThrottleRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to have more of a long travel suspension setup. I'll use it as a "sand" drag build in a way but I also want to run it as a sort of dune buggy, hitting rough terrain and jumps and such. I wasn't really sure how to get the long travel I wanted without the ride height raising

    • @joshherrman3201
      @joshherrman3201 ปีที่แล้ว

      @FullThrottleRC that makes sense. Like I said I have a old car and the sand/mud drags looks like a blast.

  • @ONEFUNFONE
    @ONEFUNFONE ปีที่แล้ว

    I would of kept the longer wheelbase, no bumper magnet mounts and as close to original look as possible. Kinda had a gasser feel with the longer wheelbase and nose up attitude.

    • @FullThrottleRC
      @FullThrottleRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it'll still have a gasser feel to it. But I think I'm wanting it to be more of an off road truck, sort of the sand dune racer look. I might play around with the no bumper look though. We'll see.

    Hey man I know this video is super old but I’m getting a dr10 and it has no wheels what size front wheels do you use 😅I’m not worried about the backs ima get some slash paddles on there

    • @FullThrottleRC
      @FullThrottleRC  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a dirt drag build so you could run a bunch of different things if that's what you're going for too. I'm using 2.2 wheels up front, the standard buggy size I believe that you typically see on drag cars. And then I actually put a set of 2.2 truck tires on them to give them sort of a sand dune tire look
