    Your videos give me some sort of strange nostalgia for the game. They make me want to climb into my ship, strap into my seat, and appreciate the surroundings of the bridge before punching the boost and screaming out of the mailslot. After watching these, I bought, outfitted, and engineered a Krait Phantom to fly out to the galactic core. I look forward to the next episode.

    Another amazing video! The Orca is my favourite ship for doing stupid PvP fights, as with 2 packhounds and a reverb cascade torpedo it can actually do some heavy hitting, plus you just know the priceless expression on someone's face when they are smashed to pieces and get their modules shredded - by a cruise ship.

      @operatorchakkoty4257 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man now I can't help but imagine a bunch of pirate boats encircling a Concordia sized cruise liner, all sparkling white, tinted glass and luxury...only for the cruise liner to open up two huge, double-barrel gun turrets and obliterating them only to continue it's evening program like nothing happened.

    We bought the Orca, built it out, built a pillow fort spaceship in our living room, and flew from the bubble to Sag A* last Sunday because of this video. We’d never gone more than 1.6k LY before.
    Excellent channel, excellent review, and a wonderful exploration ship. We traveled in luxury, immune to worry or heat damage with room for all the niceties.

      The Pilot it was super fun! We watched your Krait Mk 2 and orca videos to pick our ship. 60k LY in 11 hours was intense! But your videos talking about experiencing the galaxy were super true, we loved seeing the stars change as we jumped and then the neutron highway home was stressful but fun.

    An exploration build Orca with a single passenger cabin dropped in makes an excellent choice for long range passenger missions (which are really just excuses to go exploring, knowing there's an extra payoff and eye candy at the destination). It's a fun ship. Great video as always!

    • @holonaut
      @holonaut ปีที่แล้ว

      FD knew what they were doing. Ramming is how Orcas kill things irl too and they are extremely fast and manoeuverable for their weight (6 tons). Dolphins are the best ramming ship in the small ship category. They can even ram medium sized ships to death. Given that ramming can obliterate a hull faster than any other weapon, both are assassin ships in disguise

      @animanera89 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, been mining with a python, but I've been theorycrafting on building a mining orca just for shit and giggles... And by looking on sites like coriolis turned out that it is actually viable. It has more room for the stuff you need and twice the cargo you can put on the python. I'm gonna do it!

    • @buffland5188
      @buffland5188 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Made a Orca deep core miner... it has a small cargo but it has good maneuverability and jump range

  • @SerLagsalot
    @SerLagsalot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought an Orca about 2 weeks ago.
    One week ago I took on my first ever long-distance passenger jobs. 3 in all, starting from Newholm Station in Sothis; One to "the top of the galaxy", and two further north beyond the core.
    It took 5 days of 6-10 hour shifts just jumping to get to the first destination. ... I had to take a detour to Colonia which extended the trip by 2 days and over 9k LY. Because I forgot to install AFMUs before leaving the Bubble. .... Don't tell my passengers.
    One day took me to the last two destinations, and then all the way to one jump Sagittarius A. I shared that view with a friend this morning. It was my first time seeing Sagittarius. Or any black hole even.
    I think from this trip, I will cherish my Orca. First time I got more than 5k out of the Bubble. First time I saw space caltrops, visited Colonia, went inside a nebula... It's been a huge amount of time just jumping and plotting, and it'll probably be another 3-4 days just jumping back home... but it's given me a lot of memories no other ship I've flown has.

    I'm doing an exploration trip in one of these. I like the dim flight deck compared to the Krait Phantom, it's just as maneuverable with a tiny bit less jump range. Plus I get to head canon that everyone onboard is a hell of a lot more comfy than on a Phantom.

    Great review! I personally love the Orca for exploration. Tried both the Asp and Phantom (great ships!) but they didn't quite do it for me. I think it's the relatively cramped cockpits. Anyway, switched to the Orca and it was love. Just a beautiful view out of the cockpit. Reminds me of the massive view screens from star trek. Currently am setup with exactly 60.01ly jump range with room for 8 tons of cargo, and it truly feels like I'm taking an expeditionary crew out into space, on some 5-year mission. Love it!!

    The "Orca" is for want of a better comparison, a slicked out Mercedes sliding among the stars at literally breakneck speeds. She's sleek, fast and maneuverable. So named, she's a fast fish in the waters of space. This little ship can be a very fun little ship to fly when it concerns exploring the Galaxy. And she does it in style. She doesn't stand up to much a fight when it comes to combat as she has only two hardpoints so don't go getting into a fight with this little ship. She's got minimal shielding and little if no armor plating that could stand up to many direct strikes. But she makes an ideal passenger ship if you're looking to ferry passengers around the galaxy or rescue civilians from dangerous situations. So she has a lot of room on her. The luxury liner of the stars.

      Agreed. It should be a medium ship. But I still think the Orca is the better Exploration ship. Slots for everything, and a better range than the Dolphin.

    It's by far my favourite ship in the game, and I use it exclusively for exploration. For what it's worth, I can fit everything I want for exploration, plus two cabins, and still get >60 ly jump range... :D

      Impossible. If it was deisned by the Germans the engine would be breaking down every jump and the computer would be falsifying it's emissions.

    Four years later...5000 hull, 630m/s boost, 2 modified shard cannons and a large turreted thermal vent beam, and the largest hardpoint of the ship itself= $15 Billion in Thargoid bonds. Because its silly fun

    Well, what’s stopping you from fitting a one person luxury cabin and using that as your personal quarters while exploring? Afterall, who’s going to stop you?

    I hope Frontier has plans to add explorable and functional ship interiors after releasing Odyssey. Their road map so far seems to be mirroring, or at least resembling that of competitor games of the same genre, but they have the advantage of putting such content into an already fully playable game. The world of new content that ship interior content would add, is huge. Especially when so many ships and mission types feel so empty and unfulfilling in their current state. Military Drop Ships that literally drop nothing, except 'The Ball'. Cruiseliners with next to zero cruiseliner functionality. Passenger missions might be more fun if part of your job dealt with the business/customer side of things, instead of only having the options to either make out of the way pit stops, or stopping by a station because a passenger wants to buy some food. It's a cruiseliner! Why the hell aren't WE serving food? I've been on cruise ships. You can't ask the captain to stop at a port because you want a taco, nor pay less because they refuse.
    Passenger missions need a complete rework. Base mission pay, b/c the passengers should buy the ticket before boarding. Then add things to do on the trip that can affect passenger gratuity. Use a module to add a certain number of amenities, based on module size. Hire and edit crew functions, etc. Everything Elite could be, it's only about 10% of that. At least let me use the damn coffee pot on the bridge. Why is it even there?
