I can’t believe i was made a fool all these years
I saw it after I think my 2nd game? Possibly my first. I saw the computer had collected so much more resources than me, even though I crushed him almost completely halfway through the game where he had nothing left. I knew there was funny business. Then I gave him just one citizen and he had a huge military by time i checked on him a couple minutes into the game and spent way more wood than would be possible!
@@SolidNate99All RTS games AI enemy cheat, they always have infinite resources and their build times are upped like crazy.

I discovered that once I created a match with 0 resources, gave the ai 1 citizen and the mf started building barracks out of nothing...
Yeah I'm kind of the same way, and value having the same set of rules. It's all sorts of frustrating for me when the developers just have an AI outright cheat to make it challenging rather than actually improve the programming.
If I recall the justification for the AI being developed this way was to ensure it was a challenge no matter the player's skill level, but yeah that seems lazy to me since that's the whole point of having difficulty levels
@@pxlpedia a lot of the shortcomings of this game screams time/money restraints. I think their justification for the AI was an afterthought, and really they just didn't have the resources to implement something good. Non-cheating AI is awful because it's not intelligent enough to use its resources wisely

@@pxlpedia trying my luck: maybe, you know the bug, when after having played an hour or two, AI's peasants just start moving off towards enemy's settlement and eventually all get shot dead? I always play created scenario in test mode - is this the reason? Or what should I do?
@@ever-modern nope it is an actual bug where they go off to the other side of the map and just run out of resources. They also have trouble aging up and can't upgrade settlements in the absence of an existing Town or City Center. Honestly I can see having the AI cheat as being a way to prevent these bugs
Still play this game, never realized how many hours went into just 1 match.
I tried that and my AI oponent had no citizens any more after a few hours in a gigantic world. I did only some defence against a few of his attaks, no realy big attak at that time. So it seeems to me, that cheating for the AI is essential to survive.
I use the scenario editor the same way, as it was presentes here to change the oponent and to change the limit of units. This works quite well for me.
The ai always has tons of guys wondering around dying and they will spend every penny they have to have tons of guys wondering the map. Because of this they have to cheat or they will go broke from wondering
yea i thought it would be fun to put some wolves in there, they didnt last long. i restarted becouse i got actually scared of the wolves. they are no joke. @@jamesclouse9947
this can actually cause a bug where the AI opponents can't age up or progress in any way or where they can't create nor upgrade to Town/City Centers in the absence of one. They stop gathering resources after a while and kill their own remaining citizens. That's not even touching on their suicidal "mass exodus" problems in large maps where they send all their citizens over to the other side of the map at the beginning of a game to gather over there without even building a settlement. And you don't need to exit the game to do this. just load a random, multiplayer or campain map and save it. Go back to menu. Immediately test run a basic scen edit. Load the saved game and save it again through test run. close the test run and load the new save in editor and edit as you like
The problem is I don't mind the AI cheating to not break.
But the idea that they always have the resources to follow up on age progression is a bit much.
In one skirmish I did, I managed to capture the middle quite quickly and hold it, meaning that the AI was on limited resources, rather than risk losing everything by attacking, I decided to boom from there but the AI just kept up, produced 3 times the unit count of my advanced units whilst barely having any resource fields.
I miss this game so much. Think I last played with some buddies back in 2018
If I remember correctly you don't need to close the game after you saved the random map, you can just go in scenario, and load it there, and then save it as a scenario. I don't remember if it shows all the stats at the end using this way tho.
But, i remember, you can even cheat on campaigns using this method
that's how I do it and I always do as I like to adjust the map to be more realistic and better for multiple team setups using the full 16 player format that you can only get in scen edit but in hard difficulty and slow settings
Oh yes I remember putting some Nano Age facions into the medieval campains!
Iirc you can do the same method to ‘spice up’ campaigns in the same way. But sometimes moving a saved campaign game to the Editor and back might cause issues.
The problem is that when the AI doesn't cheat, the game is too easy. The AI doesn't know how to play without cheats.

Is it just not possible to turn on a "reveal map" setting? So the map just isnt black form start.
The game is also at normal pace, cant i make it faster?
Well you can use cheat codes to reveal the map, but I don't think that feature is automatically available. I might be wrong though not sure
ASUS DRIVERS is the code to reveal the map and yes in settings you can put it up to fast.
I don't understand if this makes the ai fair only related to the map created or for every map
Does that also work in Multiplayer? Cause my friend and I love to play Skirmishes together against the AI.

@@wilhelmschottehultkrantz Offical servers? No. If you use a direct connection or NeoEE, yeah you can still play MP

yup, you can use a similar method for multiplayer matches but your friends have to be in the initial save

i knew ai had some unfair advantage, but unlimited resources?
I never knew the AI cheated. I normally play on normal and end up doing pretty well. Or I turn the difficulty to hard, add the max ai’s and watch them all attack each other while I use cheats to defend against all of them.

Is there a way to know if it actually worked?
In a custom game the checkbox will be unticked, and in a random map the AI's behavior will change pretty drastically so it should be noticeable

Not at all they don't micro their economy and they send mass villagers to die without cheats they bankrupt their economy

No, when you play scenario, the map will be black, you can use a cheat code to reveal it
I only play on the easy difficulty, the AI still cheats, but they are kind of less agressive.
Easy is ok even with cheating computer because like you say they are not agressive they don't attack so fast like in hard. But Medium is even very hard with cheating computers but i have beaten the Computers in Medium but I can't beat the Computer in hard (Standard with Cheating). They are so fast they are attacking in 5 minutes and in 10Minutes with a ARmy and in 15-20 min with massive amounts of units that is impossible to produce as human player

I'm think that will break the AI. Also, they are not so difficult and pretty stupid. They are just spamming their hundreds of units to your towers and loosing them.
Also sometimes they are just not even building the airplanes and anything, even on medium difficulty.
Why would you want to do that?

@@pxlpedia hmm. And how do the AI players change on easy an hard difficulties? Any idea?
As far as I know AI difficulty only affects how aggressively/fast the AI plays (so on Easy will tech up and generally play slower, and increases with the difficulty setting)

I have never won a fuxken game against AI
It's because they don't actually need resources when cheating is on. That compounded by the fact that they can micromanage every unit they control. If you upgrade an epoch they'll always upgrade their epoch to match it 1-5 minutes later so you can never even get a tech advantage over them when cheating is enabled.
Here's the easy way to win. Build like 20 barracks and just spawn the hell out of long swords. Once you get like 100 long swords, just crush. He can't handle massive amounts of infantry. I've only lost 1 game of the 8 I have played since I bought the game this week.
