    The video was made 5 1/2 years ago。Things have changed. There is actually a subway in Taichung now. There are apps that give you instant real time bus schedules, they tell you how long does it take for the next bus to arrive, most of people stay in line even older people.

    The traffic in Taiwan can be chaotic and crowded, BUT the big thing that makes me actually enjoy driving here more than the US is that people are not aggressive. Nobody cares if you get in front of them. People won't try to race you. You don't see anyone screaming and road-raging. It's all pretty chill.

    Every time I travel around Asia i need to remind myself to look all directions at all times. And that I need to look the opposite way crossing the road compared to here in Australia, out roads are like England and HK

      Sean had to do the same when he went to Hong Kong haha! Crossing the street can be a dangerous game, depending on what country your're from and what country you're in lol.

    Thanks for the great info on Taiwan. We are taking a vacation trip to Taipei this month and the Wife and I are super excited. I have been marathoning TH-cam videos and I have to give props to Prozzie for the link to you guys! I subscribed to your channel and hope you are doing good in your new life in Taiwan. Have you guys been to Taipei? I have not watched all of your videos yet.

      Thank you and we're glad to have you! We have certainly been to Taipei, but haven't made many videos up there yet. As far as your vacation goes, get ready to eat! Make sure you hit all the night markets you can, go to Taipei 101, hit Din Tai Fung, and check out the Ximending area.

    That's probably the one detraction about Taiwan (which affects many other Asian cities): the crazy traffic. I would say though that when I was in Taipei that I felt that people weren't necessarily rude though - just the sheer crushing volume of mopeds swirling around the cars made me feel like I would be ultra nervous about driving there. Didn't know that about the old folks, haha!! Nice to have some perks as a senior!

    I do have questions for you. It's nothing to do with the video. Just want you guys' suggestions. I live in Los Angeles and haven't go back to Taiwan for over 5 years. I'm planning to visit Taiwan next month (May 2023). Do you know what the popular gifts that I should buy (from LA) for my family, friends, and relatives in Taiwan? Any suggestions will be appreciated? Thanks a lot! - Christina

    I have a class C driver's license, but not a license to ride a motorcycle or scooter. Would it still be possible to rent or buy a scooter or motorcycle in Taiwan? If not, how difficult would it be to earn a license?

    Nice video! You left me a bit puzzled about old people in Asian culture. I certainly understand respecting your elders, but is age an excuse for bad behavior?

    • @Asiabrew
      @Asiabrew  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you! From a western perspective, I (Sean) totally agree with you. However, our advice on this subject is really targeted at foreigners traveling or moving to Asia. It's just kind of how things are in Taiwan (and Korea) and it's really not a foreigners place to come over here and start applying western ideas of politeness. That said, depending on the situation and the level of disrespect that is going on, Vicky has no problem with calling someone out. Also, at least here in Taiwan, I often see salesclerks that won't help an old person who has cut in line until they've helped the appropriate person first. But like I said, it all depends on the situation. Are they screaming on their cellphone on the subway? Just move to another car. Did they spit on the ground right next to you or cough in your face (which happens a lot)? By all means, express your feelings of disgust. And just for the record, not ALL old people here are rude and disrespectful...there's just a LARGE generational gap between what the younger and older generations find respectful, polite, and appropriate, as far as behavior is concerned.
